If it’s so crazy, why are the NRL the only competition in the world gung ho about re-starting? And why aren’t they playing today? Will it be any safer on May 28?

The aren't playing today because they were told by their pandemic expert growth was going to go past 30 or 40% so they closed the sport down. That didn't eventuate so they now believe they should have played through so are looking to start back up. If the current trends continue then yes it will be safer on May 28th?

So restrictions will be lifted?

Berajikian from her mouth on Wednesday said with the latest trend and if it continues they would consider opening Schools after the holidays ..so the kiddies can go back..as well as looking at raising the number of people that can gather for boot camps etc among other businesses ..that is only 2 weeks away..Of course this is only based on Health advice...from the State Health advisors..so yeah..

They shouldn’t be open. It’s all well and good to coddle the parents about not sending kids to school if they don’t seem it safe, but they’ve shown no regard for teachers.

Until there is some indication when "social distancing" limitations will be eased on the rest of society the NRL will be viewed by many as being self involved - when the rest of us are expected to be thinking of the wider community - with no indication of when that may change.
The game can't operate under the rules placed on the rest of society, and we have been given no indication when that may be lifted. For those who have lost jobs because of those restrictions they have reason to be a bit miffed about any sanctions being eased for the NRL.

What about those who have lost jobs because of the NRL being stopped despite their ability to actually operate?

Well they are in the same position as the hospitality community, the arts community, the airline and travel community retail, manufacturing etc. all impacted by "social distancing" rules. It sucks for everyone but when the message is that this is the way to stop the spread of the virus then it is understandable that some would see the NRL looking very self involved.

Let’s be honest. You don’t care about NRL saving jobs, you want to watch the game for your own reasons. Which is fine, but don’t pretend to be on some noble crusade when you’re only objective is to aleve your boredom

I think any job is important at the moment as the alternatives are fairly bleak, I have gone out of my way to ensure people, even relative strangers have as much chance of getting through this as best as they can. So yes I believe that any job that can be reclaimed at the moment is crucial in all industries. Any industry that can safely resume jobs should. Any industry that the government deems to be able to operate safely should!

In saying that is a big part of why I want the footy back wanting to see footy played, 100% but only if it can be done safely and the government approves it!

Yes you don't want to see job losses, agreed, however the NRL is like many, they are collateral damage because of this onslaught of the virus that must be overcome...I work in a hotel with bistro,gaming,b/shop and bars,we had to close,I lost my job and don't see anyone lobbying to get us open until the Govt says so..its that simple at the moment...especially if it saves many, many lives...

Pretty sure any business that can operate and comply with the current "social distancing" is operating.
The NRL at this point can't and hence why it is not - like the other businesses' that can't comply.

This is not about NRL it is about a virus that has killed 100,000 people to date and counting - that is transmitted by human contact and does not discriminate. We are all under government instruction to negate the transmission through social distancing.
Regardless of the hoops the NRL is jumping through to get the game up and running it is a game that ignores "social distancing" - can't be compared to any business that is currently operational - and until that is lifted for everyone there is reason to question "why them"?
