Brooks and Moses in defence.

Just a quick question about our halves in defence. When our boys are defending, both Brooks and Moses are defending two in from the sideline, directly opposite the opposition second rowers, who would easily have a min. of 20kg advantage of these two. Their defence is suspect at the best of times, why are they being placed in these specific positions and not one in from the sideline against a centre and let Lawrence and Simona take care of the bigger bodies?

I also ask why not try to do what we did with Benji? Stick Brooks on the wing during the first four tackles and put Richards at centre in defence? It has worked before can't see why it won't now?

Never worked when they put Benji out there to my recollection.

They need some help once they've stopped the runner. They don't need putting in a cacoon.

Brooks and Moses are taking over our forum threads, do we have any new topics to go around?
Any meaningless juicy gossip to captivate us till game day?

Maybe the Mods can block anymore of these for a little while with some auto delete rules..

Easy now you lot that might have thought i was serious. It was all in light humor.. Half strength middies

love the Wests Tigers, lucky you put in that last line….you were about to cop a serve....

Seriously,Brooks and Moses both have to keep working hard on their defence, more Brooks than Moses...solid defence will win them the games....

OP does make a good point.

I suspect the plan is that with a decent defensive centre outside, and defensive forward inside, the half is protected. If you move them out to centres, there is a lot of 1:1 tackling required - line breaks out here are deadly. Also the structure is slightly different, wingers and centres communicating for how to hold their shape, read inside passes etc.

That was Benji's problem - 3 in he was working his dodgy shoulders on big dudes, 2 in he was arm-grabbing at fast and evasive runners.

But I don't see why Brooks or Moses couldn't be fast enough to pick up opposition centres; it would be more about being beaten out wide, where there is less cover.

In the centres they'll get trampled by fullbacks, wingers and centres. Wighton easily swatted Brooks away for a try on the weekend.

Moses has barely missed a tackle all year. His defense is fine.

Brooks needs to work on his defense. until the weekend he hasnt been missing badly, bouncing off a few, which not the worse. He missed 2 shockers on the weekend. Cant have them.

Has any one else notice Moses is on the wing a lot just like Marshall was ..what does that tell you. If you have to protect players like that they do not deserve to be playing NRL.

Thurston 24
Johnson 22
Wallace 21

Some pretty handy halves in that list. The fact is most halves are smaller and therefore most teams will run big guys at them. It's about protecting the halves so they aren't as much of a target.

P.S. I do concede Brooks is a terrible defender anyway…

Just a quick question don't we have the same defensive coach as last year??? This could explain a lot.
