Controversy Surrounding Souths V Bulldogs Ref. Decision

I don't particularly care for either team or the result but that was bad for the game imo, never should have been a penalty and then the crap Bulldogs carried on with not a good look.

Thanks for the info guys, but I don't have access to Fox :frowning: However, I think I will sign up for the NRL digital pass and check it out on there  Sounds like too good a game to not watch.

In all honesty though, why wouldn't they put the better game on in prime time and the lesser match in the arvo. Or better still, one on Thursday night and the other on Friday night like they used to at Easter - bloody ridiculous really.

It's because head office is run by morons !

im not biased either way (well, okay, i cant stand the dogs!), but my view on the penalty is that graham and the bulldogs were very hard done by. i played aussie rules for 20 years and you are taught to keep your eye on the ball and to smother by having your hands stretched out over where the ball is about to be kicked from - not go running at them and pointlessly jump in the air like your shouting "oh what a feeling!" as most seem to - and to me it looked like graham did exactly this. he wasn't even looking at reynolds in any way you would be if trying to hit him.

i know it is a dangerous thing to happen, but its getting to the point of the NFL where if you sneeze on a punter after he has kicked it it is a penalty. this was just an accident.

as for where he took the penalty kick, well what the hell???? as mentioned, the errant kick landed about 15m in from the touch line and he gets to take the shot from right in front?! he attempted the drop goal from…i dunno...35m out? surely it should have been taken from either of these two points, not 10m out right in front of the uprights.

if this is the rule, then theoretically, what is to stop someone doing a dropkick 1m out from their defending tryline, get tackled and then get a kick from 10m out right in front of their attacking posts?!

The referee should never be allowed near another NRL match and neither the near side touch judge.

It just gets worse - why are fans turning to other codes - duh!!!!!

Exactly but half of the people either here, on other social media, at the ground or in the pub just done see it.

Youve only got to look at some of the posts above to see people dont really care anymore. Its a society thing, the younger generation are only concerned with their own interests.

Unfortunately blatantly one sided referring like we saw throughout that game and the way the new independent commission is going about their business has good and decent rugby league supporters walking away from the game.

Police now converge on ANZ over Coward punch incident by Dogs supporter outside the Stadium…as I said stay classy...

Seems Dogs fans didn't like it either pelting the ref's with bottles…

Stay Classy Doggies fans...

Oh and BTW,,Its a fair penalty IMO...dangerous contact with the legs of a kicker,,,,it was an accident but so are many high tackles...come up off the ball are penalties...

You cant do what the refs just did and expect passionate fans to just go home quietly.

😱pen_mouth: Really even if it was a dud call …which I believe it wasn't ...doesn't condone violence...blow up all you like but have a bit of class in defeat ...I would feel the same if WT fans did the same...

I didnt condone it Geo. I am saying that the fans have had enough and that game was an absolute rort. People arent stupid.

really? could someone please tell these people that at the end of the day, it is only sport! jesus, i guess you get morons everywhere, but people getting this upset and going crazy is…revolting.

okay, sorry for any levity, but you get my point? its only rugby league for gods sake. you know, the old "controversial call that cost us the game... well get you next time!" type thing and that was it?
good natured debates over a beer after the game... anyone remember that?!

I dont think it was a penalty but it does remind me of the junior kiwis vs junior roos game last year when GUthersom had the chance to win it with a penalty goal and missed (Te Maire kicked the winning field goal too)

I didn't say that you did TITG,,,It's my opinion…just as others have differing opinions on the penalty....Dud ref calls have been going on since 1908....it;s not new

Both teams had them...IMO kicking a player in the head is a send off....but what we get these days is ON Report...blah blah blah

Ain't that the truth!

Dogs took a leaf out of our book last week when they had a penalty in front of sticks with 5 to go and played on result may have been different with a 4 point buffer

Don't attack the legs of a kicker. Simple.

Dog players. Dog fans. Dog club.

I was shaking my head at 1st but Refs call was right sadly. Graham went to charge down kick and sadly and unintentionally took out a leg (kind of looks like he slipped when tackling). Unfortunately for Graham the rule is there to protect the legs of the kicker.

Agree Geo. last week I let fly at refs vocally as they walked off. I got home and actually felt like a goose after seeing the 2 calls I disagreed with the red got right…. But to actually harm the Refs or even anyone in the firing line of bottles etc is just rediculous and criminal.

Just saw it for the first time.
Perfectly valid penalty. steve price used to dive at players legs repeatedly trying to 'smother the ball of the boot' & from memory it ended at least one players career. It was outloawed then because it's a vicious act and it still is.
Run in and jump up at the ball but trying to smother it off the boot is dangerous and outloawed for a very god reason.
Unfortunately, as the commentators, in particular gould, said 'the ref was wrong', everyone is going to carry on how hard done by james graham is - when he deserved everything he got. (esp. as he was carrying on last week telling the refs not to be scared to give a penalty)

edit - and throwing things at the ref because you don;t like the call… pathetic

Allegedly,

1\. The referee hit by the bottle taken to hospital for a suspected dislocated shoulder from falling.

2\. Reynolds out for approx 16 weeks apparently.

3\. Souths fan king hit outside the stadium with a teenage bulldog fan arrested.

Just read these things on fb and a couple of mates so don't quote me on this.

Disgraceful if true.

In every game we see penalties given for accidental head high shots and nothing is said, its just normal. Today, a half's legs were taken out accidentally and unintentionally; however the offender put himself in that position, knowing full well the consequences if he were to make contact. Legitimate penalty every day of the week. Unfortunate, but a penalty. Happens every game, every round.

In regard to the way their captain, players and fans reacted that was an absolute disgrace. Wouldn't expect anything less though. Dogs by name and dogs by nature.

We are really good friends with a director at the Bulldogs and he got hit in the head by a bottle whilst talking to one of the bulldogs players as they waked off, he is filthy. Just got off the phone with him and he reckons that the NRL are absolutely giving it to them. They aren't happy at all !

Ohh and apparently the police quickly got in and arrested 30-40 people and took them back to the station.

Such an ugly look. Amazing that we were talking about the dogs fans and their behaviour just last week.

Yet there were probably 5 or 6 players off side trying to charge the kick down

Why is it we seem to pick out certain penalties and ignore others ??

Was anyone placed on report in the end ??
