Remember Ebola? SARS? Bird flu? Swine flu?

Corona is a rookie compared to those guys.

Less than 1,000 people died from SARS.

Apparently that was the end of modern times.

1918 flu killed over 50 million.

Yeah aware of that, I'm pointing out that for all the media hysteria and panic, it killed less than 1,000 people. The flu season last year in Australia killed 3,000 people.

As I said to a few people over the weekend, it's almost as though the media wants to distract us from some other cluster... Wonder what that is?

On the flu itself, it's going to do some damage in a heavily populated country like China. Every year we get hit with a flu strain and people die. I'd hate for this country to be labelled as unclean as a result.

Australians....grubs

Yeah, agree. It's way overhyped and the world is better prepared than ever.

We're currently at 14 infected vs nearly 250,000 last year from flu.

At this point you're more likely to die from a falling tree branch.

Yeah the only stumbling block would be convincing the wife to do it. I love being outside my comfort zone and experiencing things that test my world view. My wife would very much struggle with (that's OK, world would be pretty boring if we were all the same.)

I listen to Jordan Shanks' podcast and he visited Turkmenistan last year or the year before and he was talking about how it was one of the most unreal experiences he has had because it challenged his Western perception of the world, for all the good and bad the country had to offer (Turkmenistan is a dictatorship.)

Death toll is now officialy 56 in China, also of concern is it is now believed that people are contagious carriers of the virus days before showing any symptoms which would have to be a massive concern for health officials

And 46 flights from China landed in OZ today ..

Sounds like they are trying to escape China

I visit a cafe that specialises in Russian and Bhutanese cuisine. They have so many photos of Vladivostok and Bhutan. Both look amazing. Bhutan especially, looks like something else.

Yeah pretty disturbing from the mods. Willow was on the other thread boasting about tasers & how he's strapped 24/7.
I'd hate to think he's a cop, seca or screw with that mentality. Disturbing like I said.

Straight on through to the keeper. But if pretend to swear in this post it will be deleted. I have seen first hand filthy Aboriginal missions and compounds in the NT. If I was to say that Aboriginals are grubs, I would be called racist. You know why? Because it would be RACIST.

edit: ensuring my intent is clear, I do not think Aboriginal people are grubs because of a single group, thats the whole point.

Right on Glenn, business as usual aye.
Difference between being racist, prejudice & generalising but fine line between all 3.

IMO its not a fine line in this case

Ever been to or seen a hoarders house.....we are grubs as well according to some people's thoughts

We have Ross River disease from breeding mosquitoes.....are we grubs

As Glenn said we still have places in our country which are basically 3rd world still ...just many refuse to acknowledge it

Ok just went back through this thread and deleted posts that offend or deemed racist...

It makes it more difficult when members quote and quote the offending quote as that also results in deletion..

If a post offends in future simply FLAG the post rather than quoting it...your concerns can be then addressed through that system...

if I missed any please flag them...thank you..

Frustration best sums up this situation and it's a situation which will continue to deteriorate and a lot of people are going to lose loved ones - that's an unfortunate fact.
