Controversy Surrounding Souths V Bulldogs Ref. Decision

a bit of nostalgia

Dear Raelene, you certainly have your work cut out for you.

The grand final which I attended six months ago was the first Bulldogs game I had been to in four years.

I stopped going to any games that my team plays against the Bulldogs because I got sick of the mindless aggression of many, not a few, of your club's supporters.

I was once punched by a Bulldog supporter while my letting nature take its course in the men's toilets. I was spat on once while catching the train home, and that's not to mention the attempted intimidation by bands of Bulldog supporters who seem to be buoyed by safety in numbers.

I gave up going to any Bulldog games.

It's not enjoyable. I have better things to do with my time.

Your club has some serious issues among segments of your supporter base.

I've long since stopped listening to the "family club" tag.

It was once a family club, thirty odd years ago when the Hughes and Mortimer brothers played, but it is now a club in need of REAL change, and not just some nice tag lines.

You and the board might want to start with your petulant coach who sets much of the expectations, and proceed on to the club captain, who so often fails to show true leadership qualities.

The rot has well and truly set in. Good luck trying to revive what was once a leading club. It's been overtaken by an over zealous minority who are determined to cause trouble. Dogs of War indeed.

I agree many feel refs are responsible for deciding outcomes at time thru errors….however I never expect to see that behaviour from our fans....or any other teams fans

Its only a problem for one set of fans...every other set of fans can cop it on the chin, go and vent on forums without resorting to violence...when you say you expected it, that reads to me you blame the refs for it happening...**but this is not the refs fault.**....if im reading you wrongly I apologize

All good.

As do I.Was at the game and there were kids crying everywhere. Not very often I agree with Des Hasler but when he said this country does not deserve the crap dished up on "good friday"(is that what angered "some" dog fans)I agree wholeheartedly. Not hard to tell from AHX comments who these people are who behave in such hero status in large group numbers.Same ones who have zero dreams of assimilation with the values of Australia.Having said that Tony33 I enjoy reading your thoughts on this matter cause you tell it like it is.I certainly am starting to like what I see from the Lebanese community cause you and I both know that more and more people of Lebanese descent are starting to denounce these people(within their community) who act like immature pea hearted heroes.

These times that we currently live in I am thoroughly enjoying in the sense that I am seeing more and more people from Arabic background say hey I might be of Middle eastern origin like you but you my friend are a grand tosser. These wankers are starting to get less and less.Trust me.Just takes time to weed out all the crap but we are certainly winning the fight.the fight aint against lebanese its against those who give Lebanese a bad name by their actions and their anti-authority and Anti Australian ways.

read this somewhere today

not all bulldog fans are hooligans but all hooligans are bulldogs fans

Bulldogs fans = Thugs and Mugs.
Re refs, get off their backs. They have a job to do and they're in a no-win situation all the time, someone is always going to disagree with their decisions. Some do it well, others get flustered and make mistakes. Try reffing a few junior games and then see how you go with comments.

Top post. No way I'd take kids to a Bulldogs game.

One thing i hate is hearing that is a ''minority''. Its a lot more than a minority. I was there last week, and the amount of gronks leaving the game with chips on their shoulders with Bulldog jerseys were more than a few. Go to a game and i challenge you to come across more decent people in Dogs jerseys than wankers. I bet you won't. The whole supporter base needs to be exterminated from the game.

It wasn't a great decision, but the way the Dogs carried on afterwards, namely Graham and Klemmer was disgraceful.

I credit their action in spurring on the twits in the crowd.

IMO they have both brought the game into disrepute and should get a few weeks off to think about it.

4 i reckon!

Yep. I think the bottles came from the members stand. Unfortunately, you'll find people like these everywhere. They'll just move on to some other sport, some other social gathering and cause nuisance there. They are Dogs4Lyf.

See this is why i hate the bulldogs and their fans as much as i do, probably more than anyone else. Their obvious stereotype mean that myself and many others like me have to deal with the consequences of their barbaric, immature and disgusting behaviour.

What people need to understand is that you can't simply say "the lebanese community", it's a much more specific group both overseas and in Australia. The lebanese community is extremely different to other Middle eastern societies because it is more diverse culturally and religiously (60% Muslim / 40% Christian); however due to the stereotypes all sects of the Lebanese community are painted with the same brush.

