My missus mum passed away in Philippines yesterday.
It's been more than 2 years since she'd seen her last.
We would've visited at least once certainly... probably twice between now and their last time together except for covid.
They won't get to the funeral.

My condolences Mark.

I am really glad you and your wife got a chance for some closure, it is a very difficult time but at least we have the technology to make these sort of things possible during the last 12 months.

I hope the opportunity to farewell her mother digitally helps your wife heal. You guys remain in my thoughts Mark.

Nothing can replace being there in person. I had to miss the funeral of my cousin in QLD last year and I can't imagine how hard it would be to miss a parent's funeral due to what is going on. Family is so important during these times and I am very glad you and your wife got that chance to connect and mourn with loved ones mate. I am sure you have been a great support to your missus and her family.

Just catching up with this thread and sorry to hear the news. Remembering that similarly to us, you had to cancel your trip over there early on in the pandemic, whilst also acknowledging the benefits of the developing digital age that allowed for a form of get together to bid farewell a loved one.

I have had the good fortune of having some wonderful Filo neighbours and they are extremely hardy folks. The family that lived across the road from were the most beautiful people and they were still dealt a terrible tragedy when their middle son killed himself in the family home. They still live there and get on with life.

I hope your partner got the closure she needed Ink.

Another story of COVID impact.

Another Hungarian mate, living in Sydney, got a call that his dad had only days to live. My mate starts organising flights to get to Hungary to see him. Took a few days to organise but he managed to get a flight out to Budapest. His dad died the day he left so he didnt get to see him first.

Anyway to the COVID related section, my mate had to sign a stat dec saying he wouldnt come back back for three months. There are 30K aussies on a list to come home. They will be grateful to have him back for Christmas. Massive strain on the family.

Yep, we had his wife and kids over for dinner...she has just started full time work, her youngest is in Y5. Her oldest in Y12, studying, holding down 2 jobs including doing his dads job to keep the family business going. No one has done anything wrong but there is a hard road ahead for everyone.

Some people are doing it extremely tough during this pandemic. I hope they manage to get through it all.

Mate good on for you reaching out, now is a time when people need to be supporting each other. It is amazing what a little act of kindness can do for someone that is struggling.

I've only be on here a short time, and we all take pot shots at each other from time to time, but when someone is having problems or has lost a friend or family member, everyone jumps in to support them.
We are really a big happy family who just love of Wests Tigers

Exactly mate, may not seem like a big deal to you but I bet it meant a lot to them. People sometimes forget how even a small act like sharing a dinner can improve other people's mental health.

Well luckily for us that is the vaccine we have the license to make here in Aus, so we better get cracking. In theory we will be nearly self sufficient with vaccines.
