Each club is required to submit 29 of their official 30-man playing squad to the NRL by March 1\. The final spot in theses rosters can remain free up until June 30.

With Suli departing the squad is at 28, which leaves only a few days to add the 29th player.

Someone mentioned we can still count siro as we're paying a small part of his wage still.

Sirro was such a passenger at our club that it could be argued that he was never a part of our actual playing group when he was here anyway.

Its a nice luxury to have players who are adapt to playing NRL, but once the season starts I dont think week to week form will result in many team changes. Ivan applies alot of practical intelligence in the way he operates, so therefore knows less changes to structures will deliver a more consistent result in the players he trusts.

The depth isnt there so much for 'poor form', its there to cover injuries first and foremost. A huge drop in form should result in players being promoted, but those players MUST be setting State Cup on fire to warrant a change. In essence, the players who are in State Cup need to be working harder than those already in NRL.

I don't think that's true. That we can count him, I mean.

I believe the Top 30 would normally be seen as sufficient now to cover injuries? I'm not sure about the rules for calling up the 4 development players.

I went looking for players used data; couldn't find 2017 but in 2016 only 5 teams used more than 30 players (Warriors 34, Souths 31, Manly 31, Roosters 31, Knights 35). And if you note 3 of those teams only used 1 extra, which should be reasonable enough to apply to NRL for. Obviously this doesn't account for multiple injuries in the same position.

Tigers used 30.

Also of note is every club that used 30 or more players finished outside the Top 8\. In fact only Saints (29) and Parra (28) used less than 30 players and failed to make the Top 8\. The av # players used by clubs in the Top 8 was 26.5.

Safe to say we won't see liddle over the opening rounds then..

WT seem to have the slowest-healing humans on Earth. Blokes have returned to footy after quadruple amputations quicker than Liddle has recovered from a crook shoulder…........

And let's not forget Keithy whose sore toe used to sideline him for years at a time.

And Timmy Moltzen who pulled out of games mid-warm up due to getting his monthlies.

WT aka: The Cotton Wool Kids. :deadhorse:

Negative bias; you forget the equivalent # of players who came back to fitness on time or early. There's always 1 or 2 players at every club every year who have indefinite prognoses, or who have a long-term injury that might (but doesn't) heal within the course of the season.

I really think we should try outside the square and use every player + extras we have at our disposal on a rotation basis..

Keefy had a FIFO Clause in his contract. 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off.

I think we've forgotten what its like to see real competition for the spots here on the forum.

Gone are the days of players having mortgages on positions, and thinly veiled "It's Sheenius, expect changes" posts becoming the norm.

My first reaction funnily enough was to feel the Tui has been jilted, and to ask "OMFG whats going on?!" however now I realise this is what it's like following a professional rugby league team who actually are run by a coach, and not the players.

Exciting stuff ahead. :sign: Bring on the season!!

This is yet another REBUILDING YEAR.

In my head we are a bottom 4 side still with a number of sides improving , I think we should be happy with being the Hard team to play each week that really makes you earn that victory.

Everything this year is about 2019 and beyond.

There is depth….and then theres the 2nd tier cap

2nd tier cap abolished with squads moving to 30 + Development players..exemptions will still need to be sought if you want to play a player outside your NRL squad..

Im glad someones up to date because I certainly isnt

$60K
Anyone can earn TPA's as long as NRL intellectual property is not used.

I thought they were referring to Bayley Sironen actually. I believe he was on a second-tier deal that was upgraded??

The Cowboys definitely used their 30 man roster and more in 2017 as they had to continue to play Feldt from memory despite him having hammy issues

That's what I thought. Curtis is but a distant memory.

And don’t worry about defence just attack….would seem just as effective

I think by naming Gamble in both teams Cleary is sending a signal he's knocking on the door of FG..however he will start in the lower grade IMO unless he does something extremely freakish against the sharks!

From what I saw vs Cows, Gamble is our X Factor. Solid build, but mobile. He got to the line in a determined fashion. Tui just looked fat. He might even play in the forwards this year!
Can't wait for the Sharks game tonight. Cheers!
