Brutal Reality - We lack talent

well I'm still baffled why Ivan Cleary recruited or retained these talentless hacks…

Nofoaluma, Brooks, Naiqama, Chee-Kam, Liddle, McIlwrick. all re-signed under Cleary on top of the recruits...

There has been plenty of movement between other Clubs..

Can someone explain please...?

Don't forget Reynolds mate , it's unfair on the other hacks to leave him out !

I do worry about Reynolds. On a 4 year big money deal. He may be a good bloke, and help us build a culture we're after, but he's signed as a star 5/8 and is already being shifted to hooker for a bit. If we have an 80 min hooker then what does he do?

Hopefully he kills it at 5/8 mate. He got stuck in a rut at the dogs the bloke has ticker he will turn things around. Really hope he doesn't spend too much time at hooker, you don't spend 750k on a hooker.

If you want a quality no9 you probably pay that amount or more, but agreed I hope Reynolds time at D/H is minimal

How dare you include Nofo and Brooks in the same sentence.

What do you think of Balmain Boys appraisal of David Nofoaluma..?

BB appraisal of Nofo is pretty much spot on … how long do you carry a player that the opposition will play to every week knowing he leaches points then again he is a fan favourite.

This is why I asked regarding Ivan Cleary's retention of Nofoaluma among the others…

I still don't think anyone has answered that query..

I think all the tries coming on his edge made his performance look worse then what it was. The first try the Sharks had created an overlap no winger was stopping that try. The second try was lucky and the third try was class from the Sharks.

How much is Jake Granville on? If memory serves me correctly Issac Luke was on 450k when he was killing it at Souths.

I think Ivan sees improvement in Noofas games this year and he also has seen something in all the others he recruited, maybe he knows what is needed to get the best out of them for us,after all he is a professional coach and a person held in high esteem within the NRL ranks…

Heck Geo,
Where would Cleary have found the players to replace all of these guys in addition to those that have been replaced? We haven't even found a number 29 or 30 yet.
Personally I think Liddle was a must to be re-signed. He hasn't had a fair crack at it yet with his injury last season costing most of the second half of the year. He's still maturing and should be given the chance this year to show his worth.
Brooks - well, probably enough has been said already about Brooks. This will be his last contract at the Tigers unless he improves hugely. But to have let him go with all the crap that was going on with Moses et al would not, in my opinion, been sensible. Especially as there wasn't really a ready made replacement. I mean do we really think Moses would have stayed had Brookes been told to go elsewhere? Cronk? I doubt it.
As for Noffa - well, he certainly has deficiencies, but could we have attracted anyone better? Look who we did get - Thomson and Fonua - not exactly world beaters.
McIlwrick I would agree with. I wouldn't have kept him nor Chee Kam. But again, you can't just replace an entire team in one year. Both McIIwrick and Chee Kam are on fairly short term contracts I believe.

I am still hopeful that the crew we have assembled may just scrape into the 8\. Massive achievement if we do.

This forum makes me depressed

That shouldn’t make you feel superior, that’s how most WTS supporters feel most of the time.
That’s how we recognise each when we pass in the Street,

The only time we don’t feel depressed is when we get to see a video of the 2005 GF, ( Happy Days)🍾😀🍻

Then we remember that was 13 yrs ago and slide back into depression again.(Bugger 🤬🤮)

…and the same footy on field thus far

Its been a long time between drinks, and the last drink

I think its more fans being realistic then negative.

All this get on the bus stuff bores me more then honest and passionate comments.

Each to their own though.

I respect rans that like to get behind the team and be positive.

However like you said - its been a while.

I know I've said it a few times , but I deal with losing and not having the greatest squad , I can't deal with the squad rolling over , the last 20 minutes of the 1st half we rolled over

All I've heard is we will be different under Cleary , we that was same ol same ol

No excuse it was a trial …..we have great depth (apparently ) so they should be fighting tooth and nail for a starting spot Rd 1

I was at the trail, it wasnt like that.

There were some major execution issues on the right hand side defence . Cant deny it.

But the big issue was McIllwrick giving really poor service and as a result our halves were under pressure and not able to finish sets. We couldnt maintain pressure.

Piss poor service.

The real difference was Matt Moylan finished their sets.

That's making sense to me: poor RHS defence, poor dummy half, poor finishing to sets…

No wonder it reminded me of the same old rubbish - it was!!!

Godinet should start in that case; select RHS players who are better defenders; how to finish the sets better though? It must be bad when Benji is getting consideration as a better option for quality set finishes!

Let me ask this question and I would like you all to be honest in your answer

Would you go work for a company if everyone was saying it is going broke or it's a sh_t hole to work for

Now
How is that question different to telling everyone we are going to come last or are no hope to make the 8

If potential new recruits read this stuff they will take the better offer every time And we will miss out yet again

And that doesn't always mean better pay
It is great to be passionate about the club
I just don't believe being negative helps us in any way

Yes we need some elite players
We still have 1.4 million to spend
Who really knows who Ivan is talking to

You do realise this forum is nothing more than some fantasy land opinion based discussion point… Potential employees/recruits wouldnt be looking on here for a review of the club.

Positivity is great. However some people are positive and group focused. Others like myself are details focused.
The positive people run from negative talk, the details people want to hear that the problems are being fixed.

I was glad we won against the Cowboys (crazy second trial Cows vs Storm, Kyle Feldt scored an awesome try).
I am not glad that we lost against the Sharks. It makes me worry that our forward pack isn't ready to go against the big teams and at the moment we have a strong forward pack compared to our spine talent and maybe our backs.

If our forward pack cannot hold it against Cronulla it will be a long season. But we won't be at the bottom of the table, it just means we will struggle to get in the top 10 and will be lucky to make the 8\. But we will be a side that isn't Bottom 14-16.

From there we can start offering big money to a RTS, SBW, Israel Folau, etc.

Don’t worry , guys and guyesses , we will hit the field running in Round 1, we’l be a bunch of brutal heathens on a mission from God to barbecue those plucked putrid poultry and show no mercy’ as they hightail it from wherever we’re playing.
Our forwards will put down those Goldilocks books that they’ve been read ing since Sat night and our backs will keep repeating over and over again that” our right defence doesn’t really stink “.

Ivan will keep the bus running, either to take the team to the club for a party, or to carry all of the players (who’ve been knocked cold from one of the Grubs hospital passes ) to the nearest infirmary

With our off Season, We can’t lose.

Just when I was getting excited about this season….along comes the grim reaper from up north...geez GCT,get behind the team for once,it cant always be doom and gloom....
So what if the Sharkies trial wasnt that good, maybe Ivan can come up with something on opening night that might make you happy mate....
