Totally agree,Chris would definatley have the respect of the playing group,he would be a great captain.
I think it would also take his game to another level. He needs to be re-negotiated,re-signed and given the keys.

That isn't true, what people don't consider is that if a player signs a 4yr deal and over the year he for arguments sake gets 150k, 150k, 200k & 700k = 1.2mil, average per year 300k.
A player has the right to refuse how the contract is drawn up but at the same time they often just look at the end figure, it's only the clubs fault for putting these figures so heavily into the last year of a contract.
Of course the players aren't worth per season their last season salary, however they are worth the lifetime of their contract.
To me what is happening will send a very clear picture to players, sign back ended contracts at your own risk as don't expect to be playing at the club you what too if you sign the dotted line
It's a dangerous punt to play that game and the Wests Tigers are losing a lot of players and money because of the punt.

Well considering we won't simply be handing out heavily backended contracts to every player on our roster anymore you'd think that wouldn't be an issue moving forwards. There might be no more than 1-2 players backended at any time, and even then probably only in emergency situations.
Once we started handing out back ended deals to all our mid-high range players we were screwed. Either we slowly deal with it, or we take the rip the bandaid off solution.
But yes Lawrence would be an ideal captain. He's the longest serving player at the club after Robbie, and is still young enough to help lead the team for a while yet. Just an honest toiler who always puts in 100%, Woodsy is still a bit much of a larrikan to be captain, for the moment.

Agree 100%, this is the player you want leading a club.
Cruelled by injury, had to reinvent himself and has not disappointed. Well spoken and never embroiled in controversy.