I am an Australian of Lebanese descent and I hate going to Bulldogs games because of these grubs, my sister last week was trying to convince me not to go to the game. Many of my relatives and friends go for the Bulldogs because it is their local team. All of them hate their own supporter base because of the reputation they now have due to these imbeciles and their immaturity and gang mentality. All of them like me are Australians of lebanese descent who consider ourselves lucky because we get the best of two great cultures.

In the middle east there is no lebanese, Iran, Saudia Arabia, etc, etc. There are Shia Muslims, Sunni Musims and Christians. The Christians had no chance in between the Sunni-Shia war and moved here and overseas in search of a better opportunity and life. Unfortunately they followed and unlike us were unwilling to assimilate and thus have this us against them gang mentality that results with what we see at Bulldogs games (back on topic).

It is such a shame that we as an Australian community have to be afraid to attend a football match with fear of being king hit or worse. I just hope the Australian community aren't naive enough to think we are all the same and can understand that we hate them more then anyone else for the reputation they give us.

Ps. I HATE THE BULLDOGS AND GO THE TIGERS :sign:

I agree with 90% of your comments. But to say the "whole" supporter base needs to be exterminated is factually wrong. For two reasons and both equally as Important. One the bulldogs have been in the comp since 1935 and Im guessing a lot of the fans of the dogs are actually caucasian,Italians etc etc who while also being very passionate do not bring the game into disrepute like the actions of what I will term these "Lebanese thugs" with brain cells the size of peanuts. The second and just as important(if not more important reason) is the good honest and hardworking people within the Lebanese community who thru no fault of their own have to cop there cultural identity forever appearing in media outlets like they are all criminals and thugs and pea hearted pea brains.

Just as you said GNR that you challenge people to go to a dogs game and come across more decent people than wankers you are 100% factually right when you say that you will come across far more wankers than good ones. But when there is 30,000 dogs fans at a game the true number might be 22,000 complete wankers but that leaves 8,000 good ones who dont deserve to be tarred with the same brush. We all need to read Tony33 post re cultural ties/issues in the middle east to get a better understanding of the mindsets of these people(as he should know he is originally from Lebanon).

But one thing I certainly know myself is that of the 22,000 bad apples a lot of these are just very impressionable youth who with the right guidance and discipline(if only we had a strict legal system with cops allowed to be real cops and sentence maximums not minimums) in time could make that 22,000 much much smaller so the broader well behaved non-bulldog Australian-Lebanese(who love this country)community could go about there lives in a peaceful way so that they didnt all get tarred with the same brush. Also like Tony33 said back home in Lebanon you werent considered Lebanese but either Sunni,Shia or Christian.

Without trying to start a religious war(as i find myself fast becoming an extreme atheist)we all could take an educated guess at the ones who are and who arent trying to assimilate(general comment I know but hey mathematical fact will forever remain mathematical fact). On the topic of Bulldogs fans this is no new thing and I in fact remember when the bulldogs used to have a celebrated multi cultural day at Belmore in the mid to late 80's( which was a regular occurrence) you would see half time announcements from politicians announcing 1 million dollar grants to the Lebanese-Australian community while on the hill you would here 5 to 10 comments a game from Lebanese people saying we will breed all you aussie scum out of this country. That was the mentality of these wankers.

They were just the true scum of the earth. So yes the quicker these people are exterminated from the game(hopefully this country too if we dont all get on the left bandwagon) the better buttttt let the true Lebanese-Australians who love this country to the hilt scream Bulldogs for another 100 years as they are actually very passionate and very loyal fans.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of arguments against the decision but I'd like to say the following:

Usually when you charge down, you put your arms up high and jump up. Graham was most likely trying to charge down but he dived directly into the legs of a kicker. Maybe he was trying to dive at the ball near the legs? That's just not right. In the end, an injury did occur- freak accident maybe.

_Posted using RoarFEED 4.2.0_

He made a tackle, he is allowed to tackle.

you don't tackle a kicking player's legs

having watched the replay ten times, im actually convinced that it was 100% graham's fault.. he didnt try to charge the ball down, he tried to fall onto the ball without thinking that he might fall onto reynolds' legs. there are thousands of attempted charge downs in the afl, these sorts of injuries don't occur at all because the players are aware of this.

Our number 9 is Lebanese.

Our other great number 9 Benny Elias is from Lebanese descent. Moses too. Kazzi etc etc

The important factor is assimilation. Without it there is an Us V Them mentality. This unfortunately leads to groups with a similar mentality being formed.
