Connor Watson

I like it. Some competition for spots is exactly what we need. Even Brooks will need to develop more consistency in his game.

Yep a situation we have never been in…..

:exclamation: Building up a nice squad and competition for places can only be a good thing.

We would be better served getting a secondrower if the Rona rumours are true.

That's why we bought Gamble

It's a big waste of $'s which we can use more effectively when other clubs start shedding players due to cap issues

Wouldn't he apposed to it. Having competition for positions can only be a good thing. What would his role be if he did join us? Utility?

That's so right, the last time we promised positions, it all went to poo very qiuickly and stayed there,I would have learnt from that experience. Who ever we get should get the position because he's the better player, not because he was promised it.
I hope we re still not operating that way.
If any one gets snarky because he has to earn any position. Let him go.
Otherwise all this talk lately is just that, talk.

We definitely will need more options in the fullback position. We are loosing one of the best, and he'll be hard to replace.
Although whoever is fullback in 2018, they will have a stronger team around them than Tedesco had with the WTs.
I just hope whoever is there is willing to attack the football when it's been kicked and can defend well in cover.
the new props coming can offload very well, so there will be opportunities there.

We don't need to make a play for everyone who comes on the market. That's pretty irresponsible. Its like the half a dozen wingers and centres that we've supposedly signed. We'll end up signing probably 2\. What's the fascination with Watson. Any young half who comes on in the back half of games for the Roosters is going to look like a million bucks. Has he ever turned a game? As much as some will try and convince themselves we need him, the reality is that we don't. We have our spine sorted for the next couple of years. No need to make contingency plans if Tui fails. If we're making contingency plans, why even sign him in the first place? There are other areas of greater importance that need tightening up. We need a couple outside backs, and another prop and second rower, and i will be happy.

Keep in mind Tigers haven't made a play for him recently this is coming from the Watson camp. Tigers made initial enquiries during the Moses saga but went with lolo when roosters baulked at his release.

Don't think he generally gets many minutes at all as the Roosters 14.

You'd have to think he'd get significantly more minutes as 14 with us, and that wouldn't hurt our prospects too much at all.

But he's got to serve some purpose in coming on - where is he going to play? We don't need him coming on in the halves or at fullback so he'd likely be coming on to spell the hooker. Better to have a specialist hooker on the bench if that's the case.

Now that we have Reynolds and Lolohea signed we don't have an immediate use for him or a solid opportunity to offer him. If I were him I'd be making enquiries with the Cowboys.

I just can't see why this signing would work out for either the player or WT.

Let's not forget that triple M also stated the rumour that Folau was on his way over. They were wrong then and they are probably wrong now. Watson is more likely headed to Newcastle.

Im not sure about splashing big dollars on unproven first graders. I think there would be plenty of risk in this signing. Tui is risky enough for mine…..I don't like the way he skips across the field bamboozling his own attack....reminds me of Farah, benji at his worst.

So , our Spines sorted is it, what happens if one or two of them isn't the player that we thought he was/is. As I said earlier, that's been a major part of our problems over the last few tears, no one should be promised a position , the only criteria should be form

At the moment, Brooks is still a hope more than a lock in, ( but hopefully will make it now that the walking ego has gone) LoLo is unproven At this stage.
MMKlooks like he will be there, really Reynolds is the only rock solid certainty to get ( and keep) a spot.Even if ourbig hope all come off, there is still injuries to cover. And we can't rely on the standard of backups like those we have used in the past.

Some clubs are fortunate to have had rep strength players right through their spine, and the standard never, ( or hardly ever) , drops off. Most aren't.

The last thing we need is a locked in bunch of Koala Bears again, make them earn their spot .
I wouldn't care less if Watson comes or not. But be good back up though and if he turned out to be better than our first choice . He should get the spot.
I'm sick of players being untouchable, it's killed us before.

Competition for spots is a great thing. I'd have to imagine if we signed Watson he'd be coming here to at least wear the 14 which doesn't bode well for either McIlwrick or Liddle but is outstanding for depth.

I know Football is a different game altogether but they key to Sydney FC's A-League success was having an additional first team quality player in each position. Graham Arnold had a team that was first class and had bench players all pressing for first team selection. They seldom got the chance to be picked in the first team as they only dropped one game all year and the only way they saw time was through injury.

I am not against Ivan employing this strategy.
