what did Akoula do wrong to not get picked, potter done the same with Ava after his 1st game. does not seem like the thing to do to kids and there egos, play 10 mins one week, then get dropped.

It's about building for the future ..he has the Coaches eye and will be in the top grade again .The Coach is laying a platform of experience.

Maybe picked up a niggle. Maybe rewarding Spence who has been outstanding in State Cup and Sue who would have got a run last week if not for a facial injury sustained against Wenty the week prior.

I like what he is doing.

look how Ava has improved with good management in terms of minutes to find his feet etc.

Potter is bringing these guys through out of necessity but also with an eye to the future

x2 agreed , let's have some patience it's only been 6 rounds , forget the semi's we are no where near the calibre of Storm, Roosters , Rabbits etc. so what the hell .

Yeah it's smart how it's been done. Give them a taste. Assess their strengths and weaknesses, get them to go back and work on it. I don't see why we can't rotate say Akoula, Spence, Sue, Seumanafagai or anyone else if their performances warrant selection.

he is doing something unique, there are positives and negatives of it.

we can only assess how this goes at the end of the season, cant jump to conclusions yet.

if it doesn't work out, he needs to be man- accept his mistake and not do it again.
we saw how he did that with farah

I'll use a Gus Gould quote to explain why coaches do this

"You have a lifetime to prepare for your debut ,and a week to prepare for your 2nd game "

YEPP!! right on. debuting as a forward is very different compared to a back. give em a taste, and they'll kill someone to get back in there! feed that hunger, it's very unique to the younger guys. or it tends to be

good strategy from potter, keeps the competition going which is something he emphasised in the offseason

Probably more to do with motivation, letting him know he still has a lot of work to do.

If he goes back to nsw cup he should be playing more confident, discover new things, bring it back to first grade.

I think it's smart.

Yeah,
I think he even said something about that,
He now knew what areas he had to work on so potter sent him back down to knuckle down and improve.

Yeah I think it's keeping them hungry and not necessarily exposing players who could be a little bit out of their depth at the moment. They get their taste and go back to improve.

Find it funny how most people say that Potter is doing the right thing by giving players a taste and then dropping them back to reggies or NYC, but when Sheens used to do exactly the same thing (ie: Miller) he was crucified and abused for doing it.

In the case of Miller, he was never really given a proper opportunity to play half back, it was like a token selection. At least Potter has picked him as #7 and asked him to play as a #7.

I think it is smart. Also love how he is looking at state cup as opposed to NYC. If sheens had of been here still I have no doubts Santi, Lovett and brown would have came up…would have been well before their time.
