On train to Wynyard at the moment. Some one is coughing down the back.....

Nervous

Just as well we dont live in the land of the stupid or someone would pull out a gun, claim the 2nd ammendment and the right to defend themselves and shoot them.
That scenario is hopefully never going to happen but with thise armed nut jobs over there it is not impossible

We don't live in the land of the stupid?

Than what do you call all those people buying up all the dunny rolls

They are lemmings and panic buyers and we have already had at least one moron stab someone out parra way.If they are armed with guns think how much dangerous it would be

if people were serious they'd be stocking up on bottled water, but as you know the sheep are not buying that...

Tinned goods as well

You going boracay?

My closest friends working at DFAT in the aussie embassey in Hanoi say its fine over there and around the area.

Not this time... been to Boracay a few years back, visiting.the Mrs mum in samar, a few days at a resort in Cebu and then to the Mrs place in palawan.

Visited a supermarket for the first time this week... The local aldi looked trashed
.. No dunny rolls, tissues, nappy, pasta and pasta sauce... Tinned Tuna and salmon nearly all gone

Thanks spud ?

didn't they just clean up Boracay after us Aussies trashed the place?

It wasn't really trashed imo but the infrastructure needed more work... Many say it's boring now you can't even have a beer on the beach

It should be standard behaviour for ANYONE who's sick (coughing, sneezing etc) to wear a face mask while out in public. Everyone wins, and there's absolutely no reason not to do it. So many people don't even cover their mouths when the cough. This removes the need to do so.

Especially on packed commuter transport. Ideally anyone who's sick stays home. Take sick leave. But for those that don't have that luxury at the very least wear a face mask.

If the governement, private businesses and GPs started promoting this it would become normal. So much lost productivity due to selfish and lazy people spreading germs.

Better yet - just stay home if you can, which removes any concern about how you behave around others whilst you are ill.

There is a reason not to do it - there is not an infinite supply of hospital-grade face masks. If everyone starts to buy up stock, you put pressure on the stocks for people who really need it, like front-line health care workers and actual sick people. Maybe suppliers ramp up supplies, maybe they don't, or maybe they can't react fast enough to demand. I don't know the mask-making industry is anything like for toilet paper.

In the case of flu, and I presume similar for COVID-19, CDC states that wearing a mask is not pointless, but "may not effectively limit transmission in the community". This is especially because viral shedding can begin before symptoms appear, and sometimes for a significant period afterwards.

I took my son to our GP this morning and on both entry doors were big signs advising that if you had been overseas recently or suffering from flu symptoms to call the clinic. Under no circumstances are you to attend in person.

I certainly didn't mean everyone just buy one, but those who are already sick and are coughing and sneezing (this doesn't usually just miraculously happen on public transport for hte first time) they should wear a mask.

If you have no symptoms there's no need to wear a mask.

And i wasn't referring to Corona at all. This should be a general health policy.

The scary thing is you only show symptoms 2 weeks after catching the virus. So you may be passing it on without even knowing it. And then they will pass it on and so on.

A friend is a Senior DR in a leadership position at a major Sydney Hospital.

They are expecting that almost everyone will be exposed to this and suffer flu like symptoms over the next 12 months.

As its mentioned above, the carriers may not know they have it and sharing.

Other thing is worth noting that it isnt as bad as ebola..

That's viral natural selection for you. If you are only contagious after you start showing symptoms, it makes it much easier for the population to quarantine itself, so the virus is less successful in being passed around.

My son went to St pats.... I've heard nothing about a girl from there being positive... Do you have a link?

I suppose my problem is not the moderate usage you suggest, it's the "people going mental" part when it comes to stocks and supplies.

Imagine the amount of calls they’d be getting from hypochondriacs who have a cough.

Just had 96 rolls of toilet paper land on my doorstep. A bit over the top I know but there is simply no stocks available in the Shire 🙂

Happy to share if you are short.

After this weekend's game you might just need it
