He's back to his best. But it was a long and very difficult road. The moment the bowel is perforated the chances of infection are incredibly high. It took him a long time to get over the surgery and complications. He lost a huge amount of weight and it caused him to miss much of the pre-season six months later. And he suffered his at a similar age to Staines. I mean, Charlie might be fully healed in twelve weeks. But match fitness will be far more challenging.

I genuinely hope we extnd him and make it long term. Him and Junior Tupou are a big part of our future.

UPDATE - Charlie Staines is recovering well after undergoing successful surgery two weeks ago to repair a perforated bowel. He has a review with his specialist in the coming weeks, when a return to play date will be advised.

He fits on the wing and can fill in at fullback. Staines is exactly the quality of player we need in our club.
