What the results do highlight is the increasing risk to our NSW Health staff of accepting over. 50% of returned travellers.

The disastrous news around the world only highlights the need for Vic, Qld and WA significantly increase their intakes to spread the risk and workload upon our health staff.

Absolutely. We have seen the other jurisdictions sit back and allow NSW to take the brunt of the load of returning overseas travellers. To make it worse we have to hear idiots like McGowan (WA) give us gratuitous advice on how to deal with the problem. In my opinion, with the exception of the Ruby Princess, NSW had handled COVID extremely well.

Is NSW the only state that’s allowing return travellers from overseas ?

They return here and quarantine here, then go to their state.

Thx mate ..

Nah, WA accepting overseas arrivals.

No, other states are accepting returning travellers as well. But, NSW has accepted more than 50% of returning travellers which is well above the percentage they would have accepted if all jurisdictions were pulling their weight.

If we were going to take extra numbers Gladstone was being spoke of putting people into iso

About time QLD and Vic do fair share in overseas arrivals instead of closing borders

Cut off Jobkeeper payments and watch how quickly the borders open.

And how quickly people lose their jobs.

Keeping the border closed is not sustainable.

Where did I say it was?

You didn't but I felt I needed to justify why I suggested that course of action. I don't usually like to target those less fortunate but Qld cannot sustain this hard border without the financiak assistance of NSW with its open borders.

Absolutely. I'll never forget "Qld hospita's are for Qlders".

In which case it should be when it comes to quarantining of arrivals from overseas, "NSW airports and quarantine hotels are for New South Wales Residents".

That is not feasable.

It's about as feasible as the Queensland Premier stating that Queensland Hospitals were for Queenslanders and NSW Hospitals were for NSW people.

How about as feasible that if a particular Public Brisbane Hospital had full ICU wards they would not have been to supply full O2 levels to every ICU bed at the start of the Virus

An Anaethesist my sister knew went and checked it and worked it out ......scary thought hey

Single digit case numbers and test numbers consistent with the last couple of days to be announce at 11am is the rumour.

What has happened to the people of the great State of Victoria? They seem to be cowering in fear of a 15 year old with Covid. Back your health dept and contact tracers! Back also your Govt after the Commissiondetermined no one made the decision to use private security firms in Quarantine, not that it was the real issue.

What a moronic statement. Cowering? Why does the age matter? Covid doesn't seem to ask for ID. Given what Melbourne went through with 6 months of lockdown, I can understand why they would be a little cautious of any case that may put them back in lockdown.

So much in this thread is what I read in the papers and watch on the news. States being called jurisdictions, people who live in states being called "XXX citizens" . News flash, its all Australia and we are being used as pawns for political gain. I don't want to point out a specific leader as they are all as bad as each other but please, have a thought for our fellow Aussies in Vic and have a thought for our fellow Aussies in the northern beaches of NSW at the moment.

As much as we all like to think our state is best, if any part of Australia fails, we all fail. WA mines, Victorian Ports / Dairy , NSW produce / mines , Qld...Fun parks, Beef and average beers... It all needs to work.

Tribalism is fun for footy but not so much for a national pandemic that kills people. If you like, and it makes it easier. Treat the Pandemic like a international test. You hate player X when he plays for the roosters but when he's got the green and gold you can cheer for him.

Lol...I don't think theres much left to reduce as far as WA's slice of the gst pie goes.

If you read the SMH/The Age comments from residents of Victoria it is clear there is fear of Covid. These are not articles by journalists.

We all have empathy for victims of Covid, so save your lecture. If like me, your family is directly impacted by family members risking their lives treating patients with Covid, you would be well aware of the fear witih reason that we live with.

No is not like a test match. I would not make that kind of moronic statement.

Ok, so Victorians are being too cautions but your family is on the front line treating patients and understand the full impact Covid has.

Not a lecture bud, just asking for some perspective but I see by your ramblings its a pointless task. Enjoy Xmas.

You're right in respect to the whole we need every part of the country to function. However, we should certainly lockdown clusters while small otherwise we end up with another 20,000 infections, 800 odd dead and severe statewide lockdowns and restricted travel to other states as a result. I say that as someone who lives in Sydney and doesn't want NSW going down the same path Victoria had to in order to get their outbreak under control.

100% agree, My rant was aimed more at old mate who thought there was a overaction to a potential Covid case.

I'm all for whatever will help this thing pass or till we limp into a vaccine. Lockdowns and cowering included. On the other side of this we need all of Australia to be ready to fire up for the amount of onshoring we will see with Manufacturing.

Yeah I certainly believe regional/LGA lockdowns are effective when cases are detected.

I am also 100% in agreement with onshore manufacturing returning, as I am onshore refining of fuel.

Yeah it is quite lopsided but they were obviously offset by investment economic boosts received during the mining boom. Now that has petered out they are seeing a higher return in GST revenue (which is fair, considering the next lowest state is NSW which sees 85c in every dollar returned.

But I digress. Still reckon NSW should have been compensated for the extra quarantine costs.
