Coronavirus Outbreak

Just spoke to my wife who is celebrating New Year with her family in China. Not sure how wide spread this is but all the shops and services are shut in her family’s home town. Everyone is being advised to stay home. Sounds like they are taking this virus very seriously and putting appropriate actions in place.

My mate's daughter was about to play for the Matildas in China. He's VERY happy the game has been moved to Sydney.

I read they eating contaminated meats from that "Seafood market" among the things on the delicacy dining table were Wolf pups, Peacocks, Rats, Bats and a few other disgusting things that escape me. Disgusting people they seem to always be at the epicentre of the outbreaks along with people in Africa who are in poverty unlike the chinese. Me personally i am very worried about anything like this i have a 9 yr old that has a heart condition and with that comes low immunity, luckily i dont live in Sydney anymore we used to live in a suburb with a high transient Chinese population. They would spend some months in China and then some months in Australia very common among the older Chinese people.

I lived in China for 5 years. I have seen everything and I mean everything served as a dish, Koala to Komodo Dragon, Monkey to Marmot. Alive in cages like what we do in the West with lobster. The customer can walk in and choose which Koala from a cage he wants cooked up. Different cultures that 99% of people in the West have no idea what goes on in certain parts of the world.

The Chinese have a saying which very roughly translates to -
"We will eat anything with 4 legs but the kitchen table and we will eat anything that flies except an aeroplane".

How very true.

Actually that saying was a joke made by Prince Philip. Fairly true though.

Good to hear that the government and the population are taking it seriously. Hope your wife and her family manage to steer clear of it Steve.

Thanks Nelson. All good so far.

My wife and her family have struggled all their lives. Amazing story of hard work and resilience. Wonderful, caring, honest people. I fired up when they were referred to as grubs.

My wife needs to catch bullet train to get to Quanzhou for flight home so I’m hoping she’s able to do so.

Death toll is now officialy 56 in China, also of concern is it is now believed that people are contagious carriers of the virus days before showing any symptoms which would have to be a massive concern for health officials

And 46 flights from China landed in OZ today ..

Sounds like they are trying to escape China
Close the boarders

Bloody oath

100% shut the boarders down with China, but I think its already too late

They're a bunch of grubs with no concept of hygiene. Hardly a surprise a new virus was borne out of a food market.

My wife is Chinese and I find that comment offensive and totally Ill-informed. A whole culture of people grubs? Perhaps you should shake your fist and shut this thread down

Incredibly ill informed:

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/wuhan-coronavirus-chinese-wet-market-photos-2020-1?r=US&IR=T

I cant believe you have doubled down on your racist and ignorant post with this Willow. Even if you read the post which is very sensationalised, there are no photos of the supposed exotic animals at the markets, just photos of standard fare with the exception of dogs which is well known to be eaten in Asia. The article itself says that the virus is most likely to be spread via bats which can spread it in its faeces. THAT article is your justification that the entire chinese race are grubs?

There is a virus that is MUCH more deadly than this coronavirus that kills almost everytime. It is called Hendra virus, it has killed 4 Australians and is spread by bats. Are all Australians grubs?

You're not really arguing that there isn't widespread consumption of a whole host of exotic animals in China?

I don't see how it's racist to point this out. Chinese demand isn't just wiping out animals in China, it is decimating Africa's wildlife too.

Imagine the outcry from the east if westerners started eating Pandas !

Steve, like you and some others I was disgusted by Willow's comment. It was out-and-out racist. I've known a few Chinese people and found them to be fabulous people. I visited China last year and was amazed by the culture, the history and the fabulous sights. I think there's a large divide between hygiene and customs in city and rural areas but to label an entire race as grubs is just a disgraceful comment. Willow, as someone who moderates comments on this forum, you should be ashamed of yours.

Yep it’s an amazing place. My wife and her siblings live in cities whilst her parents live a subsistence life. Always amazes me watching my wife and her sister dressed immaculately, plucking a duck on its way to becoming the evening meal!! Funny to watch

Agree with you 100% Coivtny, but luckily for all of us he didnt use any disguised swearing, so he at least saved us that discomfort.

No hygiene there at all... Bloody gross and disgusting

Pretty poor for a country as advanced as China. I was in Fiji last week and their hygiene wasn’t very good, but they’re borderline third world, so you look past it. China are supposed to be one of the leaders of the world.

When I went ..I was actually quite surprised how clean the place was in terms of garbage and stuff...admittedly we only visited the tourist places in the big Cities in Bejing Hang Zhou X'ian Shang- hi etc...

Compare that to Vietnam ,Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines saw some awful stuff there

Not the slightest bit interested in going to China..Or anywhere in that region for that matter.
My local Chinese is dodgy enough and they have a fridge ( I think )

There is a billion people there. Some of their cities are the most advanced in the world and there are villages without electricity or running water. They have some of the richest people in the world and the poorest. Im sure some of these places are in the cleanest in the world and some probably the dirtiest. To generalise about a whole race of people as grubs is direct racism (not referring to you GNR)
