My wife is a nurse. I would suggest (based on overseas reports) that her risk levels are equal to or greater than teachers.

I don’t see anyone suggesting that they stop medical or ambulance services.

The measures being rolled out are to limit exposure and the number of people infected, so we have the capacity to treat them. If anyone has massive objections to the job they are being asked to do, they can resign and open their own business, or look for a job in hospitality.

Would you like me to give you a bouquet? I have three members of my direct family at one hospital all medical professionals. I mentioned teachers because like other staff they are in the firing line. Just because I don't mention medical professionals doesn't mean I don't have the utmost respect for their work. Try not to be so insecure next time.


Nurses and doctors are just an example of critical services that require staffing. Bus drivers are exposed to potentially thousands of different people everyday.

The children of anyone working in a critical role need to be looked after and teachers are employed to educate.

If I was a teacher I would be concerned that I could pickup the illness off a student, the same way that I am worried that my kid could pick it up off a classmate or a teacher.

The only way to stop the spread is to shut everything and let people fend for themselves. Unless that is the outcome you want, then some people (including teachers) will need to put themselves at some risk.

The Germans appear to be on top of things. They are disciplined and efficient. We need to learn their approach.

Man I hope I have a job at the end of this, but I'm starting to think I won't. Doing our last day today then the boss is sending us home for the foreseeable future. He's a good bloke who wants to keep us all on, but if there's no work coming in I can't see the business staying afloat.

I work in a large pub,the owner has just spent a lot of money revamping and renovating as of today it closes indefinitely and most of us have no income because we are casual worker,he is a great person and feels for us,its about time we feel for him because he also has the pressure of bills and keeping the hotel in a condition ready to trade again when he is told...
As many have said we are going to go through a lot of pain in the next few months some more than others,I honestly think we have to abide by whatever rules are put in place,look after each other,stay safe and healthy and don't let things affect your mental state..sometimes its difficult as I know first hand,dont be ashamed to ask for help,lots are going to need it before this thing finishes its course..all I can say is God bless and hope he can hold us all in the palm of his hand to help guide us through this...stay strong brothers and sisters we are all part of an unprecedented disaster that is going to go down in the history books,if we do this right the next generations will benefit from our pain knowing we did our very best to save lives and make things easier for others..

Casuals are always first...permanent staff are coming next.

Hello World travel just made 1,300 staff redundant (65% of its workforce), and for the same reason they have made this decision i.e. their income has gone to almost zero, others will follow. It's not just travel/tourism/hospitality that is in trouble.

Many different businesses are now trading insolvent because revenues have tanked to nearly zero - it's just the obvious ones that are getting reported right now.

Ive seen NONE of this in this crisis. I actually feel bad for Australia and Aussies. Panic buying, no social distancing, not listening to advice. It everyone for themselves and its not going to end well because of it.

I thought Aussies would react better.

MyGov website was down this morning.

To get benefits, you need to physically go to Centrelink to get a Customer Number to link your MyGov account. Hopefully this is made easier to access online soon.

It's a nightmare mate. I'm confident the complaints will come through thick and fast and they'll make things easier soon.

Well actually CB yourself and others have helped me with compassion and offers of help through this forum,a wonderful band of people Iam proud to be associated with..as is in the 10 commandments "do unto others"..if I cant pass on some help as other people have to me,then there is really no hope for mankind while we go through this horrific state of affairs

I am not surprised with the situation at all, believing a partial financial collapse and a restructure of sorts was coming soon anyway. We have been living in a worsening system of ever growing credit and greed, resulting in extremely disproportionate wealth spread and many don't even know their neighbours. Why would we expect much better with policy long focused on individual collection, rather than the community collective.

Apart from the physical safety of our people, particularly the vulnerable and of course family and loved ones, I am quite relaxed about it myself. The economic part of it, I have long expected it to be extensive and ongoing, but again not fussed too much as long as those in need are looked after and hoping that there is comprehensive restructure during and at the end of it, which I reckon is long overdue.

So i’ll probably keep coming in as long as our doors stay open (which will most likely be a while to accomodate essential staff). Alternatively we may be able to take A/L. Ironic, isn’t it?? Got the missus to go through this process a few weeks ago in anticipation.

Before you all blow up! She works in hospitality and quite a valued member of staff, can complete the whole rig/set up from the computers, bedding to being a pretty face ... you get the point... and still, at a major service provider of these intangibles, looking at lay offs

Doubt it, GNR, although I do realise the significance of the job at hand for all levels of Govt. office ESPECIALLY the smaller ones. We are about to see unprecedented job losses!

Unlikely people with proper job security like yourself would be faced with full time on site.
