Brooks

The elephant departed the room at the end of last season and this will allow Luke to really shine, not that he was going too badly for mine anyway.

I thought he was strong. More games like that and i will be a lot more keen to see him re-sign as opposed to seeing him as the sacrificial lamb that saves the other 3.

on the re-signing thing, i was thinking during last nights game that Brooks and Moses would be crazy to leave. I know Souths are poor, but the style we play could take these guys all the way.

Its been suggested that early results will have a huge bearing on where they think the club is heading. If that's true, last night was a solid start.

I agree,2 or 3 wins out of the next five, with signs of further strengthening of the roster is going to be important.

What I liked was he was really involved.

Even if some things did not come off he was busy.

And when he is busy he is very dangerous as he is fast.

Thumps up overall from me.

This^^^ Luke being involved from the opening whistle is an important part of his game.

He was sometimes guilty of taking a back seat too often last year, and it was good to see him with ball in hand for longer.

Still needs to show patience and set-up his opposite defenders, but I'm expecting to build into 2017 and become a top flight 7

Once he gets over the fear of initial contact in defence he should be fine.
It's a worry if he still hasn't found the courage after all the games he has played.

Lol. One photo of a tackle doesn't change the fact he is a defensive liability.
I can show you a photo of Tim Moltzen scoring a try or a line break. Doesn't make him a superstar.
I'm glad you chose a photshoped picture. They edited out the other defender to make him look good in the west tigers app.
Lol. Why.

Conspiracy obviously…after they read your post..

Great retort. Your photo doesn't look as impressive when it shows the tackle wasn't one v one.
The forward there protecting him as usual. The babysitter that handicaps our defensive line.

I hope Rowdy got a tackle stat for that..

Yes. Tackle assist. Great idea.
Now Rowdy has that to go along with his try assist.
Brooks zero try assists.

Brooks kicking game was great. Just what we needed. I thought his defence was good as well. He looked faster this year.

Brooks zero try assists.

6th best try assists in the comp in 2015\. Dropped off a tad in 2016 with 14 from 21 matches, but still up there with Barba, Milford, Cameron Smith etc. But let's judge from one game. That's crazy.

Didn't make too many bad decisions on the last tackle, if any the other night. Against the Dragons last year about 30 metres out he gave a nothing pass on the last to a back rower and it was a turnover. It's little things like that he needs to hit on the head. Defence might be a worry, but he isn't the first halfback to struggle in that department. He looked better with the ball in hand and more involved. That's the biggest take away for him Friday night.

One game is too early to judge I agree but the same problems still exist from years past.
People can be blinded by the win and the team performance so I understand.
I'm hoping for more improvement in defence so let's see.

Try assists have never been Brooks problem. His record for a young halfback is incredible in that regard. His problem has been consistency and being able to get repeat sets when a try isn't on.

If he gets his involvement up this year and improves his sixth tackle decision making, he will ge a long way to delivering on his early promise.

As I said in another thread , I don't think Brooks understands how good his running game is and could be if continually hits the ball at speed and takes them on

His kicking game from what I have seen in the 9's and the trials /Rd 1 has improved greatly

I've seen some promising signs from Brooks so far , he is definitely heading in the right direction

Took the whole team about ten or so minutes to get into the groove.

Agree he needs to pass at the line more, he doesn't commit enough. Otherwise I thought he was good without being spectacular.

Halfback is arguably the most important position in terms of team direction, speed, kicking, control etc
But we are happy if our halfback just doesn't make mistakes.
Come off it.
