Brooks reflects on early season form

Set to play his first game at the ground he grew up at in 2015, Leichhardt Oval, Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has opened up on his form to start the year, saying that he still feels there’s plenty of improvements that come in his game.

The 2014 Dally M Rookie of the Year has picked up two tries and four try-assists in six games to give Wests Tigers a 3-3 start to 2015, but the 20-year-old isn’t content with his performances so far and is pushing for bigger and better things this week.

“I’ve been pretty happy with some of my performances so far this year, but I know I definitely haven’t been playing my best footy yet,” Brooks admitted.

“That’s something that I want to get to — consistently hitting my best every week.”

“There were a few areas in last week’s game that as a team we probably could have done better in, but there’s still lots of improvement across the board which is pleasing.

“We’re playing good footy in patches, but that’s something that we’ve got to work on.

“We’ve spoken a lot about consistency this week and ensuring we don’t drop off at all.

“The goal is to play that full 80-minute performance that we probably have only delivered in one other game this year, so if we can do that, we’ll be much stronger.”

Brooks, who led the league in missed tackles last year, said he was pleased with the improvements that Head Coach Jason Taylor has made in his and the team’s defensive game, but said he was keen to improve his attacking cohesion with the likes of Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco and Curtis Sironen even further this season.

“For me, there’s improvements to be made all over the park,” he said.

“I’ve been pretty happy with my defence up until last week — that wasn’t my best defensive game — and that’s something I’ve got to work on this week.

“In attack, it’s more just getting our combinations right and timing right.

“The structures are in place, but I think a lot of our timing has been a little bit off, and that’s sometimes the difference between a play or a move working and it falling apart.

“That’s something I’m looking to improve on this week and hopefully it helps us out.”

Yes true. But at the same time the 80 min game is an illusion. No team plays a perfect 80 mins any week. To me a realistic goal is minimising the damage when we aren't at our best and executing better during favourable periods of the game. Defence has improved a lot other than 2 20min periods against the Warriors and the Bulldogs. Execution has been off for most of the season other than a few good 20min patches.

happy with his performances ??? Brooks is rubbish. Sick of hearing that he is young. Well so is the trolley boy at Woolworths. Who cares about his age. He is not good enough for fIrst grade, whether he is 20 or 30\. another pretender that uses age as an excuse

To much grog tonight bro, hilaroius wanker..

not enough grog actually. And you aint my bro. Its piss ants like you that keep this club thinking they are great. Wests own this joint venture. Bowelmain can die. If Brooks aint good enough, so be it. Other clubs have halves that carve up the comp - and don't use age as an excuse. I would rather Jeff Robson, at least he is consistently a 5 out of 10

you are strange

That's actually not a bad point. But we're told it's gonna happen soon. Maybe this is the year to build before an assault next year. Time will tell. But right now, there's no other option as a half, so best suck it up.

More of an UN hilarious Wanker :crazy
Why don't you move on with your unfounded rants
I'd tell you to go elswhere but I'd feel sorry for any other team **or** sport for that matter.
Funny how you only come out at night.

Brooks will continue to improve as all of our young guns are at the moment.
Slow & Steady Wins the race.

Mad magpie, you havent got over the JV thing as most of us have….typically if Brooks had been a Maggies junior you would have been more patient....

I have been critical of his performances as well but I'm prepared to cut him some slack so he can develope into a topline half back...at least he can admit to not playing great games but neither have the other young guys......chill out a little ......

See mate you can't let go of the past, who cares if Wests "own this joint" and Balmain can die…..

We are the Wests Tigers and I don't care if Woolworths owned them,I would support them wholeheartedly as would my Magpie Brothers and sisters and my Balmain brothers and sisters, you see we stick together through good times and bad....you my friend live in the past and should really try and move on....
