Connor Watson

I wonder what swayed him to Newcastle if we were supposedly offering more money. The prospect of playing five eighth I imagine, I'm pretty sure he stated somewhere that it was his favourite position and he won't get that here with Reynolds coming.

Even if he were to play fullback, Lolohea then would be the odd man out. Is it worth paying him 400-450k to play reserve grade. It's good to have depth and competition for spots, but that's a bit dumb and something people would chastise previous admin over.

I doubt we offered the most money. I reckon we offered a really good contract and Newcastle at least matched that. He is a definite starter for Newcastle whereas for us he was going to be fighting for a spot.

You know whats interesting

Foxsports, Daily Telegraph, et al decided to dump on us when we were rumoured to be signing Watson, saying we had screwed over Tui Lolohea…

Reckon they'll say "Our bad, sorry lads" ? Oh hell no.

Reckon they'll accuse the knights of screwing over Kaylan Ponga, or Nathan Ross?

Hell no.

Knights are signing some real bad contracts I believe.
SKD, Guerra and Moga are all poor signings. Ponga and Watson have big potential but both project players.
I do like Ese ESE if they get him from the broncos.
Losing Gagai and Korbin Sims last year is bigger than who they have signed.

They will run last again next year Nathan Brown is a myth.

The Knights will still be a bottom 4 side next year. They were going to sign Matt Scott till he did his ACL. He would have been a massive coup.

You've made a valid point about the Kinghts' contracts. While disappointed to miss Watson, I'm sure another player will become available.

Agree about Nathan Brown he is a myth….seems to be protected species never get criticized by the media.

Triple M have jumped on the Knights verbal fellatio bandwagon, pretty much calling the 2018 knights team the second coming of the glory days.

A few more signings (all of which they could pay slight overs for and not break they bank) and they'll be a threat:

1\. Kalyn Ponga
2\. Nathan Ross
3\. Tautau Moga
4\. Shaun Kenny-Dowall
5\. **Gideon Gela-Mosby**
6\. Connor Watson
7\. **Benji Marshall**
8\. **Brenton Lawrence**
9\. Danny Levi
10\. Daniel Saifiti
11\. Sione Mata'utia
12\. Aidan Guerra
13\. Herman Ese'ese

14\. Jamie Buhrer
15\. Jacob Saifiti
16\. Mitchell Barnett
17\. **Leilani Latu**

…'course they have to make those signings and some of them involve some risk but they're not beyond the realms of possibility and could work really well.

havent seen much of this thread however the only source i ever saw saying we were after watson was josh massoud who would have the worst strike rate out of anyone eith 'exclusives' that ive ever seen.

honestly we might not have even have been seriously after him. remember massoud said we'd lost lolohea to the cowboys

I think Nathan Brown has done a good job with Newcastle. Apart from a couple of ordinary performances they have been in most games this year, with a roster that doesnt compare with the majority of opposing teams.
Real shame Gagai is leaving because I think they are building nicely for next year.

Will they beat us?

If we were to be looking to sign a utility player like Connor Watson, I'd much rather Tyrone Roberts. According to the DT, he issued an ultimatum to the Titans 2 months ago and still hasn't received a contract.

He would be relatively cheap, and with his signing would bring vital experience (something Watson can not provide) along with depth. We do not need to be splashing our cash on unproven utilities, especially not $600k if the figures are true.
