My mate in Hungary has been transferred to hospital, cant breathe.

Im getting tested today (unrelated obviously)

How old is the guy?

I think early 50’s.

Hopefully he has no other health issues and is a reasonable chance of pulling through.

I wouldn’t say he is fit. He is certainly overweight but equally strong and tough. Also one of the best humans I’ve known. Might tell his story if the right opportunity comes up.

Edit: that last bit comes across as teasing or attention seeking but it’s not. He is a minor celebrity (for the best reason) in Hungary and if I tell his story he can be identified easily and his (and mine for that matter) privacy would be impinged at the worst possible time.

@hank37w you are your wife should certainly be at the front of the queue. It’s funny, I always forget that my parents are both “at risk” as they are in their 60’s, but I wouldn’t think of them as “at risk”, at least initially.

It’s easy for me to sit here and not be generally worried. However my Housemate’s dad has terminal bowel cancer, so we’ve had to be super careful. It’s tough though and I’m exhausted of it all.

If I get it? Big whoop!
It’s more the worry about who I could pass it onto. Lockdown certainly helps alleviate that concern

Your ultimate paragraph says it all and it is the reason that I keep to myself as much as reasonably possible, with my parents in their late 80's at the top of the list to protect.

It's not about me, moreso we.

Its a shame that isn't the way that everyone views these things.

Yeah, but it's a hard one for some.

I particularly understand the youth wanting to get out and about, being 55 and having a ten year old single child because I maintained that philosophy for the good majority of my life.

If I was younger and single I would also want to be out mixing and picking up. Used to like sampling travellers or international students as there was never a great commitment, so maybe it is good to be more settled as that well is pretty dry at the moment. Then again that stopped at nearly 40 and although I could pass for a decade younger, being double or so their age was getting a bit weird.

If anyone is looking for a good Corona resource, check out OutWorldInData.org

It has a shitload of graphs and tables from verified and official sources.

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

One of the countries to watch is Israel. They have vaccinated over 30% of their population.

They recently had a peak of over 2000 daily hospitalisations on 15 Jan, however since then it's been dropping.

Considering that the vaccine takes 14 days to start to kick in, it falls in line with when their vaccination program started. On 1 Jan they had vaccinated 10% of the population.

Reports are that hospitalisation rates of the older vulnerable age groups have already dropped.

The next two weeks will be very interesting indeed, as we then know if the vaccine will have enough of an affect to get us out of this. Exciting times!

487,756 more people vaccinated here in the last 24 hours.
That’s 8,378,940 people who’ve received the first does of either the Pfizer (mRNA) or Oxford (viral vector) vaccines.

Still no unusual issues reported.

I’ll check the stats tomorrow in case anything changes.

IMO a very interesting and informative discussion regarding the virus and it's possible origins, good follow on from the recent back and forth from Earl and myself. Recommend having a listen from 25:00 for all, even @Earl. Particularly around 49:00

McGowan had to come down tough even after just the one case. There's no social distancing being practised here.

Person was an Uber driver as well as hotel quarantine security guard. Also wasn't being tested daily as was the protocol. Epic fail.

It doesn't take much does it. Possibly the UK strain too

Seems like karma.has.booted that dropkick premier right in the arse

Why is he a dropkick? For trying to protect the people of his State?

Shoots his mouth off advising NSW to take WA lead... Pot shots at any opportunity... He's much like that peanut up north... Only care about themselves while crapping on about "protecting their state"
Pffft

His trash talking wasn't warranted or needed.
