@happy_tiger Interesting. A couple of questions if I Could;
a) are you employed on a contract
b) have you withdrawn your labour
c) are you or your representatives discussing opportunities with other employers.
Unless the answer to these questions is yes, your circumstances are very different.

Well if you want to class a contract and salary as the same YES to all 3

I haven't withdrawn my labour .....but said I will drop it to the next lowest management's level

Dangerous game mate

Not really .....they saw it as about 3 months ago when I came back from surgery issues

Plus I'm not silly , I have kept a diary of every shift I have worked for almost 23 years

Makes some very interesting reading ......

I don't get the anger at Matterson

If I think I worth more than I am being paid or can get better conditions at another work place (whether I'm under contract or not ) I can approach my employer to try and get a better deal

If your smart you'll employ tactics to make them assume it's real whatever the threat may be

If your employer won't then meet your reasonable demands then you have the RIGHT (rightly or wrongly) to play your cards and see how they fall

I'm literally doing it at the moment at my job

Does it make me evil ......no ...just playing the game ...they get their fair slice of my hindquarters extra every week .....I realize I'm worth more ....they know they can't lose me without the business going backwards in some way

Only problem is employer did entertain and want to discuss increase and extension, but were shut down immediately. I’m betting your not sulking using Dr Certificates to not turn up anymore either.

Did Matterson sign expecting to be training after the club was knocked out of finals contention ??

Ben Ikin was right , this doesn't happen at bigger club's because bigger club's don't sack coaches every time their contract expires or even before it expires

They don't have coaches leave mid contract .....

Again many's anger is being pointed in the wrong direction ......the club has created this problem by letting Cleary go ......I bet Matterson is happy if Cleary was still here

And as I have said many times if we had asked Cleary the right questions in the interview process we would have known that Father wanted to coach son and son didn't want to come to the Tigers

I can't agree Happy. This is about $ and his manager looking for a bigger pay day for both of them. I do agree this would not happen at a bigger club because the consequences for the manager and player would be greater. I say both have never worked in organisations where training is done everyday because if it is not, you and your mates will make mistakes and lives will be lost, There is also an unsaid motto of not letting your mates down. Matterson has badly let down his team mates., I guess I belong to another generation..

No mate. Was referring to Antonio Brown who threatened to punch his GM so he could get traded out of a crappy team.

He's now playing for the Super Bowl favorites.

Was. Sacked this morn.

Wests Tigers are prepared cut their losses with Ryan Matterson as rival clubs get ready to pounce on the rising star.

Matterson, who was granted leave earlier this week leave due to "personal reasons", has now set off on holidays as his teammates continue to train at the club's Concord Oval base until the end of the finals.

Matterson still has two years left on his deal with the Tigers - which is worth a combined $775,000 over the next two years - but will be granted permission to negotiate with other clubs in the coming days.

Sources have told the Herald tensions between Matterson and the Tigers are now at the point where the club are preparing to start next year without the 24-year-old - who was arguably their best player this season.

Where Matterson lands next season remains to be seen. He was linked to the Titans on Friday - largely due to his connection with new coach Justin Holbrook during their time together at the Roosters - but Gold Coast have not been approached by the Tigers nor Matterson's management.

The Titans are also eager to keep rising star AJ Brimson, who was raised as a player the Tigers would entertain swapping Matterson for should he decide to head north of the border.

Gold Coast's reluctance to let Brimson go could hinder their chances of luring Matterson north if they do eventually throw their hat in the ring as the Tigers are eager to add backs to their current list.

While they are happy with the progress of David Nofoaluma and Corey Thompson, the club have identified the need for backs with the kind of "X-factor" Brimson has in spades.

If the Titans don't come to the negotiating table, Parramatta are watching the Matterson situation with keen interest despite coach Brad Arthur and the rising star falling out when he was last at the club.

I’m in the same situation where the company can’t afford to lose me, but the only problem is I only have q year until I retire so I’m screwed as far as getting more money

Very well said @Thaiger: sensible and to the point without putting anyone down.
More of this is needed on this Forum.
I don't think anyone appreciates a dill saying "I'll fight to the death for my point of view".

Can't have your cake and eat it , unfortunately the clubs , nrl , player manager , rlps, players are all to blame and it's the fans that have to put up with this entire shit
I can't blame Matterson , just look at the tigers and we don't even have to look at other clubs
They have sacked coaches
Remember Robbie Farah , because the coach didn't like him , he was told he was going to be in reserves , to force him to leave before his contract was up
Reynolds , packer , Matulino and others told free to negotiate . Players doing same as clubs

The club should do what you he Rorters done , x player manager screwed us , we won't deal with any of your players in future and won't negotiate with you . Start freezing the player managers that play these games and this crap won't keep happening

For the first time ever I’m seriously considering not renewing my membership. We sign a bloke on unders for a change and when he packs a sad we help him pack his suitcase. Brett Read is right. Make Matterson play out his contract and he can do what he likes after that. If he doesn’t perform play him in the Reggies and he can watch his next contract value decline.

Things can’t go on like this. We get stuck with the bad end on both sides - having to pay overs underperforming players but not getting any benefit from smart signings. And so long as we roll over, agents and other clubs know they can do whatever they want. Like the look of a Tigers player? Just browbeat them into releasing them (hi Marty Tapau). Like our coach? Just get him to come to you and arrange the details with WT later. Think your client is underpaid? Just get him to spit the dummy and skip out of season training. The club will rollover soon enough....

Letting RM walk reinforces a dangerous precedent, one we actually already set when we let Mitchell Moses go to Parramatta. If we force him to stay, he'll stink up the joint until the relationship becomes untenable. Remember when Cleary didn't want to release Moses? There was an article every day about how we're not treating him right and that WT are intentionally bullying him, being detremental to his mental health, etc. That's the future we face with Matterson at the club.

Yes Politis won't deal with the manager but the Rorters signed the player anyway.

Spot on Russ, uncle Nick refused to deal with Isaac Moses, but he wanted Teddy so he dealt with him, uncle Nick and the chooks are full of it

Simple.
If we can't swap for a better player then tell him he'll be playing reserve grade for 2 years.
Interesting to see how much he'll get offered then, if anything ... just ask Packer.
Pretty hard to break into Origin from there too, so he can say goodbye to that dream.

I would be trying to let him go, but like others said, I would want something in return, and the possibility of someone taking packer or reynolds.

I can cop Woods, Tedesco etc leaving at the end of their contracts, but if Matto wants out then he is just as bad as Cleary and Moses. I hope Ryan realises hes not the only quality player in a weak side ever. Look at Josh Jackson carrying the dogs throughout all this.

We absolutely cannot come out of this with simply Matterson released....if so, we will be a complete joke.

We need to aggressively shop him as part of a package deal....a club can have him, but they take Josh or Packer with him.

Anything else will be farcical. If we simply say 'okay, stop sooking, you can leave!' we may as well just give up.

This has to be a pivotal moment in the club's history and we have to come out of it with a deal that benefits us.

Anybody remember this from the start of the year?

Maybe Mattos role model is Mitch Moses

Also from an outsider view since Go has left the admin side of the club on the surface looks to have lost its spine.

Lets hope they can find it during this issue.
