Thats a drop from yesterdays numbers.
Lets hope it starts a downward trend and stays that way.

Stopped giving numbers on how many infected in the community this is the new norm moving forward

Heard the explanation of this today. It is not “hide” the information it is simply a factor that as numbers rise, they are no longer able to provide accurate, useable information on this. This information is derived from a short interview with the person once they receive a positive result. They are not physically able to get this information within the 24hrs

Does that mean that restrictions will continue based on completely unreliable evidence?

Moving forward restrictions will be more focused on hospitalisations than cases.

A lot of mixed and confusing messaging out there.

We are in lockdown because of the current number of cases and the strain on the hospital system.

Get vaccinated, it will keep you out of hospital and stop you dying.

If everyone is vaccinated then surely hospital numbers will go down. Wouldn't any rise in hospital numbers be either unvaccinated people, or a vaccine resistant strain which would mean the vaccine percentage whatever it is is irrelevant?

I honestly think that they have no idea, are basically verbalising untested theories, which is why they are backflipping every 2 weeks.

You cannot keep people locked down while refusing to be transparent about the reasons for it.

I think it is pretty clear, at current vaccination level high case rate means we are going to overwhelm the health system. After we reach the 70-80% vaccination rates the focus on case number isn't as important as a high number of case hopefully won't translate to a high number of hospitalisations so at that point we focus on the number of hospitalisations as the trigger number for restrictions because that will be the reflection on the health system to cope and not the number of cases.

Basically we are locked down now due to the low vaccination rates and high case numbers. Once we get to 70-80% case numbers aren't as important.

As vaccination numbers rise I'm hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm hoping at the end of September they might allow gyms, pools etc to open to fully vaccinated people. I'd also love to be able to head to the mountains, or maybe hit the beach for a surf. Even theatres might open to limited numbers if patrons are vaccinated.

I think COVID safe practices will be with us for a long while but I'm OK with that if I can move around a bit. I'm not bothered at all with restricted numbers, QR codes or wearing a mask on pubic transport etc.

Cases are growing into Camden and Penrith LGAs with it highly likely they will also be included in the areas of concern.

When you have behaviour like a pizza party at a work site at Erskine Park which so far has resulted in 16 cases the situation won't turn around. If this continues we will be in lockdown in late December.

This is what I think will happen and I'm completely cool with it. I'm optimistic that this can happen as well because people are getting vaccinated.

The SMH is stating 64.1% 1st dose vaccinated. I'm so impressed by that number.

seriously guys the amount if ventilators or lack of will affect us soon
At Westmeath people are not in ICU wards they are in normal wards while in ICU
Westmead is almost on its knees
Worry about the children's hospital next

The thing is it's already under huge stress. I reckon they may have enough ventilators. They will run out of staff. I heard a doctor in Victoria stating they had heaps of ventilators but not enough staff.

This could get considerably worse as well.

There is 73 cases on ventilators, 116 in ICU. State has 2500 ICU capacity.

I have VERY elective surgery booked in for next week and they have not cancelled it.

None of this seems to correspond to your doomsday scenario?

Yes, we will have to learn with it but until vaccination rates are high we shouldn't relax restrictions. We shouldn't also be waving the stick like the NSW government and Scomo are doing - vaccination or suffer is their current policy. Not everyone can get vaccinated atm where I live because there simply aren't enough supplies. We don't have a single case because most people are doing the right thing. All they are doing with the stick is turning people off.

There are some issues here:-

1. The disinformation on the AZ vaccine. It's been a monumental mistake. We have vaccines available we just don't have the Pfizer vaccine available. The AZ vaccine is a really good vaccine.
2. I don't think there is any choice but to wave the stick at people. We can't escape the fact that unvaccinated people cost society significantly more than vaccinated people. How do you get around this ? I'm not even a fan but I cannot rationally see any other option.
3. Vaccine hesitancy is really high until you get outbreaks but by then it's too late for some people. So your comments there could lead to increased deaths and sickness that doesn't have to happen.

I agree and disagree with some of your points.
1. AZ does in fact have issues - that's why there are six permissible reasons to ask for Pfizr. Other than those reasons, it is fine for people (and yes the misinformation has been detrimental).
2. Most people don't need the stick - they want to do the right thing. The misinformation, uncertainy, and mixed messages, did not help. Scomo and other politicans should leave the message to the medical experts rather than playing politics. There are anti-vaxxers but if they choose not to get vaccinated that's there choice. I do think unvaccinated people should be excluded from some things from a safety point of view not as a punishment.
3. My comments will not lead to increased deaths and sickness - my comment smerely point out I think it is the wrong tactic. Give yourself an uppercut from me 🙂

Good post. We aren't really far off.

The AZ is a really good vaccine. I accept that is has some issues but as you state this is all part of the standard health advice.
I think the stick has to be given out. Some people are strongly pro this stance. I'm actually not and still thinking through it. I just can't get around the fact that the unvaccinated are going to cost society so much more. I was initially hopeful that this issue could be avoided but I don't think it will. In France my understanding is that they are having weekly freedom rallies because of this issue. I think our freedom fighters got caught up in this movement but I doubt they even understood the issue.
The point I'm trying to make with the comment about not getting vaccinated is that all of a sudden an outbreak occurs and then this virus rips through communities. If everyone just got vaccinated when vaccines were available we would have had a much lower impact on the health care system including deaths and illness.

You've made this point over and over - we get it!

Yep staffing is the biggest concern. My mum works at a hospital and has been forced into isolation due to a Covid patient coming to her ward. All staff from two days of care are considered close contacts and are out of action. This has happened on a few wards now .

Mate, I didnt question you or your wife, I just quoted the NSW health stats, current today.

The ? at the end of my sentence implies pretty strongly a question. I am asking. Im saying that the NSW health stats plus my very non essential elective surgery that was only booked in 4 weeks ago has not been impacted doesnt seem to gel with that report. Would you agree with that?

I thought I saw on the news that Covid Patients had a 6 hour wait in an Ambo to get into Westmead and were being re-directed to other Hospitals..

To me that makes sense in that a Covid patient would require greater intensity treatment, there are probably less dedicated ambulances and Westmead is located in the middle of the epicentre of the impacted LGA's. Many more hospitals in Sydney though.

Im not saying that Jedi is lying, Im sure his wife is telling the truth, and maybe more particularly to Westmead, but as I said, that doesnt seem to correlate to the NSW health stats or my personal experience.
