Con of the decade

Now Moses is also 20 and many question his defence and attack but he has as good attacking stats as Thurston at the time, better then Hunt, DCE wasn't playing FG. What is also interesting is that Thurston was missing not just more tackles but a greater % of his tackles then Moses is now and creating less attack.

who are the great halves as young as these two in the competition? Wow! There aren't any! Kane Elgey did far less against the Broncos than our halves did and he's a year or two older than our guys.

if they're playing like this in two years then I think we'll all be disappointed. They really do need some veteran presence in the games though and I'm not sure where that's going to come from apart from Farah.

Put in some bloody decent forwards and some good outside backs for them to work with and they would shine just like other halves do when they have a decent team around them.

I think Gus hit the nail on the head when he was speaking before the game. These guys _are_ talented, but they are very young and haven't had any proper leadership, on or off the field, since coming into grade. Left to their own devices, they really are too impatient at times. They have to learn to stop pushing passes that are just not on, it kills us every time.

They get a six again count and then push it through the backline giving the winger absolutely no room to move and he ends up getting thrown over the sideline on the first tackle! That's really dumb stuff - it's like having 3 Benji's in the team (Tedesco is just as guilty of pushing these passes also).

That's a massive stretch blaming the halves for that play. Sometimes when the ball goes wide the outside men need to realise they just have to take the hit. Both Tedesco and Naqaima were to blame for passing the ball when taking the tackle was needed. How you blame the 2 men inside is beyond me.

I still think both our guys are talented, but comparing them to the equally young Broncos halves Milford and Hunt, it's chalk and cheese! I guess it comes down to the coaching and on field leadership.

Equally young? ? Come on flip, your better than that. Hunt has been around a number of years and brought along a lot slower with a lot less pressure. He had time to not only get used to NRL before having any real responsibility, but he also has something like 3 years on our halves.

Outside Teddy they are still the most likely to lay on a try or score one so I am willing to give them another year before I start ranting. What was concerning tonight was how sloppy they were with their passing, at NRL level playing in the halves you have to be able to throw a good ball and catch anything that comes your way.

Agreed. Moses has shown some nice soft hands but he just came up with some terrible passes.

Comparing Hunt to either Brooks or Moses in drawing a long bow

Compare who Hunt had around him to what Brooks or Moses have around them

Brisbane probably have at least 6 or 7 players who are better centres than who the WT's have for starters

And last week as well.

Did Milford play in the same u/ 20s comp as Brooks or Moses ?

He played in the 2012 GF against our lot (Miller and Mulcahy in the halves).
Not sure how much NRL or 20s he played the next year - seem to remember him playing a lot of NRL even as far back as 2013.

Yep, he played NYC after the SG Ball GF and mainly NRL from 2013.

By all reports, they are overpaid for where they are at in the careers…. I have very high interest and belief they will both be great players.

Mitchell will play a lot of Rep Footy in 2-3 years and Luke is destined to play 250-300 games in the NRL.

It will happen!

Is the fact that we pay well above the odds for junior talent we have developed led to the Salary Cap problems we have? Seriously our junior talent is good but if you overpay them you end up with a squad that sees Kyle Lovett start in the second row (he would not make another sides top 25).

I hope you are right Tiger Watto about their careers but our salary cap mess starts mostly with us overpaying the likes of Tedesco (he is worth every cent), Sironen, Nofo, Simona, Brooks and Moses. Most clubs pay their junior talent less at the start of their careers and more when they become established. If these players kick on I would hate to see what we would have to pay to keep them at the club.

We need to sign next year the best centre we can find and another Garth Ellis type backrower.

The problem is we are a goodie goodie Club .

I don't condone one bit Blake Ferguson's behaviour , but he is a gun centre and one that maybe with a stint with counselling we could of got and he would of been cheap at the time as well cause he's Career is shot just like Dugan was at the time .

The bottom line is the NRL register there Contracts with other Clubs and Clubs like Raiders protecting there image and the image of the game lose out cause they sack them for only them to play for other Clubs . People will disapprove a player like Ferguson joining there Club cause of his behaviour and rightly so but the NRL register there Contracts .

Anyway sorry for going of topic but with us not having much money and Salary Cap issues maybe these are the type of players we have to look at if an opportunity arises , give them a stint of Counselling and sign them on a cheap Contract.

I do not think I have ever seen 2 individuals promise so much and deliver nothing weekly ..blame ever one around them all you like but wow they show nothing!

I would think they do show nothing if you look with negative eyes to start with.

Interesting point.
We've obviously decided to build from within, but the main reason clubs do this is because it's cheaper than going out and buying successful players once they've made it.
Thing is, we all know the salary cap is not a level playing field, and so other cashed up clubs are able to make massive offers for our kids, hence pushing their asking price up for us to re-sign them. In some ways it's become a false economy - you're paying for potential that may never eventuate, and not getting a discount in doing so.
When you do it en masse like WT have done, you're just asking for trouble IMO.
