You’re delusional if you would go with anyone but one of the names already mentioned. You can make a case for all of them.

Jason Taylor 😉

Bellamy or Bennett. Bennett the best man manager of all time, always gets the best out of his blokes but the systems Bellamy has set up and the way he gets almost anyone to work in it is genius.

Bennett has to be the most overated ever. Only is where the money is an leaves clubs wrecked for years.

Players love him because he let's them do whatever they want......And they soon implode.

Arthur Holloway. 8 premiership as coach and also played 10 Tests at halfback at 10 stone..

The world existed before the modern era.

Sorry about this being off topic but whilst looking at coaching history I stumbled across Western Suburbs Magpies home ground in 1955, 77-83 85-86 was actually Leichhardt Oval.
Why was this so, redevelopment of Lidcombe Oval? I'm Balmain boy so don't know.
Just for Wests nostalgia, Tom McMahon 75% and don't forget Roy Masters cameo 59.6%.
I'm just quoting this stuff so apologies if wrong :]

That's right, best with Balmain 78%.
Silly question but your a magpie supporter right? If you are can you fill us in about my previous Leichhardt oval question? Cheers buddy.

Well started following Wests as an 8 yo in 1975 and I can assure you they never used LO as a home ground in my years.

They were at Lidcombe from 68 till 86 then Cambelltown from 87 to 99.

As for Roy he had an outstanding record albeit without a premiership. The years 78 to 80 could have yielded 2 ( robbed in 78, players signing with other club's during a 5 match 2nd round slump when leading competition to drop to 4th in 79 and a great chance in 80 when we ran into the semis with injuries and suspensions to cruel us) and of course Saints were the best team in 85 so Roy the revolutionary could have had 2 or 3 but the League didn't want Wests winning one and even at Saints after Chris Masters exposed the sorts in 83 Roy was a marked man.

But Pony Holloway 8 premierships does stand out.

Bennett has often benefited from working for clubs with a war chest in their salary cap when he signs on or good private backers.

I think he’s a great mentor but not the best coach. He does surround himself with good assistants.

He had a dream run of players at the Broncos. Bought some decent players into the Dragons during a transition period. The Knights he had a war chest and buggered the Knights for years, similar to Hasler at the Dogs. South’s he inherited a great side and now he’ll have an empty cap at the Dolphins. He seems to buy a premiership but leaves some salary cap issues once he leaves or take on a team with plenty of money or we’ll established as a contender.

Robinson, for mine is the smartest footy coach I’ve seen. Absolute student of the game and is well known for his communication and footy IQ.

Bellamy is the best club footy coach ever in my books. His ability to transform an average player into a consistent and quality player is second to none. His systems work and he gets everyone on board to do their job. This is something I think Madge is trying to instil here.

I think one player who would’ve been an amazing coach was Sterlo.

Daniel Anderson was another good coach in his day.

Am another who really rated Daniel Anderson with the tactics he introduced. Was wasted really.

And with Bennett think that he should have won a competition at Souths. Walked into a super side primed with finals experience. I wish I coached them lol.

And let's not forget he would not even have a Saints premiership if Jeremy Smith got penalised for breaking Tequiri 's ribs at 12 all against us in the PF.

Awesome post mate.
I'd love to have a beer with you one day and talk about stuff like that, I've got heaps of yarns too.
Could you go to http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/teams and scroll down to Western Suburbs then look at home venues.
Can you make sense of that where it says L Oval? Could that be where they chose their home games played at other venues for whatever reason?

Sorry magpie magic, don't worry, I worked it out.
Its all the venues they've played at.
I can't believe I'm that dumb, doh!
Blame it on the beer.

Someone said you could make the case for any of them but at the same time, you could make a case against them too,.as others already have.

Robinson is still a bit young and inexperienced. Maybe in 5 or 6 years, we can talk about him if he's enjoyed the same success then.

Hasler has been left out because of his recent failures but before his last seasoj with the Dogs, he was my favourite. What he achieved at Manly over a long period was without breaking the cap (Bellamy) and without a lot of $$$ (Robinson, Bennett). And now in his second year back at Manly, he got them to top 4. If he gets them to a premiership, he should be back in contention. To me, there are less * with Hasler than others, so I hope he comes out with a couple more premierships.

But currently, I can't split Bennett and Bellamy. Both have a freakish record.

Yep I know mate, blame it on pale ale.
I was looking at that link I quoted for their home venues and interpreted it wrong.

It is a catch22 situation. I mentioned the clubs cheating the cap historically but there are issues at play.

Once there is a culture of success and a coach with a reputation for being able to develop or get the best out of players (leading to a bigger pay day) players will come to that club for less money.

Given the complete lack of success and that our last 3 coaches have not been known for their people management skills, it is no surprise that the club cannot recruit or retain players.

All good.

I also always get intrigued by history and RL history sporting grounds and the like.

Just the idea a big game took place in the past with only a little detail makes it legendary.

Sheens. The only coach to win the premiership significantly under the cap with club politics in play.

The only way Bellamy, Robinson or Bennett would be able to shine in my eyes is to go to a struggling club and lift it out of the gutter. I'll give maguire one thing, he has shown more guts in that respect.
