Its the way the team is coached to play.
No line runners, no options.
Everything appears measured play.... bombs & no flare.

Last year he and garner was a combo we all were looking for this year, we haven’t seen it once.

Last year he would kick to ground, this year its all bombs.

Last year quick play the ball and he gets the ball, this year its to another forward or Benji.

Garner is too busy this year trying to cover Benji missed tackles than compliment brooks.

We have several problems in our forwards but for me, Garner is a weak link in the starting pack.

Well the players want him there so I heard.
He does miss some tackles but I winder trying to cover for Benji is detrimental to his game?

Here’s a clue.
Put him in any of the current NRL top six teams .... and you would want him back.

He wouldn’t make any top 6 side.

Brooks has had 10 try involvements this year, the person that throws the last pass is not always the one that made it possible.
He has created a lot of opportunities that have not been taken, the cross field kick last night for example, he created a 50/50 chance for LL and Mbye but they didn't manage to convert it.

Not enough threads on the subject..

Agreed he has had too many, but they have been emotional or reactionary ones. 'Brooks is rubbish!' 'Brooks is not a half' etc. Ultimately we learn nothing.

I would like to just analyse the stats and work out why.

Assists 16
Down to 1.

Running meters down 30.

Those stats represent a stunning decline.

Is it confidence? Madge's game plan? An injury we don't know about? Does not gel with the nines? He is being overcalled by others? There has to be some sort of explanation?

OK..but last night it was Brooks who dug in the line and got a quick play the ball for Liddle to score..then a pass out to Benji with width to throw a cut out to Nofoaluma ..so there are involvements in points we are scoring..it's ignored.

Even happy said last night he busted his arse trying

He def tries, no one can say he does not. He also genuinely loves the club, seems happy enough....but something has gone wrong. The statistical decline is dramatic.

He also ran for 150m last night..more than any forward in our team...

Yes, he runs well some weeks / others seems to run in circles.

Yes, his role seems to have changed.

That is part of what I am getting at.

But in the opp 20 he never looks like putting anyone over. For all the ball he has, one assist is very damming.

Excellent points.

He must be told to put up those (generally useless) high kicks as he had been doing them all season without any reward. So, either Madge is just sitting there passively and not responding or coaching him to fix it... or... Madge is the one instructing him to kick like that (seems the only logical answer as it happens week after week after week.

Why on earth are we discussing this crap again after a game in which he tried his heart out, running numerous times making plenty of metres, opened up try scoring opportunities and tried a chip which he was run off without receiving a penalty. All behind a forward pack that went okay for the first five minutes and apart from the contribution of Taylor, was mostly rolled over in the middle. If you don't like his bombs on the last tackle, take it up with the coach.

The other half that has been given the reins was the main issue, only going okay for the period when WT had nearly all the ball and even then was running his three-quarters out of space.

Why we continue to put up cross-field bombs to the flanks just absolutely defies belief. I reckon we would be lucky to have jagged a try off one of them 20 times in the last 10 years, our wingers have been horrendous at out-jumping their opposite for at least that long.
When one goes up you just know we ain't catching it, it would have to be one of the most glaring examples of blind stupidity I've seen on a footy field in decades. It's incredible.

Brooks is a good player but he has the football brains about the size of a peanut. Runs when he should pass, passes when he should run, tries a chip a chase when a defender is standing ready to catch the ball. Kicking game very ordinary most days. He needs someone telling him what and when to do things. A halves partner that will take control, that’s when Brooks plays his best.

Geez, what's gone wrong? He's finally been found out. Literally years hiding behind, the forward packs weak, being over called, potential year after year- always an excuse for ''next time' to lead the team, the team is mine to lead etc.

Get a proper halfback.- search the ESL if Madden isnt it. I'm not against Brooks being in the team, just I think after some 5 odd years surely we can say the waiting for Brooks to show his potential has come to an end?

Brooks went ok last night - plenty of them did. The reality is our cap is skewed in the wrong direction and shows with our performances. You can't expect to make a dent in the competition when your highest earners are your poorest performers. Until that changes we will have blokes trying hard to compete but won't match the better teams.
We tried last night and the blokes that put in should not have to continually shoulder the blame for those that are getting paid for jam.

My view is Garner is stretched, he acts like a middle forward for coverage & runs during the middle of the game and then has to over compensate for Benji.

LL has played apart in this

Last year Garner played next to Brooks all game & his work load was alot less = more effective.

If Benji runs around again we will have another year of this.

It is not a reaction to last night...it is the season itself.

Try assists 16...down to 1.

Running meters down 30.

Something has changed noticeably. Last night, he was pretty good.

He has never 'sounded' like a half when he is interviewed. So, some of that may be valid. Cronk, Pearce, Green, DCE, you hear them interviewed and they analyse the game like a coach.

His game knowledge does not seem overly high.

Brooks is a second fiddle player .. he is competent and a reliable NRL level player ... the club are kidding themselves if they think he is anything else . If the club can not bring in an experienced / demanding and leading partner he should be shown the door . This is the only option that I see his future at the club.

Exactly this.

He has BJ as a weapon and never passes the ball to him. He is deadset a pretender at the moment.
