Released by the Panthers to address a "personal matter"

If he is looking to play NRL next season I'd love him in our colours

Thoughts?

**Penrith release young star Chris Grevsmuhl from contract for personal reasons**
>
PENRITH have released talented forward Chris Grevsmuhl from his NRL contract due to personal reasons.
>
The 23-year-old has not returned to pre-season training with the Panthers, needing to take a break from the game to address a private matter.
>
Grevsmuhl still had two seasons to run on his contract but has taken an indefinite break from the game.
>
Foxsports.com.au understands the release was by way of mutual consent with the Panthers making Grevsmuhl’s welfare their top priority.
>
The Townsville product’s manger, Col Davis, was contacted for comment but he declined to give one.
>
Speculation has already started that the former South Sydney star will join the Cowboys next season, with Paul Green’s side light on forwards following the departure of James Tamou and retirement of Ben Hannant.
>
However foxsports.com.au understands football is the furthest thing from the former Australian Schoolboy representative’s mind.
>
Grevsmuhl joined the Panthers in May this year after being granted a release from the Rabbitohs, with whom he made his NRL debut for in 2015.
a
After leaving Redfern, Grevsmuhl branded former coach Michael Maguire a “mind game specialist.”
>
The Panthers are expected to release a statement confirming that the club has parted way with the back-rower.
>
While the loss of Grevsmuhl is a blow for the club ahead of season 2017, they aren’t short of talent on their roster.
>
The departure has opened up a place in the top 17 for the likes of Moses Leota, Leilani Latu or new recruit Tim Browne to claim.

For sure..if it doesn't work out we could always release him…

He has left 2 clubs now because of "problems" in a very short space of time.So a big no from me because he will probably do it again until he sorts himself out

Had had some really good games at Souths. I remember one where he tore Manly apart. Plays in a position we need.
However I have no idea where his head is at, maybe he needs time away from the game like Jamal did.

He's from Townsville so expect him to be at the cowboys, but unfortunately looks a big risk due to personal issues going on.

if he nth qld boy its tough for those boys to live in Sydney another world for them no wonder he didn't last in redfern . he will prob go up and kill it .
its like when we bring the keebra park boys down and they live in Sydney I couldn't do I moved out of Sydney 5yrs ago and cant handle going back to the traffic

Be nice , but not likely for a variety of reasons

Cowboys might need to release someone for 2018 , that might be who we might need to focus on

For every action , there needs to be a reaction , we need to start reacting on the player market

I've lived in Sydney my whole life, moved up the hill four months ago and I can't handle Sydney anymore.

Same here , hate going back to Brisbane these days

always looked a likely type. runs those tough lines and a solid defender. probably a year ahead of aloiai in development. id take him here but dont expect it to happen.

Released on ''compassionate grounds''. Doesn't scream to me that he'll turn around and sign with another Sydney club.

Seems like a bit of a goose TBH, the way he came out and slagged off Maguire because he wasn't getting a game at Souths. Didn't we just offload a bloke with similar personality traits???? Hardly want another one and another soap opera.

Cowboys can have him, and we can sign Coen Hess… Sounds Fair!

Hess can't tackle so he fits the mould of a Wests Tiger…

I think the NRL are opening themselves up in Dangerous Territory by allowing Contracts to be broken.

Not for 1 minute am I suggesting that there isn't players out there with " Personal Matters " away from football that are breaking Contracts to accommodate such matters.

However take Parramatta for example they allow Keiron Foran to break up his contract due to issue's outside football, they had to offload player's such as Nathan Peats and Junior Paulo but that was due to Salary Cap breaches but had Foran gone before they could of potentially not had lost either of them…In the end they had no choice but Foran now will be in Warriors colours come Round 1 next year, is that fair? Some will say sucked in cause Parra broke some Salary Cap Rules.

Will Clubs and player's use this compassionate grounds card to break contract's? Hell yeah but the NRL should enforce a 1 year away from football if you have a legitimate reason, Contract's are easily broken these Days to suit Clubs and player's when it's convenient for either party.

Not an easy solution.

Maybe a "transfer trade period" can come into play during the Season where Clubs have a period to negotiate and release players from there Contracts if both parties agree.
