OFFICIAL Bryce Gibbs [Discussion]

Ink, its complicated (understatement). There are MANY forms of options. Sometimes its simple and the option is ONLY in favour of one party but these ar rare because if you think about it, what is the point of the other party signing that contract, may as well be additional year. More frequently its complex deal where both parties have th eoption with a range of triggers that each can use to exercise. I dont pretend to know the deal here but to me it seems clear that the Tigers tried to exercise their option and fifita has used his to get out and take the money. either way its a no blame either way and really has zero to do with Blair.

Thanx….thought it was only always one party or the other.

Surprised - and pised off at this whole mess- I guess that such a promising potential would be offered such an easy out, you'd thnk we'd have secured him at least a bit more tightly, when imo hes been probably our best young prospect for a while now

This is the issue isn't it.

Fifita is our best prospect in a long time. Name a player who is a better prospect. Benji and Robbie in my opinion are the only two that looked better than Fifita has in a short period in the top grade.

Plus he is a prop which is where we have struggled in the past.

Fulton is a borderline first grader. A great player in a team with a massive set of props and second rowers. Gibbs defensively is a weapon but he can struggle getting go forward and is probably better suited to the second row in our team. We can lose these two. Fifita is a different story. I'd pay him overs.

He may be a prospect but at his age if has chosen to chase the money to go to the sharks a club going nowhere then the boy doesnt treat his career with any respect. If your carreer is about to start would you not want to play with quality players quality coaches and administration than take the first pay day and sacrifice a real opportunity to be guided and developed properly.

Over the years Ive seen many raw talented players come and go decide to chase the money quickly and disappear just as quick, unfortunately in this case Andrew may rue the day he decided to put money ahead of his career, I cannot see how his game will get better without any senior guidence and at the sharks all I see they have to show the way is a player that is just as immature as fifita…....Gibbs that is!!!!

Fifita is our best prospect in a long time

I am not sure I agree with this statement. Fifita has potential but to my mind he is an _unusual_ style of front rower. If you consider some of the great front rowers lazarus, Webcke, Civa, Price et al they all had great leg drive and could constantly get over the advantage line. They also had good lateral speed in the defensive line as well.

Fifita has enormous upper body strength coupled with good timing for his fends and the ability to change direction quickly but I do questions his leg drive and ability to cross the advantage line with players hanging off him. He actually may be better suited playing on the edge of the ruck rather than tight - which is what we need.

I have watched him closely and when plays more direct he has actually not as effectual than when he runs across the field swatting players looking for holes in the defensive line. That coupled with his past weight issues and the fact that he is not a noted defender makes me more keen to secure Groat and Woods. I believe have the ability to have roll across the advantage line consistently providing a much needed platfrom for Robbie, Benji and Lui.

I believe that with the retirement of Payten that Gibbs is more a loss from an experential and defensive point of view. As things stand, we are going to have lots of potential but not much experience. Gareth aside, Keithy is only 25 as is Blair (if we indeed secure him) as our forward leaders.

Well reading that it seems the Fifita deal is all about the money - i.e. he can all a squillion more at the Sharks and doesn't want to exercise his option for next year. I thought the option was in the club's favour but possibly not. If it IS in the club's favour, we're nuts to let him go - activate the clause and he can do what he wants in 2013\. A lot of things change in a year.

Blair IMO is a backrower, he should not play prop.

Fulton IMO must go, but really really disappointed that GIbbs is leaving.
He was starting to shine. Cutting stupid penalties out of his game, with more go-forward than ever, mongrel, and well his defence for a prop is unmatchable.

I don't want us to lose Gibbs AND Fifita for Blair. Fulton and maybe Shirnack/s and a couple other fringe players could make way for Blair, as he is a bloody 2nd rower.

In a game where one tackle can end your career, you make as much money from it as quickly as possible mate.

tbh im sad at losing gibbs and particularly fifita but guys we still have benji, farah, ellis, lote, lawrence ,heino, big red, dwyer plus some up and comers on our books so in all honesty we have a top roster

bwaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha so true

luv it !!!

I agree we still have a good roster and a young but strong group of front rowers - Galloway, Woods, Schirnack, Groat and Begovich (who has been the only forward in our 20s getting over 100m every single week)

Shirnack in the front row? no thanks i'd rather have Harrison and Danny Galea

from the telecrap…

Marshall's performance came after he fronted coach Tim Sheens to ask why the club was allowing so many players to walk away after this season.

The decision to let Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita sign with Cronulla has caused angst at Concord between the players and management.
