Got news last night from family in Japan that our niece's grandmother in Tokyo has contracted the virus. Also told that "everyone on her 4th floor" of the aged care facility is infected.

OK, well it seems that the Wall Street Journal has investigated what some of us here were saying months ago, that the WHO investigation into Chinas reaction to the virus was a complete sham.

Amongst many unbelievable discoveries is the fact thta the WHO investigation ruled out the "lab leak hypothesis" based solely on the experience and say so of Peter Daszak, the man who received $40M from the US government to research gain of function corona virus at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) SioSec Level 4 lab. No other basis than him saying its fine, nothing to see here.

WIV literally had a public database of 16,000 viruses that they were working on and immediately after the outbreak, they took the database down and deleted it. Peter Daszak said that is fine and he didnt need to see teh database or investigate it because he knows the lab.

Unbelievable. This is a massive scandal and should be recognised as such. It should be the end of the WHO at a time that we need a strong independent medical authority more than ever.

Unsure to the claims of the virus' origin, but China's lack of transparency lends credence to the claim. Their numbers would be significantly higher across the board too.

The fact that that the supposedly independent WHO has conducted such a clearly sham investigation, destroys any future recommendations from them.

Yes, if it rests on the testimony of one bloke who didn't even appear to exhaust all avenues of investigation it should certainly discredit any conclusions made.

The testimony of one bloke who was paid $40M by the US govt to research in the lab getting investigated.

Not good news. I hope they all recover quickly.

Haven’t gotten an update today, but her condition had worsened and was hospitalised yesterday.

Gotta love the spin media put on things. All praising Victoria because they no longer have any cases. Tell the whole truth, the reason they don’t have any in hotel quarantine is that they stopped taking returning Australians, letting other states take all the risk instead.

NSW has done extremely well in that respect. Assumed a lot of the risk in taking on the other states' returned overseas travellers in some capacity for periods and still managed to keep a lid on it.

1-2 months ago global covid cases were plummeting and things looked very positive with vaccines starting to roll out. Since then it has been surging again though, with Europe undergoing a third wave, Brazil an absolute disaster (Brazil had 3,600 deaths in just the last 24 hours!) and now India surging again too.

It looks like cases are also surging in parts of Africa, especially east Africa around Kenya and Ethiopia, but it's likely that official numbers there don't reflect the true situation.

The Brazil situation is especially troubling because the variant there seems to be affecting younger people in far greater numbers than has previously been the case with covid, and possibly current vaccines are not as effective against that variant.

It really is a bugger of a pandemic to control, and we are so lucky in Australia.

We are just coming out of summer and into a period which as far more fraught with potential problems. On what scammo has delivered so far with the vaccine rollout i lack confidence in how our future lies. Our isolation is a help but not enough

It has just been announced that the rollout is 85% behind its scheduled time frame with just 600k vacinated compared to the 4 million expected(BBC website)
Undoubtedly our fraud of a PM will make some excuse which the right wing media will lovingly accept as there is zero accountability in the federal government

Remember the discussion here regarding the "lab leak hypothesis" and despite listing all of the tangible evidence here, some tried to dismiss it as "conspiracy theory"?

Here is the CDC Director during the pandaemic, with access to data and knowledge that most dont, thinks the most likely source was the WIV lab in Wuhan. Here is a video from that well known right wing extremist conspiracy source, CNN.

I think I would rather the opinion of a top Virologist who has spent most of his working life in that field than the opinion of others not qualified to form an opinion in the field of virology...

Who do you mean? Who is the top virologist you are referring to?

The guy who was CDC director and spent most of his life studying viruses...I have an opinion that it started in the lab in Wuhan, because if the Chinese thought otherwise, why would they weld people into their buildings,,,its all political, as long as they find the truth, then thats all that matters...

We are never going to find out. China will never co-operate.
