CEO - Shane Richardson

This podcast was a great listen (minus the last 20 minutes when they spoke about the Super League and I lost interest). After a tough week, hearing our CEO come out and speak like that re-affirms that we are on the right track. We have handled this situation the way it needed to be handled and as a result, we can continue to plan for the coming years and move forward.

The couple of outside the club signings will be interesting over the next 2 to 3 weeks. I love how they keep their cards close to their chest on these things.

Also good to hear 4 other players want to do deals from within the club and want to stick around. So there should be some more news there too.
I agree.
Funnily I stayed around for the ESL talk. Listening to that I have a far greater appreciation for Richo as a CEO from a business and strategy perspective.
I don’t know if it’s just me but Richo talks very much like a politician when discussing the status of his club ie the Tigers, releasing info where necessary and keeping guarded when required. Where as the talk of the strategy around the NRL buying out the ESL he has no direct connection to it so he could be very open with his thoughts, so you got a far greater example of how his mind ticks.

What makes you say that? Maybe it went over my head? Or YouTube/spotify times are different

On YouTube it starts from around 48 mins.
He talks about how we have cash and we can just wait for opportunities.

He says clubs over extend themselves then can’t afford to resign players and how you would be stupid if you can’t realise who he’s talking about.

I feel he is referring to DCE bc Manly can’t afford his market value and it’s been in the news recently OR it could be Kai Pearce Paul. Hopefully both.

I think this is in relation to broncos not having the cash next year for Reynolds. While Reynolds may not be who the target will be either

100%.
There was nothing new or even that interesting in the WTigers stuff but the Super League discussion was CEO level strategy and very interesting.

Yep, I thought it was very interesting and amazing to hear his thoughts and ideas for the UK game, I even think Graham was pretty impressed by his knowledge. My fear is that the game as whole poach Richo for a role in global development, brand building, collaboration etc.

Given his history in the UK, I imagine he would be a favourite to take over. Just not sure what Richo’s relationship is like with Vlandy’s. It doesn’t seem like they are very close.

They already did that though. He moved from Souths CEO to head office devising a growth strategy for grass roots and pathways. Was most likely very involved in the move from the Holden/Toyota cup to a state base junior 20s comp.

Popped the pimple
I thought it was about removing a season long distraction but in reality he described how many moving parts there are to salary cap management. Makes no sense to sit around waiting for a player to decline an offer, ala Wests Tigers for however long before Richo.

Actually loved it. So much to learn for any corporate types about not being a generic managerial wanker (like me)
He reminded me of my old boss who could go from a true mate to a well educated corporate high flyer in a second...its good not to waste any opportunities when you find yourself with people like this who you can learn so much from by just listening and watching.

Im not sure he shouldve divulged where Galvin snr is employed at tho

A couple of times he laid it on so thick with the Galvin's that you had to wonder if it was all put on, which is what you need in his role. The place of work thing was certainly interesting but I doubt he makes "mistakes" like that on accident.

Do you think LM's decision has anything to do with the players he's playing with, Richo off the cuff said (52:30min) 'it may be the players he's playing with'.

I think there is something there, especially Luia. Good player but possibly not the best captain/bloke.

Obviously, not sure but........just a feeling. And he's there for four more years.
