Brutal Reality - We lack talent

The players we bought don't come from top 4 sides which is part of the problem.

Only Adam Blair came from a successful side but was used incorrectly.

Cowboys snare McLean (Melbourne premiership winner and current Australian prop)

Easts get Cronk (Storm, Australian and QLD legend)

Appears the successful sides get the better players and we scape the bottom of the barrel.

might be wrong but i think benji is the only player we have in the squad who played finals in 2017

and agree with eddie. we have no speed, power and skill. on potential, this is a crap team. on form, this is a crap team. hoping ivan can change their form.

Robbie Rochow.

i meant someone who actually played a game

I think its more fans being realistic then negative.

All this get on the bus stuff bores me more then honest and passionate comments.

Each to their own though.

I respect rans that like to get behind the team and be positive.

However like you said - its been a while.

I know I've said it a few times , but I deal with losing and not having the greatest squad , I can't deal with the squad rolling over , the last 20 minutes of the 1st half we rolled over

All I've heard is we will be different under Cleary , we that was same ol same ol

No excuse it was a trial …..we have great depth (apparently ) so they should be fighting tooth and nail for a starting spot Rd 1

How is it same old same old???? We got pumped in the first hard and worked really hard in the 2nd and didnt get blown out i for one thought there were a few positives

Because they didn't dig in and get dirty , that's why

We weren't going to come back from 20-0 when your playing unlimited interchange and 4 quarter footy

You hang in their and limit the damage , give some penalties away and back your defence and keep it to 12-0

We want to be a Top 8 side , gotta walk the walk , forget the talk because that's all it is …..talk

Boring !

Im sorry but am I missing something? We are in a rebuilding phase arnt we? Why would you even expect top 8 after the crap year we had last year?. I just want improvement. Better defence and a 10-11 spot will do me. Next year I will be looking at the 8.

As the vast majority of the squad are already signed up for 2019, I would hope that they are looking at the eight as realistic for this year.

I am somewhat optimistic …. not confident by any means ..... but optimistic.

I saw signs late last year which I thought positive ..... this year’s the roster can only be describes as better ..... we don’t have all the distractions that the big three brought us.

We have a big test coming up in first 5 or so rounds ..... it is definatevly not the positives or negatives that you see in few trial games which will define the season results.

In the past we have all seen sides turn from dunces to champs and vice versa in a matter of a season ..... so for a change I think that we are due for some luck .. so here’s hoping.

We all want the boys to do well and have a club that’s winning games.
We need to make the eight this year to truly be able to say there has been significant improvement.
There won’t be much positivity around If we bow out again.
No we haven’t superstar player but we do have a better team than last year, Ivan has assembled a group mostly players of his choice, and had nearly a full year to tweak the things he wanted.
But it’s up the 17 to deliver, yes Ivan chooses the 17 but they need to defend, they need to show steel, they need to play smart gruelling football and be the dominate team for a change.
I watch most games and we just get bunked in our own half most the time, I think we averaged 24 points a game conceded last year.
That’s not going to get into the 8.
If these things change then the positive comments may also.

There will be 5 or 6 possible spots to fill at the end of this season. As many have said on this forum, we only need a couple of players who have that 'x' factor to be very competitive. So this year I see as being a struggle to finish close to the 8\. (But with luck, you never know). It should, however, be year where all the new recruits start to gel into a solid team. If we can attract a couple of top liners next year and the 8 is a real possibility.

Wests Tigers forever rebuilding. watersheding. tweaking. re-engineering. no longer drifting Years,,,

Hey..there is always next year… :unamused:

I don't understand how our fans can accept not making the Top 8 this year.

The club told us in March 2017 not playing finals is no longer acceptable.

Any rebuild from then was to ensure another season doesn't drift.

This is the another season. We make the Finals, or people need to be held accountable.

Stop making excuses. Accept nothing less from the club. It's Top 8 in 2018!

Its almost like some have been subconsciously conditioned to think this way….12 months on, 12 months on...yeh lets just make up the numbers again this year - finals are too hard, maybe next year

smh

Bottom line with me is, we're aiming for the premiership and nothing else. On the day, Wests Tigers can beat any of the teams in this comp. This must be a part of the mind set of WT's 'culture change'. If it is, everybody puts in 100% every game, we win more than we lose.
That's what I'll be looking for, everyone putting in 100% in every game.

I think the problem for our club is more to do with "image" rather than culture. Rugby league has its own culture and all clubs would implement a similar set of standards /principles that they would expect players to follow in regard to preparation, behavior, and playing. Even clubs with the percieved best culture will have players who individually do not live up to, and or meet those standards or expectations. The difference is they have better rosters and the abilty to attract players to absorb the failures and hence ensure their ongoing success.
We have a recent history, right or wrong, of poor management, and regardless of what side our fans were on - the Taylor/ Farah circus did immense damage in regard to player club relations. Losing Teddy, Woods and Moses was the icing on the cake. We will suffer for that until we turn it around with results and that is why this year is so significant.
We have signed players this year on probably career best money, that are not in career best form, come with baggage/ or are under an injury cloud. They can say all the right things, but I think you are kidding yourself if you think their signatures were not motivated by money. They need to earn it now, and we should expect nothing less from them.

We have 30 odd hours to finalise our twenty ninth squad position and another four months to sort out our ultimate signing, so hopefully those will help, but finals are a must.

Cleary was only constrained in choice by the half dozen or so players that were contracted for this year upon arrival, therefore this is unmistakably his team and it is his job to get the performance from them.

Having had the unique opportunity to cull and choose to such an extent and start to mould those he wanted to retain over twenty odd rounds and now an off season, he has had ample time. In these circumstances, I simply cannot cop this being a rebuilding year.

Biggest aspect for me this season is that we've had no negative media banging on the door of the 'BUS'. I'm not very optimistic most seasons, my Bulldogs mate reckons I must be the worst supporter. I told him to look on here for worse ones LOLs.
I had high expectations of competing with the Sharks, but the first half deflated me. However we fought back well to get within 8\. My main issues are our backs, the first and last tries against the Sharks shouldn't happen so easily. Alot has been made of Tui's form in the pre season, I really hope Ivan keeps an eye out on our flanks where there has been and still is ordinary defending out there.

Nofoaluma surely needs to be under the microscope. How many tries did he let in against the Sharks? We've blamed his inside men for long enough but his appaling defence over several years makes him just hanging on to his spot in my mind.
Wingers need to do more than just make metres out of our own end. Much more. What else does he do, other than dive over in the corner from 1m out every so often

well I'm still baffled why Ivan Cleary recruited or retained these talentless hacks…

Nofoaluma, Brooks, Naiqama, Chee-Kam, Liddle, McIlwrick. all re-signed under Cleary on top of the recruits...

There has been plenty of movement between other Clubs..

Can someone explain please...?

Understand that the "rebuilding period" line is getting very old very quick, but surely with so many new faces on board, there would HAVE to be a period to gel, combinations, fitness etc etc.

Personally I will start to panic if after the first third of the season we are sitting on the bottom, getting hammered week in and week out, and playing like busteds.

Hoping for a strong start to the season, and DEARLY hoping they smash the Rorters into the next millennium first game
