Shannon Nevin….oh the humanity

I recall a time when many Balmain fans consoled themselves about losing Tim Brasher with the uplifting thought that we had Shannon Nevin coming over. I may have been one of those people and I can only blame my youth for such stupidity although he did look promising at Manly!!!

I believe he eventually fell into a man-hole on Darling St and was never heard of again…

My information is that Shannon went out with a very big bang at a presentation night his last year with us. He received an award (reserve grade) and lets just say his speech was a classic….......and good on him.

Steelers v Dragons (Round 5, 1998) - 34.37% (110 votes)
Magpies v Tigers (Round 14, 1999) - 37.18% (119 votes)
Bears v Sea Eagles (Round 20, 1999) - 28.43% (91 votes)

It's tight......

I remember this game. What a tragic end to it.

looking at those 2 sides, it really does bring back those memories of the era when some talented players always kept your hopes up but never delivered. Guys like Brooker, Dynevor, Howard and Fritz for wests and Webber, Sinclair, and Field for balmain never delivered the goods.

I have to say that Wade Rothery remains one of those players that i cant believe didnt make it. Maybe he suffered defensively, but i remember him being one of the most elusive wingers ive seen. A huge step and didnt lose pace when he used it. He must have fallen out with the coach because he was definately a guy worth persisting with.

where now down by a couple of votes cmon magpies and tigers rise up so our colours can be shown.

Did Jacin Sinclair leave Balmain and return? I only really remember him for calling a reporter an egg while playing for Souths.

Alooooooooooooooot of names i dont know there!

How about that Magpies team? Apart from Hodgo, McGuinness and the front row I don't think I've heard of any of them.

Oh well good on Tommy for giving hundreds of people the chance to say to people after a dozen drinks down at the pub that yes they played first grade football back in the late 90s…

Lol Yoss….... cmon how could you forget ......Leo. DYNEVOR .... Dane. DORAHY ... as Wests halve combination......

Shame on you Jazza.........it was only 1999.....

Only blokes I don't remember from Balmain is Morecombe and Rothery....

Haha aww sorry Geo but I was only 10 years old back in 1999, I couldnt go to any games and I wasnt allowed to watch any of the games on Fox because the TV was taken by my parents lol.
I only managed to see games more regularly about 5 or 6 years ago…. Those early games are a blur. Thats why I realllllly wanna see a young Hodgo and Skando in particular in action

Yeh he returned under Wayne Pearce and was used as a 5/8, but mainly played reserve grade when he wasnt injured, which was a lot.

The Bears and the Silvertails have jumped out to the lead. C'mon guys, more votes needed to get the Maggies/Tigers game up!! Vote Vote Vote :sunglasses:
