Brooks and Tedesco Origin Future - Predictions

I was having a chat to a mate of mine last night and we were discussing the future of the NSW origin team and i quickly realised that some of our future stars aren't the certainties we thought they were to play origin football, well not in the next few years anyway.

Brooks is probably a moral to be the halfback within the next 2-3 years, especially when you consider the lack of good dominant halves going around in NSW and the potential this kid has to develop his game in the coming seasons.

However, Teddy's future selection is quite interesting when you consider Jarred Hayne is only 26 and is likely to be the fullback for at least the next 4-5 years. Josh Dugan is even younger and is quite obviously well liked by the NSW power brokers, hence the reshuffle into the centres for this game. Combine that with other up and coming fullbacks like Mat Moylan and even Jake Mamo and selection for Teddy isn't anywhere near guaranteed despite his potential to be in the top 2-3 fullbacks in the game within the next 2 seasons.

We may also see other tiger cubs develop into origin players in the future with the likes of Curtis Sironen, David Nofoaluma and even Mitchell Moses likely to push for spots in the future (provided they reach the potential they displayed in the lower grades and/or their brief FG careers to date).

so during this boring and quiet bye weekend, i was hoping to see how you guys and girls see the future NSW Origin team looking in the next 2-5 years ? which tiger cubs do you think will reach these rep honours and how will they get there ?
 
Teddy was quite good at centre in the RLWC for italy, he could slot in there I reckon. Ball playing is solid, as is his defence.

Dont see a neccessity for duges to play FB after Hayne is retired though. So I would suspect (on this trajectory) that teddy slots into fullback after that.
 
None of them are shoe-ins, not even Brooks, not as long as politics exists. Doesn't matter how good you are, you have to overcome the political aspect thats kept so many deserving players out over the yrs, none more so than when Robbie Farah got punted for Michael Ennis. If Ennis constantly being selected over Farah for so long wasn't politics then Lee Harvey Oswald was just a lone nut. It remains to be seen how guys like Brooks and Tedesco will go when the political games come into play.

I agree with that 100% ! however unlike the whole farah situation i think that Brooks and Tedesco will not be victims of stupidity and will be chosen or not chosen based on form and merit rather than last name and cultural background.. everyone is on teddy and brooks' bandwagon and they have been previously chosen to play in the U20s origin and city-country clashes with a clear vision for the future. Politics aside, where do you see Tedesco and Brooks in the grand scheme of things in the near future ?
 
I think you will certainly see Woods continue to be in there. Sirro is also a very strong possibility to become an origin player. Whether he'll Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon his old man in origin greatness, I'm not sure - he has the potential. In regards to Tedesco, I have to agree with you. Unless there are injuries in the aforementioned players, he may be another one of those great players that just won't get a run.

As for young Brooks, it's early days yet and unless there is some injuries or form really drops, I think Laurie will stick with his current halves pairing. Brooks has appeared to be a big game player. And thrives on the pressure. The other thing helping his cause is his future halves pairing of Moses. It's become apparent that Laurie likes club combinations. Roosters Halves, Dogs halves, then there's the future of possibly tigers halves.

Say they get to have a run in the next 2-3 years at origin. Would this be enough to possibly include Tedesco as part of that spine. It puts some good pressure and selectors alike. Shame Robbie only has another 2 years I say in origin. We could be the NSW team of the 80s, made from a good pack of tigers.

Interesting times ahead. Especially for the Blues.
 
This whole 2014 NSW squad now has the tag of being the ones who ended QLD's 8 year run. That's going to add serious weight to their incumbency. Hodkinson and Reynolds in particular came into the 2014 series having played about 10 minutes of origin football between them, and I think the 6 and 7 spots are theirs to lose. It's going to take some poor club form or injury for a spot to open up in the halves now.

Which is a shame because I think Brooks will have a strong case for rep selection over the next few years, but I think he may have to wait a while. He'll probably get a consolation prize Kangaroos jersey on some pointless PNG tour before he gets a sniff of Origin. Unless we lose another couple of origin series and start swapping players in panic.

