COOLING

Who's living it up in an air conditioned home this summer?
We pulled all our cieling fans out and have a suss old A/c unit in the dining room for some reason but we're getting ducted A/C installed next weekend.

How will you be keeping cool this summer?

I'll be at the beach on days off.

I've gone the opposite … Just installed 5 ceiling fans ( just to move the air ). all internal walls and the roof are fully insulated . It doesn't get hot enough were I'm at , and I couldn't justify spending $8 -10k on a ducted system just to get massive quarterly bills ..

Had under floor ducted gas installed not long ago for the colder months !

Only place to be when its stinking hot is right under the A/C. People are mad going to the beach in 40 degrees heat, you just melt. Yesterday was bad, i sweated my arse off walking from the station to the office and it was only 7 30 in the AM.

3 phase or single phase??? If it's 3 phase watch your usage , even though there a lot better consumption wise than they were, they can still bite when the bill arrives.
None of them are cheap cheap , but in my job , I have seen some major bills , admittedly some of those were in McMansions on the Gold Coast
(Admittedly I of them was a 3 phase ducted air , zoned, in a two storey McMansion , and they'd been in the house 3 months from the beginning of Summer and the air was turned on the second week they were there, and had never been off since"
When we worked out how much power he had used , he nearly freaked out.
That was about 4 years ago and they are better now.
All he could say was the estate agent told him it was really cheap to run

Gee Hap, they get what? Maybe 10 days a year of heatwave conditions?

Every bloody Christmas up here. I remember well my mum actually buying an ice-cream cake for Christmas a few years ago and we all sat there and watched it melt before our eyes.

Summer here would average mid to high 30's.
I am moving south when I retire.

Yep you're right, GNR, people are mad going to the beach on those super hot days, yet heaps of them still do it. I am fortunate to live a only block from the beach and I wouldn't even think of venturing down there on 40 degree days. Even on the more temperate days I usually go early and I'm out of there by about 10.30 am as it starts to get too hot to enjoy really, but the amount of people I see coming down from that time onwards is amazing - they're nuts! I suppose it would be alright if you had some kind of shade/shelter, but I much rather an earlier swim, plus it's much quieter then.

I only got air conditioning put in at home for the first time last year and it is mainly used in winter. I might put it on for a while on the odd really hot days (like yesterday arvo), but I really don't think it gets all that hot in this area, overall, to warrant using it all the time.

Everybody in Sydney and on the Coast starts to whinge about the heat when we have a few hot days strung together, but it never lasts long. WA, VIC, SA, QLD and NT all have waay hotter Summer months than us - it will probably be back to 20 degrees here next week  Ask NT Tiger about heat

I love the cold CQ , fishing at night in winter for bream and salmon , can't beat it

Getting up early with the beanie playing golf

I can live with heat it the humidity that drive's me insane

I lived in Rocky for about 4 months over summer and swore I'd never again

We have Xmas at the in laws Beautiful food , no air cons :brick: 😢

When we bought the house i said to Mrs , don't care what tiles you want me to lay to the whole house or what colour you want me to paint but when we negotiate the price for the house you allow for the ducted air to go in my love , was an easy deal
Demps you will love it , we have fans in every room and circulates beautifully in those hot days when the Test cricket is on there is nothing better . We don't use it a great deal cause we get the Sea breeze in the afternoon and the pool at night fixes everything .

I agree with Happy the heat is not so much the problem for me either it's the humidity and the bloody MIDGES and SAND FLIES. But you can't have it all 5 minutes to the beach , 40 minutes to Byron Bay , 35 minutes to the theme Parks . A big contrast from where i grew up all my life FAIRFIELD .

Fair dinkum you Wueenslander's can moan…

Just get outside and run around under the sprinkler...

My partner's cousin is a fridgie…
We got the unit + installed for cheap.
High quality Samsung unit.

Not sure exactly...
I heard them mention "zoned" not sure about phased or anything.
Also heard the word "spill zone" haha...
I just pay for it... Don't know the details.

I told a friend who use to sell ducted units and he was shocked at the price we were paying and reckons their store sold em for up to 10k+

3 phase is when your electricity provider has to install additional power (thicker cable) from the pole to your house .
Zoned is where you can have the air-con switched off in the bedrooms while you're not using them.
Make sure it's at least a 14kw system .. Anything smaller will struggle !

We practically live outdoors in the Spring and Summer months. Lots of barbies, lazing about on our deck that's surrounded by huge majestic gum trees and cooling off by jumping in our river for a swim and a bit of fishing. Love the summertime.

Your spot on hobbo , with our system the bedrooms have a different zoning to the living areas , meaning one bedroom will always be running when you want to run it for all your living areas . Each room will have a button to press it on or off on the Control Panel , it's also wise to only have the bedroom you are sleeping ON as appose to having all 4 bedrooms running when no one is in the other 3 bedrooms (better Cooling) for the room your in .
