Confirmed: Matulino to hang up boots after career ending knee injury.

I dont like our chances of the NRL doing us any favours, unlike Inglis and his persistent knee injuries that got rubber stamped asap because it wasnt us.

It's a shame for Matulino to go out this way, but his knee which is causing all the problems has been previously rebuilt and unfortunately it isn't going to get better - not to the point where he can withstand the rigours of FG.

Ben Matulino 4-5 years ago was a great signing ......

If you want to watch a movie that is the WT's in a MLB format watch Major League

Some of the comments from the coaching staff just makes me think WT's

One coach "Wish we had him 2 years ago , other coach we did , other coach 4 years ago

Inviting players to trials " board member : this guy is dead , Owner : cross him off the list then

Best hitter can't hit curves and practises voodoo

Cleveland Indians = Wests Tigers to a tee

I have watched that film over 20 times and still laugh but who is the wild thing for the Tigers?

and when Dorn says it's not in his contract to do unnecessary calisthenics and the coach promptly relieves himself on it...standard nrl contact

I hope we can medically retire Matulino. Everybody wins in that situation. Mats gets his money without having to do any work, and we free up a spot on our roster plus his salary. No bad blood is left behind.

Regardless, Ben Matulino can hold his head high. Whilst his stint here was not spectacular, I can't recall any times when you would say "he hasn't had a go". There were a few times when he made huge defensive plays, and I'm sure he passed on some good lessons to our young forwards.

Injury can cruel careers. Matulino played his hardest every week would have been one of the best props of the last decade if he was fit. Left a big hole upfront.

Back around 2011 he was considered the best prop in the competition. After they banned the shoulder charge he seemed to lose a weapon.

Game went soft. League will die in 20 years it will be back to a suburban local competition. It’s virtually unwatchable.

If anything now is a better time than any to have a super league war. A rival competition would be able to bring back the biff.

@TopTiger The foxsports reporter is not too well informed about the salaries of Benji and Lawrence. however I hope he is well informed abot the $800,00 that could be freed up due to Matulino.

Has to be embellished. I don't see Matulino on 800k. I'd have thought 600 at the absolute most. Then again, Cleary signed him so who knows.

Might be 800K over the remaining two years? Was he on until 2021 or next year?

Contracted until 2020

Maybe it would be backdated to when the injury occurred ??

Doubt it this season is done n dusted..you don't carry forward the Cap from year to year..

It's in the foxsports makes up crap department..

As far as I understand the current wording.... any cap saving can be carried forward from one year to the next.

So on a serious side of things - Does anyone actually think we will be approved for this ?
With past results and how NRL treat us I just don't see this happening unfortunately.. I think it should be approved myself as we signed him and he was playing most weeks for us until this latest injury.

He played like his first 40 matches more or less in a row after signing, maybe one missed here or there. There were no qualms about his fitness at that point so it should be granted.

This is more likely. They'll have Josh Reynolds on 1.5m soon
