Campbelltown Sports Centre of Excellence finally a reality

brilliant outcome. can't wait.

also why is Cricket NSW only giving 100K and WT giving 250K? Cricket NSW should be loaded now with Sixers and Thunder.

Because Blacktown has proved a giant black hole for them.

As will this.

Players don't want to travel out there.

Great outcome but I was hoping a bit more money would be spent to make it fully state-of-the-art. I think the centre developed at Penrith cost $22 million and ideally I would have liked to see the overall figure around $25-$30 million, make it truly state of the art with training facilities such as gym equipment, training fields and especially on the rehab side of things with ice baths, swimming pools, hyperbaric chambers, psysio rooms etc.

I thought exactly the same as you Willow…. But i guess beggars can't be choosers.
Anything will be better, then what we got at the moment. Let's hope it happens, but election promises are often abandoned once in office. 😕

Have you asked them?

How many people become Millionaires and then move to Campbelltown ?

I'm not blaming the place but the reality is Sydney is more attractive the close you get to the beach and everyone moves further east who can afford it not further west

What on earth are sports training facilities? Could that be any more vague?

You'd say this is a start but sounds a long way off being world class nor does the capacity sound very large.

I don't really understand who's going to be using it if this current proposal goes ahead either. Cricket, AFL, football and league? Juniors only, adults too? Everyone in the same gym > rosters of who can use what and when? Football wouldn't want to share facilities with league, too much damage done to pitches.

To me this sounds like a local sports centre for the kids in the area. Not a realistic option for the Tigers unless the facilities are ramped up a bit and exclusivity factors are taken into account.

I'd also be interested if the local labour candidate will match or beat the Liberals contribution.

I work for them.

Where do you want me to start?

Players, coaches, admin?

They did big plans for Blacktown 10 years ago to take a lot of their training, pathways programs, state matches and admin there.\

However virtually all have fought tooth and nail to keep headquarters at Moore Park and training/games/pathways programs there.

Thats Why Cricket NSW are putting down a pitiful amount of money to this project.

Blacktown was an investment for the area. there is a massive stadium out there but the facilities there are crap as far as i know (been there only once)

what they're trying to do out here in campbo is to create great facilities with state of the arc gym, motion analysis and best of all STAFF!. as i said before, uws health science campus is full of doctors, physios, exercise sports science/exercise physiologists- that is where the biggest investment is.

the fact of the matter is that sports science is evolving at such a high rate that you need to target students straight out of uni to stay updated- experience is invaluable but the experienced heads in these matters are not very helpful.

I hope they future proof it somewhat, with the ability to upgrade the facility if extra money becomes available from time to time. One thing the Australian Govt is terrible at doing is planning ahead for anything.

Aside from the travel aspect for players, my biggest fear about Campbelltown is that the Magpies had the area all to themselves for nearly two decades, and the locals basically ignored them.

They trained there, played all home games there, had the leagues club there, and the local area basically pretended they didn't exist to the point where the magpies ended their stand alone existence playing first grade matches in front of family and friends.

So I am worried that there will now be a repeat if the Tigers base themselves out of there …the locals will just see them as another inner-west club lobbing themselves in Campbelltown, as they did with the Ashfield Magpies landing out there.

Its not an easy one, because with all the land releases the population in the general area will increase significantly, and its not something the club wants to miss out on. I just don't know if basing themselves out there full time is the right call.

I personally think homebush is a better location, but don't know if the club is even considering that as an option?

Players go to Penrith, Canberra, Nth Qld etc, yet they don't want to go to Ctown. Keep the excuses coming.

Nope, because it's pretty easy to insinuate.

Eddie give us their addresses and mobile numbers while your at it.

A few stat decs to confirm they hate blacktown would also be handy, so you can satisfy some anonymous internet troll.

No, just names will do. Didn't realize a simple bit of evidence to back up a claim would result in a federal case.
