Coronavirus Outbreak

I am so angry right now....

I went to my local Bunnings and I was looking for a part. The Bunnings App said it was in stock and to ask the staff for the location. I went to the information desk, who were wearing masks but not gloves, and showed them my SmartPhone and what I was looking for on the Bunnings App. Before I could stop her the lady grabbed my SmartPhone out of my hands. I was in shock at just what had happen. She couldn't find the item and so passed my SmartPhone onto another staff member.

There was no attempt to clean my SmartPhone before giving it back to me. They were wearing masks after all (sorry but just the stupidity of people).

I see this as a major breach of infection control and Covid19 protocols. I have let them know in no uncertain terms.

I went back to my car, as I carry hand sanitiser with me, and immediately cleaned my SmartPhone and hands.

arrggggggggg

28 cases now. Numbers looking like a keno game.

Are the new ones confined to the northern beaches?

Yes at the moment but some of these positive cases have travelled and been to places all over Sydney in public transport as well .. one day soon the penny will drop that mandatory wearing of masks is law !

They help only a very small amount and in some cases make it worse. Most of the people I see wearing mask touch them at least once a minute and then immediately touch other surfaces, with the potential to spread the virus far and wide.

Nonsense.

There's a heap of scientific evidence to say that masks ***work***.

Case closed.

Work or help?

Both are subjective terms and as a result cause much pointless debate.

I think most people know or agree that masks won't stop you getting infected by others.

But masks do reduce the probability of infecting others.

Even masks that aren't surgical grade or aren't applied properly reduce it to some degree.

And for every dope that gets it wrong with a mask and renders it useless, you'll have a few that get it right.

Once you factor in many masks (with varying degrees of effectiveness), plus other precautionary measures like social distancing, hand sanitizing, venue limits you get a non-linear, multiplier drop in infection rates.

For the record, I hate wearing a mask but grit my teeth and do it because it works.

I'd love to get opinions on this.

A mate of mine was sent home by his boss and told to get a covid test and not return until he was clear.

All because the boss saw a picture of my mate on social media, having a beer with someone from the northern beaches.

This northern beaches person does not have covid and has not been to s suspect venue.

My mate also has zero symptoms.

Does this seem wrong to anyone else?

Nope, seems a sensible precaution. It’s how you stop the spread quickly.

Oh I agree with all of that, there is plenty of scientific evidence that wearing masks helps in reduce the probabilty of the virus being inhaled in *droplet* form but not as much in aerosolised form. Of couse wearing one reduces the amount of virus that would be spread around if you had it, less effective at stopping you inhaling it if its there.

No question masks help and should be worn to *help* reduce the chance of spreading, but there is no evidence that they work in stopping the spread. Im all for people wearing masks but I think in some circumstances people get a sense of security with them which simply doesnt exist.

The test is a bit much but sending home until the situation is clearer is defensible. I hate saying "its my opinion", as it isn't much of an argument but in this case it is my subjective view. A small loss of choice earlier this year has given us months of relative freedom.

As long as the employee is getting paid for any scheduled work after being directed to leave it is fine by me.

Regardless if they are paid by the employer (*edit: I think they should be) or not they should leave and get tested. This has the potential to explode, Victoria style. They may be able to claim The NSW Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment. It was setup just for those occasions.
