2018 - The coach with 2 years to run on contract

2019 - Possibly Matterson with 2 years left on contract

Not a good look for a club losing its coach with 2 years left on his contract, followed by the club’s best player the following year with 2 years on his. I know the club wasn’t to blame with Cleary, but questions need to be answered if Matterson gets a release. Grow a backbone for Christs sake.

He needs some time to sort himself out. Go away and have a think about what he wants to do. If he wants to retire and find a new career, that is fine, but he will not be playing league for anyone for the next 2 years.

Introduce Brett Hodgson to provide advice and counsel him, because if he does not want to put in then they will have a very close relationship in Canterbury cup over the next 2 years. If he doesn't turn up at all he does not get paid.

His salary is about equal to the cap fine that we are wearing, we can absorb him playing reserve grade for 2 years.

If the club agrees to a release we are a laughing stock and Maguire's tenure is over before it begins, because either it is accepted that he cannot manage people or every player who has a disagreement has seen the get out of jail free card Matterson has just played.

I’m doing the same. I sent an email to WestsTigers AFTER I rolled over my membership stating how disenfranchised I felt as a member. I listed many ways that I felt the club showed no respect for members. I also listed ways to turn members into advocates for the club. I received back an explanation that simply justified everything they did.
Now, yet again, we are in the middle of a crap fight. This garbage never happens at Melbourne or roosters.
I’ll always support the club and I’ll watch every game but I’m showing my disappointment by pulling my membership. Sad thing, the club couldn’t care less.

It like Blake austin all over again. Get a player no one wants. Comes to an average club. Playing better than others in the club and want more money than he signed for. So simple tell him play well next year and we will upgrade your final year. Otherwise play reserve grade for 2 years and see what you are worth then!

It comes down to poor management at the top. We should not rely on coaches to run the club into the ground for short term benefit. What Cleary has done to this club has not been reported on closely enough. He overpaid ageing players to an extreme amount and then crated a problem in retaining, upgrading or signing new players. Players that outperform their contracts look at others on huge coin and want an upgrade. To get one they play games for a release. In the process denigrating the club on the way out.

This does not excuse what’s playing out here the club can’t do anything in this situation either play in reserve grade or negotiate a player swap.
What will a players value be if they play 2 years in reserve grade. Suggest it will cost them in the long run. If a trade can work then you do it.

The first thing the Tigers need to learn is we must stick with and back the coach. Maguire has to be signed for longer so he has the authority to see out the complete fitting of this soft club.
