Chris lawrence

He would be a good captain.

No ego and model pro.

If his form stacks up again in the back row he could see out his deal, we need some experience.

We may as well ask someone to try and earn there wage. Rather then move them all on and pay them to play against us.

To be honest with the money he is supposedly on he is overpaid, but just like Robbie it is not his fault and he is entitled to it.if he stays at the club in 2017 for 350k i would be happy but he is not worth any more than that(average backrower)As far as captain is concerned i would go with dene for next year and assess at the end of the year if Robbie is not here next year

Love to see Lawrence captain and groom Teddy or Moses to take over in a few years.

Totally agree,Chris would definatley have the respect of the playing group,he would be a great captain.
I think it would also take his game to another level. He needs to be re-negotiated,re-signed and given the keys.

Chris would be an ideal candidate for the Captaincy,he knows and understands the game,he has made an exemplary transition to the backrow and his game has really stepped up since the move..A true leader by example, overcome horrendous injuries and still give your very best in another position…

People think ohhh a player is getting 700k this season.
\
\
That isn't true, what people don't consider is that if a player signs a 4yr deal and over the year he for arguments sake gets 150k, 150k, 200k & 700k = 1.2mil, average per year 300k.

A player has the right to refuse how the contract is drawn up but at the same time they often just look at the end figure, it's only the clubs fault for putting these figures so heavily into the last year of a contract.

Of course the players aren't worth per season their last season salary, however they are worth the lifetime of their contract.

To me what is happening will send a very clear picture to players, sign back ended contracts at your own risk as don't expect to be playing at the club you what too if you sign the dotted line

It's a dangerous punt to play that game and the Wests Tigers are losing a lot of players and money because of the punt.

Exactly MT.

The argument goes directly to Farah as well. If the guy is really on $950K for the next two years, many supporters say "he's not worth that kind of moneynow, his age and the form he is in".

No he probably isn't worth $950K right this very moment, but how much were we paying him the previous 2 seasons? It's confirmed as a back-ended contract, so it's less than what he is on now.

Imagine if your employer tried to pull this stunt on you.

Well considering we won't simply be handing out heavily backended contracts to every player on our roster anymore you'd think that wouldn't be an issue moving forwards. There might be no more than 1-2 players backended at any time, and even then probably only in emergency situations.

Once we started handing out back ended deals to all our mid-high range players we were screwed. Either we slowly deal with it, or we take the rip the bandaid off solution.

But yes Lawrence would be an ideal captain. He's the longest serving player at the club after Robbie, and is still young enough to help lead the team for a while yet. Just an honest toiler who always puts in 100%, Woodsy is still a bit much of a larrikan to be captain, for the moment.

I'm not 100% on it but I believe from what was stated here a while ago that Teddys contracted is also backdated, the halves are also backdated until they get their 600,000 with their option. Don't know about Woods, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is too.

Both Lawrence and Halatau will be at the club next year….
- It's Rd 25, If they were going anywhere we'd have heard by now.

Halatau doesn't have a contract. He definitely could be gone. I would definitely sign him.

Agree 100%, this is the player you want leading a club.

Cruelled by injury, had to reinvent himself and has not disappointed. Well spoken and never embroiled in controversy.

Have to admire someone who has transformed themself like Lawrence has. I wouldn't be surprised to see Moses captain in the future but Lawrence would be a very good choice at this point in time encouraging the players to do as his did not as he said ie lead by example.

I wrote him off and have become a convert. He's doing a great job and I'm happy to say I was wrong. If we keep him he's the obvious choice as ©

Difference between Lawrence and Farah is we have a good hooking option ready to take over Farah. Chris is our best backrower and the cupboard is otherwise fairly bare.

Imho, our best 2nd rower is Taupau, and the only WT 2nd rower that would be picked by any NRl club. Unfortunately, Lawrence while he was much better than at center, is still too far from the best NRL 2nd rowers.

Rowdy has shown a great professional attitude in his quest to hold a spot in the team, this has been one of the highlights for me this season ,the transition to the forwards has been amazing no easy task. Chris truely has shown me in his manner and professionalism that he would be the obvious choice for captaincy next season .The coach asked him and needed a transition for him to remain in the team so Chris bit the bullet and stepped up to the plate at the request of the coach a team player this is what a true captains qualities are.
