I think NRL playing on is a terrible look for the sport right now amidst shutdowns. I understand they are desperate.
I agree .... they are fools.
They are going to get a real wake up call if players get the virus or worse and take legal action Against the league for continuing against medical advice.
Very short sighted strategy.

Cruise ship off WA coast with 1700 aboard and a reported 250 with respiratory distress. No Australian passengers aboard. This potentially could overwhelm all medical facilities. When do cruise companies start to take responsibility?

AFL clubs to make redundant between 70 to 80 per cent of staff

Neighbor who works at a winery said their boss went to bank and was able to get no interest on their loans for 6 months .
Dont know the ins and outs but it is worth talking to your bank early if you need

Government teachers need to be thankful they still get paid
Nurses and doctors are in the real firing line
All the people losing jobs hang in there guys

Most mortgages have hardship clauses. Hopefully the banks don't move the goalposts with the impending wave of people looking to take advantage without (sufficient) income.

Let’s hope so, I feel for you. We all need to be here at the end to ramp everything up again.

I'm a finance broker so can give people some advice on this:

Consumers/Individuals

Mortgage/personal loan/credit card repayments are dealt with in line with NCCP laws. Essentially, if you are experiencing hardship for any reason, you can lodge an application with your bank and discuss a hardship arrangement. Given current events, you shouldn't get much push back. Some banks, such as NAB, have a blanket 6 months deferred payment plan if you need it. Others are still case by case, but I expect them to follow NAB.

You are wasting your time trying to call them. Call volumes have increased 10 fold. Either speak to your broker or try to find an email address to send your request. This will also serve as a record of the date of your request in case anything goes wrong. Search "(Bank Name) Hardship" to find contact info for that department.

Businesses

For all business lending, you are likely to get 6 months deferred payments. Depending on your loan, you are likely to be able to extend your contract by 6 months to cover the arrears.

Again, they are experiencing high volumes of enquiry, so email is best for the reasons stated above. Contact your broker if you have one and if they're good, they'll look after it for you. If they suck, you'll need to do it yourself.

If people want to know anything else about this type of thing, just let me know. Happy to help.

Thanks for the tip mate, I did go through a broker, and I refinanced with NAB when I bought my land.

One question -Do the banks pass on requests for deferral information to credit agencies? Are there safeguards to prevent this happening? Sorry that's two questions.

Dont quite get the panic over whether or not schools are open. Make your own decision and keep your kids home if you think the school should shut. My daughter will be staying home and working online. Simple. Problem solved.

My son won't be going to school and nor should any others, except for those of essential services in a social distancing environment.

The Victorian government were closing their schools down either way, but agreed to the "bringing the holidays forward" announcement, so as not to create waves.

I do not understand bringing the school holidays forward .. what I am reading once the shut down happens in full it will be for 6 months .... it seems most think it will only be a month and this seems not the case !

Agreed. I've been saying this for a month, and I don't see any plan to reverse it when the worst subsides. Worse, having had a taste of tyranny, will we get all our rights back? "Health" will now be used as an excuse to curb liberties well into the future.

IMO there is no way they totally close down for 6months. China was less than 4 weeks. Aus economy is finished in 6 months, all over red rover. Government is already spending 9% GDP on stimulus. No way such a large chunk of the population can go without income for that long.

Are you serious ? This is Australia mate . This will not happen . You can’t even get people to not go to the beach let alone get them to fall into line . The reason tyranny exists in the other countries because they usually go from tyrant to tyrant never knowing what liberty truely is . Some crap I’ve seen out there , this takes the cake . Put your tinfoil hat away

It'll make the Rum Rebellion look like a kids birthday party.

A huge concern I have at the moment is that there has been no word on temporary nationalisation of private hospitals, along with their doctors and staff. For mine that is the only way that care will be given based on need, rather than thickness of wallets.

Whilst the state's would control them as part of overall response, I don't think they have the power to compel them to cooperate, with procurement at many levels a federal responsibility.