There's no doubting that James Tedesco is already one of the best fullbacks going around, and is only going to improve. The problem for James is that Daley finally saw the light and let Jarryd Hayne play fullback. Even if Hayne were injured, Josh Dugan would probably move back into the number 1\. Whilst it might be tempting for NSW to play Tedesco out of position just to get him into the backline, you'd have Mansour in there first should a wing spot open up, and I don't see James Tedesco playing centre at Origin level.

I honestly can't comment on Mitchell Moses as he is yet to play at NRL level. A talented kid can look good against other kids, or against a reserve grade defence in NSW cup. Until we see some first grade opposition running at him, we have no idea how good he's going to be. If Mitch is everything we're led to believe then we've got a serious shot at a premiership in the next couple of years, but it's too early to declare him a future origin star.

I'd like to say Nofolauma was in with a shot, but he's barely fit for first grade as it stands. Looks to be carrying an injury, so the shortest winger in the comp is now also the slowest. It must be very frustrating for Simona when he gets that rare quality ball in space, and his winger can't keep up. Nofolauma is a long way off competing with the likes of Brett Morris or Josh Mansour for rep spots, and it's only Korobeite's inability to catch a ball or make a tackle that's keeping him in first grade. I hope he just needs the right physio session to regain some speed soonish.

I'd love to see Simona develop into a rep contender if he is still eligible for NSW after being named in both the NZ and Samoan sides. He's a much cleverer centre than Jennings for mine. Jennings has a beautiful line break and is damn near impossible to catch once he gets away, but he lacks awareness of his support players, or the vision to set them up. As well as being nearly as quick as Jennings, Simona has a much better offload, and a cheeky chip and chase in the kit. I think he could develop into something special. It's a shame he's stuck running off Anasta, with a slow (injured?) Nofolauma on his outside.
 
I am happy for Farah and Woods to be our only SOO reps for a few years yet.

Most of the players mentioned here are yet to play 50 FG games yet

Let them develop and mature.
 
I think they have earmarked all of Brooks, Siro and Tedesco as future rep players and will want to pick them if they are playing well.
That said nothing is certain in footy., people thit players will keep playing good football forever, it rarely works that way.
 
Look if Hayne maintains his current form Tedesco may have to wait for a few years yet

Until we see Brooks play both sides of the ruck I honestly can't even contemplate that call
 
The current halves still didn't really look like they had points in them. If Brooks starts to prove himself capable of Lockyer like winning plays in the last few minutes of big games, it's unlikely that even politics would keep him out.
 
I hate Jennings, I think he is the Shearer of the NRL, he is a try scab, sure he is in the right place at the right time, but I otherwise thought he was generally a fine finnisher of others work. Last night that scab played like I have never seen him before, he was a beast. In some ways it makes me think what pansy he must be to skirt that sort of game throughout his career, week to week. I never understood the hype. I would be angry knowing he had that in him compared to the weak sauce he gives week to week.

I dont think Simona has that in him… as in I think Simona peaks often (if he got ball), but doesnt have that extreme step up in him... if he does, and we havent seen the unleashed Simona, god help me, even if he rips us a new one for a kiwi side, it would be a sight to behold.
 
Bit harsh on Rowdy Shearer BnW , always lifted for SOO and was a freakish player

They bloke could play and by all reports rings Mal up a week before every SOO series starts and says he is ready to go
 
This blues side won't last longer than next year IMO.

They've peaked. I don't think they can get any better. I think Daley will start to base his team around hayne, woods, Boyd and possibly hodko.

hahaha… I meant Alan Shearer of Newcastle/Blackburn/Southampton EPL fame...

i will give Rowdy his dues... there are few Qld'ers I hate, Hancock and your young fellas Tate spring to mind, but even I took no joy in Tate going out like that...

