oh boy in the final seconds a fijian sent off for decking meaney in front of posts meaney converts balmain nines champions win 6-4 well done to both teams in searing heat
 
Congrats to Balmain for toughing it out in arguably the most difficult conditions any team will face this year. Who were the standouts for Balmain?
 
It was Ratu Tagive that got cleaned up for the penalty.

Tim Simona was lighning quick and evasive. Farlow was an utter rock, Matty Ryan was always dangeroud, Big Al & Eloni have added some evasive manouvers to their running game. Latu was great and Meaney showed some real promising development at standoff.

Jason Schirnack did not play today, was replaced with a winger but more details will come when match reports are posted etc.

I can see the issue of playing in a "mickey mouse" comp but in reality it is two 8 minute halves with unlimited interchange and excellent hydration provided. Gives the team a chance to bon and in terms of exertion would not be a scratch on a Wanda sand hills run. Just shakes off some rust.

All the players had good moments and it was good to see Achurch back in the black and gold

Oh just quickly as well.

Another highlight of the day was an exhibition match played before the last two finals. Played by two of the four teams that will be taking part in a RL comp for people with restricted ability. It caters to people of all ages with conditions as diverse as cerebal palsy to amputation. They played there hearts out and it served as a timely reminder as to what this game can do for people from all walks of life
 
Great result, what was the crowd like and it was terrific to see one of the International sides make the final.
Back in 1993 in the 7's competition Tim Sheens signed up Noa Nadruku, any possible signing's in 2011?.
 
Crowd was mainly family and friends and because of the heat they left as they were knocked out. Japan were again great to watch.

Tim Sheens was there to present the trophy so who knows what may happen
 
Although he'll be playing NYC this season, how did Ratu Tagive go throughout the day? Does he look a brighter prospect than Peni or is it too early to tell?

And how did Matt Davidson go?
 
Ratu is about on par with his brother at a similar age, a little less explosive but also less damaged. Has the same positional issues on kicks it would seem. But the off season isnt over yet.

Davo did well. Played alot of back row in the 9's. Work in progress

Usual spot as a wide running backrower/centre. He is seemingly leaner and slightly bigger than last season. His devastating fend was in full use yesterday. He has almost mastered it, but lacks the aggressive "punch" to drop defenders in their tracks.
He would NOT look out of place if he got his chance during the Foundation Cup.
C'mon Sheens, give little red a go with the big boys and let's see if he has what it takes!! 😛ray:

Thanks for all the reports guys, what must have been a stinker of a day to watch, other than play..
Matty knows how to break line alright, but his toughness not to get injured , is always a worry to me.

But I how that this year could be his breakthrough year as he is very exciting to watch

Thanks CT. Really wanted to go on Sat, but it was way toooo hot!

Hope Matty has a big year, can't wait for the season to begin!
