I appreciate countries are in different stages but most are starting to flatten...... not so US

Hardly surprising given how their medical systems work. All based on privatisation and insurance. If you are not working basically you are not insured and hence not covered and therefore low on the list. If you can’t pay you don’t get treatment. Yes there is welfare but still seems limited.

They are treating all corona cases free of charge.

They are now. However, look at it this way. You live in the US, used to the system. You’ve been stood down. You start to feel unwell but you have no insurance. Probably should go to the doctor but can’t afford the bills, so you decide not to go, it’s probably only the Flu. Eventually you get worse and have no choice but to go to hospital and are diagnosed with COVID19 and treated for free. Unfortunately it’s too late because you have already infected everyone you have come in contact with in the intervening time. Like I said hardly surprising the rates in the US are so high.

This is not bait, I would genuinely like to know how much it costs to go to the Dr in the US. The common narrative is as you have posted above, but above and beyond that the US has the best cancer survival rates in the world and basically the highest levels of medical expertise in the world. Genuinely interested in how it works.

On the surface we have nationalised health care here in Aus but that is not how it works. If you have something serious wrong with you, you get in the queue unless you have private insurance. Would like to know the truth about the difference.

A quick google gives the answer. “ An initial consultation with a doctor will cost in the range of $100 – $200.”

Do you tip a Dr ??

Hahahahaha. Costs only escalate from there. Only tip underpaid workers.

Did anyone hear the spokesperson from the Malaysian Govt in regards to wives and partners using sarcasm when speaking to their husbands about jobs around the house ...keeping a happy , healthy house

When does the self isolation end in Malaysia ...Borneo is a beautiful island ...wonder if the Mrs and kids are keen

A few years back, I came down with a bad flu during a trip to USA. I went to a clinic, tested positive to influenza A, got treatment (injection) and follow-up prescription drugs. The shebang cost me about A$500 think it was 2016?

After corresponding with a retailer in NY state yesterday, he is actually going quite well with his online business but can't get extra staff at present because extra welfare has kicked in. Welfare base of $200 makes going to the doctor prohibitive but there has been $600 added to the benefit apparently.
So they should be able to afford a visit...

It is a disgrace what some multinationals are pulling .....

The one I work for has worked out if they fully apply the 1.5 m rule they can save money in labour , yet they don't have issues with employees still handling cash and don't think gloves or masks are required or eftpos machines don't have the disposable covers /sheaths

Got to love how some Coronavirus rules are important ...others meh ....just keep trading

Maccas now selling burger buns / English muffins and 2 litre milk through the drive through ...anything to make a buck .
Friggin parasites !

Same with Woolworths - one day there are 100s of products storewide on special and markdown - the next day everything full price whether it was in demand or not. Absolute parasites.

Ultimately if this is going to be long term there will have to be a moratorium on mortgages, especially on rental properties, despite my being ideologically opposed to investment in property. Tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of newly out of work renters are going to default on their rental agreements, yeah the landlord can evict them, but who will go in there to replace the previous people. You'll be pushing families out onto the street and the landlords will have no one to fill the vacancies will by my reckoning will create a housing fire sale which will won't benefit anyone except for the renters who have still managed to keep their jobs and do have savings which now put them in a position to purchase a home (which is a good outcome for them, but does not help those who rent and do not have the means to buy a home.)

You can't evict anyone ATM for 6 months for rent default...Nor can Tenants just stop paying the rent...it will happen though..

We have a rental property and have a lady on a pension in there long term. The rent is way below market value and i doubt that she would just stop paying it as she is still getting the same income she has for the last 12 months. However if she did just stop paying for the 6 months for no reason i would seriously consider kicking her out after the moratorium.

Yes ..I have 2 and so far so good...I don't think I could kick them out for rent default to be honest...but then I have to consider I have children who rent and are lucky to still have employment so they are fine for now..but if their circumstances changed I don't know how I'd feel if I have the opportunity to provide them accommodation but couldn't due to the moratorium..

It is looking like NSW health is going to carry the can for the fiasco about Ruby Princess, apparently they decided it was "low risk".No wonder rumours are circulating Gladys will not be standing at the next election as leader

Correspondence between the ship and NSW health shows the ship reported multiple people on board with flu like symptoms and they had done flu swabs that were negative. NSW health then gave them the all clear to dock without restrictions but requested the swabs so they could test them for covid19. Passengers were left of the ship with no restrictions before results were known!

It would have happened regardless of who the Premier was. It was a decision made by senior health officials who are not elected. If they had consulted anyone (and it doesn't sound like they did) it would have been the Health Minister in the first instance, not the Premier. Ousting leaders for decisions over which they have no control is not a fruitful exercise. She may well go because there are things over which she did have control that she has not handled well and she has dissented from her party at the Federal level, but she shouldn't go because of what happened with that cruise ship.

The minister is supposedly responsible for their portfolio.I know she is not the minister but she did appoint them to administer the health dept. There have been problems on many cruise ships prior to this and it has had very large media coverage. You would hope any minister would be aware of that and be proactive.
We need somebody far more capable as health minister during the crisis

We should wait until the findings of the Police review are known. I believe there is an issue surrounding communications from the ship. Also personal responsibility is an issue.

The Minister should go for defending those that made the decision to allow the passengers to disembark and also for not setting the correct process and procedures. Also for trying to cover up and blame Boarder Force when it was NSW Health. Those that made the incorrect decision should also go. Their judgment cannot be relied upon. I have zero confidence in NSW Health.

As a whole I think NSW health will do a very good job dealing with this crisis, I think we see we actually have a very good health system after this. I think this stuff up came from an individual under stress making a poor decision. Over the coming months we will see some of our front line medical people make some mistake under immense pressure and I think we need to support them as much as we can as they are about to be smashed for the next 3 months!

No one in NSW Health is taking responsibility for this stuff up. Therefore it is likely to happen again with the same dire consequences. Those people I mentioned must go.
