@ Tiger5150 - I just want some facts in relation to countries that have done what you have suggested. Just some facts.

Earl, it is a FACT that only ONE country had the opportunity to stop this thing in its tracks. Every other country has started from a position where they dont know how many cases are in the country, where they are, no capacity to contain it, and potential contagiants everywhere. Impossible to close borders because you at least have to let nationals home (with the virus).

It is ridiculous to discuss and compare different nations efforts to control this as it is clearly almost impossible to do so ***once the virus has already been allowed to spread and multiply for months*** to many countries.

People praising the CCP's efforts to bring it under control completely look past their decisions to actively smother this and allow it to spread in the first place.

There was only one nation with the opportunity to contain this and they put party propaganda first. Simple fact.

Does anyone have difficultly with Qantas receiving $715m from taxpayers and still have workers taking unpaid leave?

From an interview with the CEO of Qantas on the ABC this morning @pawsandclaws1, he and the rest of the directors will be working 'without pay' for x amount of time.

I'll take this as an admittance that no other country has done what you are suggesting China should have done. I think it's best to drop it there.

The facts are no country has reacted the way that you are stating China should have reacted however you have excuses for every other country excluding China.

To me that is not a tenable position to be in.

If you said all countries should have been put into lock down immediately I don't even agree with that.

Earl are you crazy? Which other country had the opportunity to do what I am suggesting China should have done? Which other country has had that opportunity? Seriously

Every other country had this opportunity. As soon as they got their first case they should have gone into lockdown. You could even go into lockdown as soon as China had it's first case.

Are you suggesting China should be assessed differently to every other country in the world ?

Earl you are missing a MASSIVE point. NO OTHER COUNTRY has had that opportunity. ONLY China and they did the opposite.

Can you not see or understand that?

Every other country did have that opportunity and no country to my knowledge have done what you are preaching. It's a really valid criticism of your position and you don't appear to have a logical response.

Every other country had this opportunity. As soon as they got their first case they should have gone into lockdown. You could even go into lockdown as soon as China had it's first case.

NO OTHER country had this opportunity because no other country had an isolated region with known cases, with no threats of contagions from outside that region.

Are you suggesting China should be assessed differently to every other country in the world ?

YES OF COURSE I AM!!!! It started there, when it was discovered it was in small numbers and there was an opportunity to contain it. No other country had that opportunity. The CCP instead arrested people, destroyed evidence and told the world it didnt exist!!!!

They were the only ones with the opportunity to stop this. THe rest of the world are dealing with their cases.

Regardless of where it may have originated, as with the Spanish flu, where the first cases were discovered gets naming rights which can last 100 years or more.

Spanish flu did not originate in Spain and from my recollection, most evidence points to it beginnings being a year or more earlier in the good old USA and brought to Europe with their army.

I never stated the Spanish flu originated in Spain. I never said the COVID-19 originated in China. As I eluded to, both have naming rights because that’s where the first cases were discovered.

Btw, I don’t think anyone can say with any certainty the origin of the Spanish flu.

A suggestion I heard @twentyforty was the Spanish flu started due to the amount of bodies of dead and decaying soldiers not being handled quickly enough or effectively enough.
Therefore its suggested the Spanish Flu started somewhere? in Europe .

Earl, please point out to me one other country that were in the situation where they had a small number of cases, all isolated in one spot with no risk of foreign contagions and ALL cases within their borders and Ill gladly agree with you.

Otherwise you are clearly either delusional (as you accused me) or a CCP apparatchik.

I seriously can not understand the debate. Its a clear cut thing. Its not racist, it isnt the Chinese people.

We've all had the opportunity to limit the spread of this in our countries and across the world. Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon told everyone it was just a cold. He was completely incompetent. Look at the situation in Europe now.

I get where you are coming from and clearly China needs to take action. I am also critical of several actions that China has taken.

Sure the CCP has done lots of things wrong and continue to do lots of things wrong but there is plenty of blame to go around. Let's all calm down, stop being irrational and think what can happen to stop these events occurring again.

This is correct, we all have the opportunity and responsibility to limit the spread. Only one country had the opportunity to stop it.

Am I reading your post correctly? You are saying that Trumps actions have caused the situation in Europe?

Singapore and Taiwan did a pretty good job of stopping it in it's tracks...

The retention of Qantas as Govt owned would avoid forcing workers to take leave, either paid or unpaid. Stunts like this are just that, nothing more. Even at this early stage, the rumblings to return former publicly owned assets to the public grow louder. Certainly the outcome for the 20,000 workers forced into unpaid leave and an uncertain future would be much better.

They've been really good. Their reactions though subjectively weren't as extreme as China's and they definitely didn't react as per the people on here stating that China should have gone into full lock down.

This is what I'm trying to get at though. We don't know how to handle these situations. Locking down a country immediately is really hard and no countries appear to do that.

I think Taiwan has had schools open for instance.

Everyone is knocking how China dealt with the issue

Every other country has the benefit of foresight ......

Again lets just find a cure asap and until the cure is found please keep all the vulnerable people in our communities safe
