Origin will be held after the grand final

I'm not too sure about this... The dynamics of the whole thing... Origin straight after GF.... It will be difficult for players not making semis playing origin after 4 weeks without footy... and how do players that competed in the GF get up for origin... Will be extremely difficult

They are hoping for crowds! Origin should be big enough to cope, may need train on squads for players eliminated from finals!

Yes mate, agree totally. That wouldn't be hard, that's what they used to do for Kangaroo Tours.

And there was supposed to be a Kangaroo tour this year so they would have been doing it anyway!

Kangaroo tours also had warm up. Matches against club sides. Before the tests

They did, but that was more of a hangover from the old tours when they were over there for months. Our end of year 4 nations have never had those matches, in fact I believe 1994 was the last time we played those matches so 26 years ago!

I wonder if by playing SOO last they are also hoping that we will get a proper home and away series

But I agree with Ink ...don't like the idea of post season SOO football ...it is the real money spinner in the search for FTA / Pay $$$$'s ...you put up a poor product and we could lose hundreds of millions

I'm hoping this allows us to move to a model in the future that will have origin having less of an impact on the NRL competition!

I'm not talking about the playing it at the end of the year, but a system where we close the season for 3 weeks to play origin I feel has merit, if this can gain media attention and dominate the 3 weeks it is being played in late October/ early November imagine what a 3 week origin season break could do. Each state chooses a squad of 25 players and goes into camp for 3 weeks, It would be huge. The reason they are looking to play it the end of the year this year is to hopefully have crowds back by then. Origin without crowds would be extremely lackluster!

Yeah well that's a different matter and I totally agree

4 week window which involves a transfer system and international football between Samoa ,Tonga , PNG

NZ maybe doing it's own SOO North v South Island

Maybe even something like the pre NFL draft when you can see some of the talented juniors in our game doing beep tests , 40 metre sprints , strength and conditioning exercises

Just think having the SOO over a 3 week period at the end of the year is a good way to trial that at this time!

We’ve seen what footy is like after the regular season with International footy. It’s rubbish and the players are tired. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

The point is, the whole season is broken and has to be fixed. They want crowds for SOO so are playing it when there is an opportunity that we may have crowds. I think mass gathering are extremely unlikely, even at that late a date but it is the best chance of having a crowd so for this year we just have to suck it up knowing it is a one off!

I realise the NRL needs the income from S O O but I am sick of Fittler and and Meninga handing out advice to get themselves a headline in the media . Neither of these guys have been able to sustain a club gig at NRL level .Seriously ,anyone on this forum could coach a S O O side. Both of these guys have had their snout in the trough for far too long-hope V'Landys has a good look at what they are earning in relation to the amount of work they actually do.

I don't agree with the point that anyone could coach a SOO side, the role is just very different than a club coach role!

It will be a bit strange having it after the season but at least it will stop the broadcasters talking about origin for months on end. All over and done with in about 15 days will be good.

Vlandy's was just on triple m and said the reason for SOO at seasons end is to maintain the integrity of the season. With the season being shorten it will be important for teams to have access to their full rosters.

He made a good point I feel!

Yeah I heard that too and agree... We have little. Choice re : origin... I still believe it will be a lesser product this year at the end... As will the comp itself

It's as good as situation as you could expect. It will help teams like us that can't keep up the intensity for a full season.

So true - can't remember when we last won 3 in a row!
