It's a US strain. One of these Avalon travellers flew to Qld and was contacted by NSW Contact Tracers and told to return and tested positive. All on that flight have been contacted. Another visited Cronulla RSL and that club is closed. These are obviously middle aged to older citizens who should have exercised restraint in travelling.

For the last century or so, people from this area have never left their little pocket of Sydney. Nek minnit, there's an outbreak and they're travelling to every RSL in Sydney.

My guess ?

The old Rissole is not what it used to be.Its now a multi mil business that only cares how much money it makes.I know they do good work for returned soldiers and their families ,but the profits are obscene.where does all the mone go?

Unless you’re showing symptoms why would you want to get tested ?
Wouldn’t you be better off staying home for a few days and waiting rather than queuing up with hundreds of people who might have the virus ?
I don’t get it !

Because you may be asymptomatic. ie you have the infection but not any obvious symptoms. You could be infecting others without realising it.

True, but with the numbers and pure statistical reality, unless you have symptoms or have been to the venues with a close contact, the chance that you have it are infinitesimally small, and by going to these test sites you could actually be impeding people that *need* to get tested.

yeah so i left. Bit worried i could be asymptomatic after going to the markets (Avalon) . Was packed and I was the only one in a mask there , that was Saturday.

I work in education so i wanted to be sure i'm safe so i can support the students ahead of term 1 2021

Back to members,they are actually not legally allowed to make profits and have to return all gross profits back ***"for the benefits or members and guests"***. Of course this definition can get stretched but there is no slush fund. Back in the 90's I was involved in a miche part of construction industry and was (arms length) involved in many RSL's, Balmain Leagues and Canterbury LEagues upgrades. In those days (prior to pokie taxes) these places were rivers of gold but they always had to find ways to spend the money, usually in those days upgrading pokies.

The SMH article and our Premier alleges the source may be aircrew from commercial airline(s) not complying with their quarantine guidelines. The system breaks down when some entitled individuals believe the law doesn't apply to them. Time for gaol.

Well it probably doesn't help when the Premier herself fails to comply with the requirement to self-isolate while awaiting test results. Also, you can't just summarily start sending people to gaol...

So why enforce any quarantine? Let's have a free for all so our rate of infection overwhelms NSW Health. Having family members putting their health and lives at risk treating Covid patients quickly cha ges your views on compliance.

Your comment was, "time for gaol". My point was, you can't just send people to gaol. You have to charge them and there is a process that probably would not result in a court sending them to goal. Many people had become lax, including the Premier as I noted. Should all of them be sent to gaol? Or just the ones who happened to cause the outbreak?

Compliance is there for a reason. If you are asking doctors, nurses, the NSW Police and ADF to potentially risk their lives, non compliance should result in a custodial sentence applied equally.

We're back in full lockdown as of today over here in Germany. They tried to introduce measures to avoid it, like masks being compulsory, bars and restaurants only being open for takeaway and compulsory masks within the city centres. It didn't really work and now our numbers are fairly high.

Where I live in Saxony we had things relatively under control until a far right group held a protest over the Covid restrictions. It was estimated there were about 35K+ People gathered in the city centre where I live to protest (not a large city by any means). None wearing masks, no social distancing. 2-3 weeks following that event the numbers in our state have skyrocketed. All retail stores are now closed as are schools which were previously operating. The stupidity of these protestors absolutely blows my mind.

It's hard to draw comparisons between Australia and my colleagues here ask me all the time how Australia has managed to control numbers. When you consider differences in population, and the proximity of nations surrounding Germany, compared to the ease of closing the borders in Aus it is difficult to compare the two.

How many deaths? Lockdowns have not been successful anywhere. Protect the elderly and the vulnerable, contact trace and get on with life.
