Brooks Bashers Bore Me

When you argue with flat earthers do you offer any facts or evidence? Or do you just state your opinion thousands of times and get upset when that does not change their mind?
If 9 years of poor play isn’t evidence enough for you then nothing will be.

But like flat earthers, it will never matter what proof is presented, they have their own ā€œopinionā€.

Don’t see the fuss around Toovey. Like Brooks, the evidence whether he’s any good lies in whether or not he’s employed. If Toovey was that good of a coach, surely another club would have picked him up.

Brooks has been one of the Tigers best players for 9 years. The evidence is 174 first grade games, being chased by other teams, large contract, Dally M halfback award, Numerous Kelly-Barnes medals, halfback statistics like try assists, trys, supports, running meters, receipts, defence.

He is very good at most parts of halfback play but is lacking in some areas, just like all current halfbacks. We need another person in the spine to cover those areas. Maybe Hastings at 6 is the answer or Api at 9.

The Brooks (and Madge) bashers have no answers, they just want change. There are many reasons that we are not making the finals, we should change the bad things and not the good things.

I'm not convinced Brooks is one of the best two halves in our team assuming everyone is fit. The idea that Brooks should remain in the team is though nothing at all like a flat earther argument.

Flat earthers and conspiracy theorists completely ignore science. The opinions of how good Brooks is or isn't are subjective opinions.

I wouldn't be dropping Brooks now. He isn't our problem. I'm not sure he is the long term solution though.

Someone may have responded but as a halfback he should be barking orders on what to be done and take control and blast them if they don’t listen . As halfback he is the genneral .

Look at Moses last night he blew up deluxe when he had whole set , set up for field goal and Mahoney went for glory play .
This imo is Brooks flaw. Not his bombs everyone complains about ( they should be complaining yo Madge as that would be his game plan otherwise he would hooked brooks long ago for doing those kicks )
I was at the Dogs game, last game of last season and Brooks was doing exactly that.

Barking orders like Moses does, gets you nowhere sometimes. My info is that Moses is an extremely unpopular member of that team. They arent semi successful because of him, they are semi successful in spite of him.

Back to Brook, it comes back to the same old issue others have raised here too. We do not have a leader to hold people to account. Someone like a Cronk, Cam Smith, Finucane, JWH, etc etc would not tolerate ignoring the halfback. They would lead by example. James Tamou was meant to be that guy and he has failed dismally. Although to prove that point, the first 10 minuutes vs the Warriors was Tamou's best run with us.....and the team responded. He needs to have been doing that every game since he got here.

No leaders, Brooks or otherwise.

Any one watch Cronk on nrl 360 tonight? They quizzed him on our game.... just to summarise basically Brooks does not have the football IQ to manage a game.. thats what a lot of people have been saying on the forum..
And thats why we are in the position we are, he is not doing him self or the team staying at 7....
Madge's downside is that he is not trying him in another position.i guess his hands are tied atm.

He's gonna play international footy tho...

Clear As day.
Good on Cronk for stating the obvious instead of the usual "I feel so sorry for this KID"

Also said it was Maddens side the player got binned on. Conveniently left out.

I basically agree with Cronk's analysis, but I'm only an outsider and I don't think he knows much about Brooks' play.

I believe that Cronk analyses the game like a bandwagon fan. His analysis boils down to the best teams are really good, the clubs at the top of the table are really well run and players are really good if the team is winning. I suppose it's hard to argue with those points but it feels like it's not so much based on analysis of the game rather than confidently asserting that winners are grinners.

His repeated argument that good players should not go to clubs like the tigers if they want to further their career is one such example. Cronk is the product of a successful club and his experiences don't include developing and turning a club around. So basically in his mind, what's bad must stay bad and what's good is definitely so. But this ignores many players like Matterson, Grant, Leulia, Tapau, Addo-Carr, Koriebate, Tedesco, Moses who earned big contracts elsewhere off the back of being at our club after either being developed by us or struggling at their previous club. Our club does develop players well, we just haven't had success.

Cronk also has no experience of players like Ben Kennedy at Manly, Andrew Johns at Newcastle, Benji Marshall at the Tigers who managed to transform a club and make them successful.

So Cronk basically has a very conservative and narrow view that doesn't include much appreciation of what good players look like on bad teams, or how players can influence and change a culture of a club because he had success on a platter his whole career. He was also a great player and contributed to that platter in a massive way, but if he'd started at a rubbish club, I think he'd have a bit more perspective.

In summary, I don't really care what he thinks, he's just a massive Roosters/Storm fanboy.

No he said Madden is still young and that Brooks should have owned it.
Correct. He did say that. But he also said that Montoya was playing on the left so attacking the right should have occurred more than twice out of nineteen plays. He gave the youngsters a free pass. On one occasion Brooks attacked there and Laurie dropped it. Another time Gildart ran across field and passed across Madden’s face. So madden had zero shots out of 19. But we’ll give him a free pass!

Really nicely put post, I tend to agree that Brooks has generally been good, I just feel that he is such a part of what has happened recently, and tends to be a big factor in when we go wrong on the field.

I just can't really think of many moments where he's been able to turn the momentum of a game with his play ala Benji Marshall, Tommy Turbo, Tedesco or even Mitchell Moses, and in many matches he tends to perform poorly or go missing at important moments.

This isn't analysis of the game, or stats, it's more a general vibe thing, so I appreciate what you're saying. But I just don't think he's strong enough to carry this team and I don't think that the club is strong enough to carry him.

He’s not as good as those players mentioned. But it should be noted three of them couldn’t get this side to the finals in their recent years here either. Bottom line, we need to improve the squad.

Cronk said footy smarts/iq lost us the game. They only went to the side the player got sent of twice.. hello, 1,9,6 and 7. Maguire not dumb enough to coach that, that was definitely on the spine.

Coming from Cooper Cronk who received the ball from Cameron Smith and gave it to Billy Slater, you see a difference?
