OFFICIAL Bryce Gibbs [Discussion]

sad to see gibbs go but understand. fifita on the other hand i'm not happy about leaving. the club officially announced his re-signing so why wouldn't they just force him to stay and cut elsewhere?

i know we re-signed and / or upgraded a few players and it sounds like blair might be on the way but didn't we also see mckinnon go early, payten retire, cayless retire, etc. surely they will let fulton, junior moors, schirnack and a few others go to keep fifita?

Its all too bloody easy to walk out of a contract.

The Sharks will blow their wad for next season and end up getting fined a couple of seasons later, its a risk and it seems its common place in the NRL…..we stuff up our cap and let someone take contracted players to ease our problem, the same thing will probably happen to Cronulla in a few years time.
Why arent contracts binding?
Make it once its signed its signed...thats it, no going back on your word, be a man, do what you agreed to.

Personally I don't want Blair, too many NZers in the team and we'll end up playing like the NZ team (completely lazy - turn it on for 5 minutes then not give a darn)

As for the pay of players, every single one of them gets paid too much, Real life min. wage 30k, League min wage 50k

If any of them want to stay all they have to do is take a pay cut and not live an extravagant lifestyle.

They all get paid a lot for not adding anything to the economy other than taking money out of our pockets and making us feel good when they win.

yes hate to see this team become the all blacks.Nz all blacks that is.Laziness and consistency is certainly lacking from "certain" players from the shaky isles.

good post

It seems all clubs do it, sign players knowing full well they will have to cut some mid contract to stay under and to sign others.

We basically did the same thing a few years ago when we cut Harrison and Fulton mid contract

**Another piece of good news for Wests Tigers is the extension given to prop Andrew Fifita following an agreement between Andrew and the Club to exercise an option in his current contract for the 2012 season.
Fifita, 21, has been a revelation for Wests Tigers since making his NRL debut in Round Two last year after joining the Club from Griffith Waratahs. Like Woods, he too was a member of the NSW Emerging Blues squad.\
\
His mobility, hard work and offloads have seem him develop into a regular member of the Wests Tigers forward pack. Fifita has played 31 NRL matches for Wests Tigers and represented Tonga last year.\
\
“I’m enjoying my footy here at Wests Tigers and I’m learning every day. We have a good squad here so it is exciting to know that I will be apart of that for a while yet,'' Fifita said.\
\
Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said that it was important to secure Woods and Fifita for a longer period, especially after both players progression through the Club’s development system.\
\
“Aaron and Andrew are showing maturity beyond their years and are perfect examples of the depth we now have throughout our player roster,” Humphreys said.\
\
“They’ve both had a lot more game time this year which will only benefit their development and the Club in the long run."**

yeah that's what I don't get, either this is true or we're being treated like mushrooms. How can he now get out of an option he supposedly has already signed? or is it a case of the Sharks are throwing wads of cash at him and the Tigers are thinking what's best for Fifita money wise? So the Tigers are releasing him.

Sick of these rumours. The club need to come out and say something already.

To keep so many average players like Flanagan, Beau and Moors and not be able to secure Fifita is just ridiculous if true. McKinnon, Gibbs is going and Payten is retiring, surely there is room for Fifita.

Unprofessional. That's what the Tigers are.

wow there is alot of smart business man in here.

Well considering we appear to be losing AT LEAST 4 of our main 17 and only signing 1 for next year due to being over the cap, there's probably more on here then at WTs!!

Unconditionally Defending the club is why we need a culture change.

Hell of a lot of assumptions you leaping to there. My understanding is that Gibbs & Fulton are sacrificial due to Blair. The case with Fifita is his _contract_ is up at the end of this year. Now there is an option for next year but options are tricky and none of us know what form of option that is. Some are in favour of one party, some the favour of the other party, most in both and are able to be broken unilateraly. To me thats what this sounds like. Sounds like Tigers tried to exercise their option and keep Fifita at a bargain rate under the option of the Contract, Fifita has been offered a motza from Cronulla and is therefore able to exercise _his_ option to get out. Thats what it looks like to me from the outside and if thats the case the club can not be blamed (nor can Fifita to be honest).

The club is at fault simply because they want to go after Blair.. getting rid of 3 players (maybe more) to get 1 player is a joke its bad managment skills

Explain it or just shut up. Sometimes it seems this forum is full of attention-seeking kids. Grow up.

If you know something, good for you; don't mention it if you're not going to share it. It's really simple.

Good post. It sounds to me like a European option and he has merely given an indication he would look to exercise. Under this form of option, it all depends whether fifita wishes to exercise or not when his contract expires at the end of this season.

I would think under a this type of option, fifita can sign with the sharks now and just let his option expire. Just smart from fifita in my view.

i don't know anything, nor am i claiming or dropping any hints.I personally can't stand attention seekers who play the 'i know something you don't ' game.I was just stating an opinion, and what i believe is that there is more to it then them trying to accomadate Blair.I don't think even Lamb would be that stupid to release 4 players in order to sign 1

This is just guessing, but to me it looks like we are replacing Payten with Blair, Gibbs with Groat, and Fifita with Begovich…........Fulton and Heighno to stay.

refer to my above post.I don't think Fifita has anything to do with Blair or the cap.I believe that the Sharks are so desperate they are willing to pay overs for a guy who has only played about 30 games, and the tigers don't think he's worth it at this point in time.I think releasing McKinnon and the early retirement of Payten are good things as i believe they would have just been taking up space in 2012.Payten is finished and Mckinnon is to injury prone.IMO the only player being let go for Blair is Gibbs, something which im all for,coz if i had to choose 1 over the other i'd take Blair in a split second.Everything i have said is only based on my opinion,it has nothing to do with 'inside knowledge' nor am i trying to hint i know more then i am letting on.I can't stand when ppl do that as much as im sure you do

Bryce Gibbs has it all over his facebook and twitter pages, that he and Fifita are going to cronulla next year, which absoulty sucks, i see that in no way is blair worth this, it's costing us our loyalty, some great long serving players, up and coming talent, and ultimatly are 2011 season, with all this distraction and disharmony

One thing that seems to be forgotten is that Gibbs is a long time servant of the club and is approaching a salary cap dispensation. I know we got in trouble this year for him and Farah but surely it must be next year (or the year after).

To my mind there is something more to this as why you move on someone who will qualify for a salary cap dispensation and not someone else?

Perhaps there is something rotten in the court of concord

Moh theres a link in another thread to foxsports where humpty is quoted as saying theyre negotiating, all but done & dusted
–----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl-premiership/wests-tigers-coach-tim-sheens-says-his-sides-injury-list-has-caused-huge-problems-for-his-nrl-side/story-fn2mcuj6-1226073196330

Sheens hinted at being resigned to losing props Andrew Fifita and Bryce Gibbs who have been negotiating with Cronulla this week, but the veteran coach said nothing had been rubber-stamped with the Sharks yet.

"There is negotiations going on at the minute with Cronulla but it is the hands of the administrators," he said.

Both players would be granted early releases to join Shane Flanagan's side, with Gibbs still having three years left on his deal and Fifita 12 months.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said nothing had been agreed between the two parties yet, but expected there to be news on that front very soon.

"It would be wrong of me to go into details about contracts, but I think there will be some movement next week," Humphreys told AAP.

Love how sheens never uses injury as an excuse
