Confirmed: Matulino to hang up boots after career ending knee injury.

@MAGPIES1963 Really? Looking at that objectively for just one moment, that was Robbie's dream to play in that game, he wanted that so badly, Madge did Robbie a favour. Madge was swayed by emotion there, he made a mistake in letting Robbie play, in letting emotion affect his decisions.

Trying to say Mats is fit in the future (obviously going off the medical staff's direction) after trying to pass him off as unable to ever play again due to an injury he sustained, is completely different, and could make him look like an absolute liar with no credibility.

The two things are so far apart, maybe you were making a joke??

Remind me, how did Souths get Inglis off their cap for his last year? Wasn't it they asked nicely and NRL said yes? Can't remember what the official story was...

That is the official story. The unofficial story that is yet to be confirmed but has been widely circulated is Greggy and Toddy got on the turps together and hit the water in Gregs speedboat that he only just realised was sitting in his garage. The outing and drinks was to celebrate Greggy getting off his drink driving charge thanks to Toddys recommendation. Greg got Toddy to steer while he ( Greggy ) got on the rope to do a bit of skiing ( never a good idea when on the turps ). Well Toddy being the larrikin that he is thought he would do a few burnouts while Greggy was on the rope. Lo and behold poor Greg comes a cropper as he hadn't used the boat before because he didn't even know he owned one. Landed smack fair on his shoulder. Both decided to keep it quiet and Greg went back to training and playing but as we know poor ole Greg was as lame as Cameron Smiths excuses for not knowing that he actually signed 2 contracts to play for the one team. Well Greg told Bennett what had happened and he hit the roof and was straight on the phone to Toddy. Well Toddy told him he had no time to sort through such rubbish as he had Cameron Smiths 400 game testimonial to sort out and had to find a suitable diamond ring for his missus. Bennett saw his window of opportunity and put it on Toddy straight away that Greggy should retire as medically unfit and the pride of the league should be granted and exemption on his $million a year salary. Toddy wasn't too happy but as he pointed out he had other more important matters to tend to - not the least being how to extend Justin Pascoes suspension. The pressure on Toddy was enormous and no one can denigrate his decision to cave in to Bennetts request - I mean it's the pride of the league - what else is one to do.

because it is Inglis and he consistently needs smoke blown up his freckle because it's all he has ever known and expected

Inglis retired himself and opted not to be paid out the remainder of his salary. There was no medical payout required by the NRL or insurance.

Just a well paid "job" at the bunnies with a reported 1m cap relief at the club and no action by Greenberg.Amazing what some clubs can do with zero repercussions

Player welfare my friend, player welfare...................... for some.

Shame he was injured and could not play to his full potential here, because he is a strong prop with strong defence and a quick play the ball.

Best of luck in your future Ben

In the end it was as much mental as physical in the end ...and the Inglis issues were far more prominent ....he was having knee issues for years dating back to 2014

Matulino 1st knee issues were 2017

Amazing how a player on a million bucks can retire, chose to have his playing contract cancelled and not get paid a cent so that the club frees up that cap space, and then signs a non-playing contract worth 4-500k a year. Blatant cheating, yet within NRL's rulebook.

I certainly hope we do the same thing if Ben's MR is not approved. He retires, annuls his contract, then gets a job in our player welfare team on a couple hundred k.

He played 23 of 24 games last year and the first 14 rounds this year before being injured. Most guys with shot knees don’t get through 38 NRL games only missing 1 game.

There wouldn’t be a player in the game that hasn’t had some sort of knee issue at some stage.

You are not wrong, we need Big Ben to go get on the turps, get behind the wheel and get caught speeding whilst over the limit. Then Toddy will write you a reference, and everything is hunky dory, the cap money frees up, and you get him a job at the club doing diddly squat

I'm overseas atm....I'm only hearing what's on the forum, has the Nrl granted his medical retirement as yet

No word at the moment

@Needaname Isn't this like we us offering Farah deal when he retires ? NRL just turns a blind eye because NO player and I repeat NO player just gives up a million dollars for the love of the club.... You can bet you bottom dollar he is getting this money back somehow..
I can only assume the NRL will decline us on Matulino because they are taking a hard stance.. Sorry but the NRL is so corrupt and needs a massive overhaul

Latest news is Greenberg bought his wife a diamond ring so maybe it will be ok
Hang on, that would be crazy. That would never happen hey...

I was only thinking yesterday listening to the GF that should WT be refused a medical retirement for Matulino because it was pre-existing when signed that Pascoe could be in a world of trouble over his job. As CEO and final clearance signature on contracts he should have ensured medical clearances were undertaken before Mats was recruited. If the rumour is true that medical clearances were not sought by Cleary and Egan during recruitment negotiations and they went ahead and offered such a high value contract, it was Pascoe's duty to ensure normal practices were adhered to. If he went along with allegedly not worrying about a medical clearance, and this blows up in our face, I think his position as CEO becomes untenable.

Last week we didnt hear about the result of NRL HQ pontifications, this week we should since the GF is now done and dusted and any negative decision on WT appeal will take the focus off referee howlers in GF.

Yes, conspiracy theory based on total mistrust of NRL HQ and its brains trust.

@2005magic don’t see how doing a medical or not applies in this situation , he played basically 38 games straight after he signed

Then if you trying to insuiuate that he was playing injured, then the bigger issue is how was he allowed to play so many games by 2 coaches
