Chris McQueen signs - Official

We need to sign another second rower pronto!

We needed another second rower in either case but we can't go in with McQueen under a cloud, Lawrence always injured and ET as edge backrowers.
We have to get a big lock for ET to play wide on the right and another edge forward as McQueen may be a bench player with this injury. Not to mention another prop as Lawrence went to the Titans, Boyle staying at GC and Vete staying at Warriors.

Agree with this, but stocks are very thin, there is no quality left on the market - Tagatese maybe? He's a big unit, but who else? Perhaps Marsters can switch to the forwards also.

There are a few left Paasi, B Thompson, Taga would add some impact. Lattimore, Rochow, Lillyman, Terepo would be depth players. Tigers are better off waiting for te cap squeeze it looks like.

Geo, how does that go if McQueen is unable to play anymore? with his contract?

Saw headlines this morning on Fox News that Chris McQueen has been forced to hang up his boots early, due to his neck injury. Is that hang up boots early for this season … or career ?? Anyone up on the Gold Coast got any more news regarding this .. ??

The club certainly would be concerned about this news….it seems some desperation by McQueen in getting the operation done immediately to try extending his career. I would say being 30 yrs old and in the forwards a speedy and successful outcome would be slim imo.Probable should hang the boots up and enjoy life ,no use destroying the remaining part of your life with such a serious injury and that important part of the body.

I wish him well but there would be massive concerns at the moment. If it dosent work out hopefully we wont have to have him on our cap.
We dont need another Ballin

Chris McQueen is having this surgery now to ensure he is right for the start of pre-season with us. He has been in contact with Both Cleary & Pascoe ensuring them that he will be fine in time. Could of played on with needles for the last few rounds but since Titans are out of the finals race he's opted to go for the operation to be ready for us.

McQueen's career has finished with the Titans, he won't play for them again. Other players who have had similar injuries have recovered (James McManus for one), it just takes some time.

Hopefully McQ will be good for preseason.

*If you use Twitter, check out NRL PHYSIO, that person has pretty accurate (seemingly) information on player's injuries. That's where I heard above^.

All good except McManus played on the wing and made 3 tackles a game , he is signed so we all should be positive but the nerve damage to Dywer should at least be some indication especially for a forward ,am looking forward to McQueen staring for us next season

Hopefully Clearly and co are looking out for Plan Bs just in case. McQueen signed on for a 3 year deal, so there's no point rushing him back, we just need him TO come back. 😛ray:

How serious is it really?
If you believe the comment that he could have kept playing by having needles each week if the Titans were still a chance at the semis.

Club doctors have a duty of care and would have stopped him going on the field if it was really that bad.

Mountain out of a mulhill. Neck injuries aren't automatic career enders. Ask Brent Tate, ask Sam Burgess. James Graham has had neck problems this year. I wouldn't read much into it.

Very concerned that there is a long term contract and an apparent long term injury

Insurance would cover anything permanent

This is the near-million dollar question. Does anyone know for sure whether it is a pre-existing injury or not? If he had this neck problem when we signed him it would surely be a case of "buyer beware" and WT would be left to pay him out of our salary cap if he is forced to retire.
A massive issue if McQueen doesn't fully recover IMO.

Not pre-existing in that it happened this year after McQueen had signed…Insurance Companies seem to find a way tho..

Hopefully McQueen makes a full recovery anyway...

Signing any player is a risk..look at Rory Kostjasyn suffered a career ending injury in pre-season training without even lacing on a boot in anger for the Knights..