Is it too soon to blood Luke Brooks in the Origin Game 3 dead rubber.
The Blues and the Maroons have the ideal opportunity to blood future Origin players in the Game 3 dead rubber to be played in Brisbane on July 9.
Will NSW and Queensland select their strongest possible team or will they take this opportunity to experiment?
Will the powerful Origin brand be cheapened if the best players are not in?
Cooper Cronk has indicated he will be available after an arm fracture in Game 1, but he may have second thoughts now that the series is done and dusted, despite the $30,000 match fee.The Storm’s Will Chambers is a certain replacement for the unlucky Brent Tate, who sadly may have played his last game. Jacob Lillyman will likely start for Matt Scott, who has a suspected fractured cheekbone. Although Ben Hunt trained all week with the Maroons and was the shadow player for Cheery-Evans, the likely utility is Anthony Milford, who is a genuine Origin player and heads the Billy Slater succession plan.
Origin 3 would be a perfect chance to see how Anthony Milford handles the pressure, but who is going to tell Billy Slater to take a rest and hand his number 1 jersey and his $30,000 to another player? Slater and his skipper Cam Smith just turned 31 on Wednesday, and while they still have plenty of Origins in them, the long-term benefit to the team would be served best if Rooster Jake Friend was given a run with Milford.
There is no doubt that the future of the Maroons will rest squarely on Daly Cherry-Evans and the selectors and coach Mal Meninga will never get a better opportunity to hone a winning spine combination with Milford and Friend all in the same side.
For the Blues, Laurie Daley will likely have to make a call on Will Hopoate if Josh Morris is available, or maybe young Daniel Tupou will be rested. Daley also can test gun wingers Jorge Taufua or Josh Mansour.
The Blues now have Paul Gallen aged 32, while Anthony Watmough, Ryan Hoffman, Luke Lewis and Beau Scott all over 30\. Game 3 is the perfect opportunity to test Josh Jackson and Wade Graham under Origin conditions. Boyd Cordner could also be available.
Blues halfback in waiting Luke Brooks will have to postpone his debut a little longer after Trent Hodkinson scored the series-winning try in Game 2, and Brooks’ Wests Tigers teammate James Tedesco appears to have an even longer wait as NSW have an abundance of class fullbacks. The Blues best player, Jarryd Hayne, is only 26, and Josh Dugan (24) and Brett Stewart are also in front of Tedesco.
Trent Hodkinson’s try rubber stamped him a certain starter for 2015, simultaneously snuffing out any chance Mitch Pearce had of reclaiming his old position. ‘Hodko’ may not be the best halfback in NSW but he has a combination with Josh Reynolds and if he was to be replaced, the Blues would need to find another goal kicker.
The players all say Origin 3 is important to them. If they are a Blue they want to go through the series undefeated, and if they are a Maroon then they want to avoid a whitewash. They are all keen to play and risk injury for their state over their loyalty to their clubs. I wonder how many would have that mindset if the big prize money was not on offer.
Both squads have many players over 30 but normally the blooding of future players is not part of the Origin stage.
Why not? The series is over.
No player would willingly stand down, even if carrying an injury, it would have to be a decision from the selectors and the two coaches, but they are also unlikely to rock the boat.
Many would agree it is a logical step to build some new combinations in this nothing game, but the reality is it will not happen.
 
One series loss where we fail to score more than 5 tries in the entire 3 games will change everything.

The defensive culture and the heart NSW will continue to display will mean selectors feel comfortable in maintaining that while taking risks with the attacking side of things. So that will mean their will be a push for "more points", resulting in Teddy to fullback, Hayne to 6 and Brooks to 7.

Thats a prediction
 
Why not play teddy or brooksie off the bench as a utility player? teams do that for origin all the time, dont see the harm in doing it for a dead rubber.
 
Only one certainty came out of this origin series, and that is barring injury, Pearce will never wear the Blues #7 again.
 
All players from the first 2 games deserve the chance to play in game 3 IMO before any changes are made. It's a chance for a whitewash, and the gladiators from Origin 1 and 2 should go the distance.
