What is the better way ...have magic round every weekend in Brisbane .....Gladstone ......Dubbo .....and play each other once ...semis ...GF... SOO

Conference concept is gaining traction over the last few days. Not sure about the no points aspect from games already played. Robinson on the committee (wonder if that was his idea)

Well look at the advantage Canberra or Newcastle got

Unless you try and work out a conference from the games played ..what do you do

We aren't going to get perfection from whatever way we go forward from here on unfortunately

Fans no fans pfffft …give us a game to watch you bronze nuggets and pay up

It was odd to begin with, buy by the end of Rd 2 I was getting used to the lack of crowds, and I was appreciating how much in-match sound we were getting. The sound of the hits is great.

A few years ago on our second Larry Spina Cup the girls SOO was played mid afternoon at 1300 Stadium , the crowd was small but you could really notice the hits

Top 8 as it stands..Bottom 8 as it stands ..Top 2 of each go through to the GF...

Wests Tigers v Parra GF at Bankwest of course..

Problem solved..I'm a thinker..

Who said 9th Sucks..

They need to at a minimum start from round 2 .
That win against Stains was epic . Then we could have another crack at the knights .

Clear the +/- and keep the comp points.I do agree, we won't be getting perfection from this situation if the game does return this year

No issue it conferences.

Panthers has launched an audacious bid to help the NRL return to the field, offering to be one of the hubs hosting teams for a revised version of the competition.

With the Leagues Club closed, Panthers has emerged as a real possibility to provide a ‘bubble’ for the NRL given the club, dining facilities, a 222-room hotel, high quality training facilities and Panthers Stadium are all in close proximity.

It is believed Panthers presented the concept to the NRL yesterday and it will be seriously considered.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that one option under consideration is basing all 16 NRL teams in Sydney – eight at Sydney Olympic Park and eight at Penrith. Matches would be played at ANZ Stadium, Bankwest Stadium and Panthers Stadium.

“The players would go straight from the hotel into team rooms, training and dining options without having any contact with the outside world,” Panthers Group CEO Brian Fletcher told the Herald.

“We can create an isolated community, or bubble for that matter. The only time they would leave the facility is when the teams train across the road, but we could organise shuttles across into the stadium or training grounds. They can live through the hotel and club area while it’s all on.”

The NRL is hopeful to be playing football by May 28, albeit most likely behind closed doors with no fans in attendance. That would ensure at least some form of the competition is played this year, easing the financial strain on the code.

While the planned 25 round season now seems unlikely, officials are still hopeful of playing a 15 round season, plus Finals and Grand Final, as well as the State of Origin series.

Competition points earned in the opening two rounds will stand.

Creating an isolated bubble, in Sydney?? Fair dinkum, and it's going to be realistically considered? Only leaving their rooms to train?? What absolute rubbish.

I don't really see the urgent need to return back to the field. The NRL is being totally selfish, trying desperately to save their own skins. I'm not interested in seeing some Mickey Mouse Nines tournament, or a replica of the Brisbane Magic Round every week. The whole country goes into isolation, staying so many metres away from each other, and they still want to play football? It's ridiculous. It comes across as embarrassing, accept reality already. For me the NRL trying to find a loophole comes across as disrespectful to the severity of the situation we are in, and that disrespect is in too many other people already.

The ARL Commission is tomorrow expected to sign off on the return of the NRL competition from as early as May 21.

The Herald has been told by sources with knowledge of the negotiations that a Sydney-based, 15-round season is the preferred option of the two proposals that will be discussed at the NRL innovation committee meeting tomorrow morning.

Following the meeting, a recommendation will be put to the commission and a decision on the structure and future of the game is likely to be announced.

The alternative proposal, which was met with resistance from some of the players on an RLPA phone hook-up on Wednesday, is a two-conference system, splitting the competition in half.

After high-level discussions between the NSW government and NRL powerbrokers, Sydney-based players will be allowed to remain at home when the competition resumes, which was well-received by the RLPA, whose members were reluctant to undergo solitary confinement.

Border restrictions will see the North Queensland Cowboys, Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans, Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors move to Sydney for at least two weeks, when it is hoped they may be able to return home and resume travelling interstate on chartered flights on game day.

The Knights and Raiders are expected to stay in Newcastle and Canberra respectively and travel to Sydney on game day.

The Warriors, who will be given exemptions to travel restrictions by the New Zealand and Australian governments, will have to isolate together for 14 days, but they will be able to train.

The NRL is optimistic of the competition returning on May 21, although May 28 seems the more likely of the two dates.

Delicate negotiations between the governing body and its broadcast partners were held this week and will continue, with State of Origin now firming to be played in the traditional mid-season format.

If the NRL succeeds in its plans for a May return, the grand final will be played in its traditional time slot, the first Sunday in October.

Twenty-four hours ago, the NRL was preparing to isolate teams in a western Sydney bubble, but those plans have been significantly affected by the state government’s overnight assessment of the crisis.

The government has expressed its confidence in the NRL to respond to any changes in the health situation.

A secondary outbreak could see the NRL return to the bubble model later in the year, although the advice it has received predicts the daily increase in COVID-19 cases will be less than one per cent by the time of the NRL's planned return in mid-May.

The NRL is hopeful that by mid-June all states will relax their restrictions and it will be able to return to playing games at venues around the country, albeit without crowds in attendance.

I hate it. 15 rounds 🤮

How can you crown deserving premiers after 15 rounds. The season is only just beginning to warm up then.

Why not play till November/December like was previously mentioned.
