Campbelltown Sports Centre of Excellence finally a reality

You can't have 16 clubs based in the eastern suburbs. Wests have always been a "working class" club with a proud fibro heritage. If Campbelltown is to be Wests new home than its not a bad fit.
The correlation with the AFL is Collingwood. By far not the most affluent suburb but it doesn't stop it being a powerhouse club.

We all get that you're passionate about the Campbelltown area Gunners - But seriously, Comparing Campbelltown to Townsville… Have you ever been to Townsville? You love Sydneys West with so much I'd wonder if you've ever been anywhere...
After all, Where else would you ever want to go?
Shannon Gallant (Western Suburbs LOCAL legend) Refers to living in Townsville as
"The Best 3 Years Of His Life" He's been a player and a resident in both areas.
That said, I have no problem with it... I like the Stadium and the area...
I just don't believe the money is out there... No corporate dollar!! - That may change, But it hasn't yet....
Penrith (And surrounds) has this in abundance. As well as a profitable leagues club in the area that fully supports the team, A head of Football that is second to none... And a thousand other things.

Again, You are comparing chalk and cheese.....

You're straying from the point. It's not about how good the area is to live in, people are criticizing it for its remoteness which is bull. It's no more remote than the Gong where the Dragons are based. I don't understand the argument and don't get the concern people have that players might have to travel an extra 20-30 mins to work every day.

No I'm not - You exact wording was that Campbelltown was just as attractive as Townsville - You would be the only person on this earth that would lay such a claim….

Where is Campbelltown again ?

That's in Queensland…Izzi was from close to there..

Townsville is nice , but its a pain getting anywhere for a small city

The Cowboys are trying everything to get the Stadium either upgraded or even moved

Some are lacking some severe comprehension issues in this thread. Nothing was said about Ctown being an attractive place to live.

Campbelltown isn't as bad as some make it out to be, I really think it can become a very pleasing place for players and fans to go to if it is done right..just in my opinion,I live in the Southern Highlands of NSW,Moss Vale to be precise,I regularly travel to Campbelltown to WTs games as well as see my in-laws…where I live it is renowned for being a place highly sought after by the wealthy retiring business people that are no longer interested in living in the city, but by living where Iam it is an easy drive to the city and its surrounds including Campbell town etc.etc.my main point is that travelling to Campbell town is as easy as travelling from Bondi to Strathfield..it all has to be done that it is convenient and as hasle free as possible.....just my opinion.....

I agree TT. Nothing wrong with Camden, Narellan, Picton etc. Tedesco grew up on a farm that's worth millions. Ctown has that stench though that whenever you hear it the first places you think of are Claymore, Minto, Airds etc.

And let's not forget about some of the seedy area's in the city where people with money prefer to live. Reefern, Waterloo etc. these places are everywhere but it's always easier to stick to stereotypes.

Well Teddy is from Camden and travels now to Archaic Concord..so I say we move closer for him..

Starts off with a bit of Farah Taylor crap but greys onto a new COE at Concord.

Wests Tigers officials last night insisted there was no fresh drama between Jason Taylor and former captain Robbie Farah after the coach opted to rest the NSW hooker for tomorrow’s game against the Sydney Roosters.

Farah played all 80 minutes of the opening State of Origin game on Wednesday night in Sydney and his agent Sam Ayoub said the Blues rake was happy to be given a rest, scotching rumours that had circulated suggesting he and Taylor had fallen out over the decision.

The Tigers have won four of the five games Farah has missed this season.

A win over the Roosters without Farah on deck would give Taylor further food for thought as he ponders the best way to keep his side in finals contention.

Farah and Taylor fell out dramatically last season after the coach told his then-captain he was free to leave the club and would be playing in reserve grade if he remained. Farah knuckled down in the pre-season and left Taylor with no choice but to include him in the first-grade squad.

The Tigers’ game against the Roosters comes as the club digests some major changes off the field, the most notable the finalisation of ownership changes which saw Wests Ashfield increase their stake to 75 per cent.

Chair Marina Go retained her role on a new nine-person board and outlined her plans for the future, including the club’s plans to finance a Centre of Excellence. Go revealed that Harry Triguboff, the country’s richest man, shaped as a pivotal figure in the club’s attempt to finance the facility.

The club is targeting a redevelopment at Concord Oval with the help of the state government, the local council and the NRL. Go said Wests Tigers were attempting to convince Triguboff to throw his hefty financial weight behind the $22 million plan.

“That for me is a big project that I would really love to have finished by the time I hang up my boots,” Go said.

“Obviously there is the funding that is available now around the stadium decision. We would like to access some of that funding but it is not the whole lot. We have commitments from various people but nothing set in stone.

“Our best scenario would be to have a centre in the next 18 months. We have some big, aggressive plans. Harry loves the club. He is a dyed-in-the-wool Balmain supporter. I know for him that piece of the puzzle needed to remain there. In every discussion he has had with me ... he talks about Balmain needing to be a part of the Wests Tigers in the future for him to remain financially connected with the organisation.

“We’re still discussing with Harry the opportunity for him to assist us with his Centre of Excellence.”

Go also said the club was delighted to have retained halves Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks, who agreed to take up an option on their contracts for next year.

“Clearly, there is no denying the impact of those two young men on our fan base,” Go said.

“The re-signing of those two guys was important for what we are trying to achieve. We believe in the team we have, we feel very strongly we have a fantastic group of young men. I know the football department and coach would like to invest in them and keep them together.”

Probably the same amount it's been since a few here visited Cambo.

I lived in the inner west for most of my life, and still work around the Redfern area. I moved out to the Campbelltown area 8 years ago and I had the same reservations and preconcieved thoughts on the south west, as everyone who has never lived there does. The amount of junkies and thugs in the inner west, leaves Campbelltown to shame!! It's all in a name, I guess…

Hmm mm…. Campbelltown, Concord, Balmain.... Confused again

Where are we heading... Does anyone know?

At least it shows they have a plan i guess. Suck up to the rich guy.

Seriously guys, cut the crap and stick to the topic, which is the Centre of Excellence. Otherwise this thread will close.

Concord would be the ideal place to rebuild if possible. Seems like pie in the sky stuff relying on Harry but you never know. All the money in the JV is coming from Ashfield so to have the team there i think makes sense.
